  1. There's always going to be a "worst team" even if all teams are forced to spend a minimum. It's not like the bottom 10 teams just won't get draft picks if they're forced to spend money on player salaries. You can definitely be a bad team that spends money. 1) probably not, 2) yes.
  2. Too many playoff spots means teams have less incentive to pay the best players top dollars. If you can squeak in to the playoffs every year as a .500 club, you might be less inclined to pay for that one piece that puts you over the top. Also, 14 teams is absurd. 12 is too many IMO, but I can deal with that if it gets everyone back to the game.
  3. Yes "awful, stupid nicknames" were definitely his thing.
  4. Are FAs who have yet to sign losing the pick attached to them? Or is that starting next offseason?
  5. Union doesn't care about MiLB players though, so they won't really care about it (maybe they'd consider it a "concession", but it wouldn't be a big one...)
  6. This should stir the pot around these parts...
  7. That's great to hear about the new facility. And that word will spread quickly, which can only be good for the Jays positioning with draftees and IFAs.
  8. You don't think the reason Amazon and Starbucks are fighting (in many cases illegally) so hard (in many cases illegally) against locations unionizing is because it will give their employees more power to bargain? They're not doing it because they think some workers are going to start slacking off...
  9. "Rule 5...is cancelled..." Is that a legit possibility? Would be a decent year for that to happen for the Jays.
  10. A massive, massive effort from corporations to crush unions. How hard corporations fight against unions should tell you exactly how good they are for workers.
  11. I've been in good unions and bad unions, but it's inarguable that the decline of unions has coincided with the ridonkulously massive income inequality crisis we face. We explored unionizing the company I work for a few years ago, but we had some (unrelated) staffing changes. I would 100% rather be in a union job than not.
  12. Hey man, Kevin Millar got away with it...
  13. Dude is obviously biased, as a union lawyer, but meh, content is content!
  14. I still have the gold cartridge version of Zelda II (and the box for it). Zelda II, however, was not a great game
  15. Surgery was in September? Honestly, wouldn't be too surprising if he was back on the mound sometime this year. The recovery time from TJS is getting shorter and shorter. Of course, with someone that far away, there's no need to rush.
  16. Yeah, not protecting Samad wasn't a great move, IMO.
  17. Nah, he'd just go out and hit an unsportsmanlike homer.
  18. Arts students aren't under contract, and can freely go to another school that makes more sense to them. Minor league baseball players have an employment contract with a specific team, so their options are "deal with it" or "quit".
  19. Anyone with a sub to The Athletic want to post this here? I'm not really a big Keith Law fan, but I'm starving for Jays content, dammit!
  20. Value against which they can borrow at very friendly rates...
  21. Consider this your one warning. This particular horse has been beaten to death and is stinking up the board.
  22. I know these words, but I have never seen them used in this order before...
  23. OutOfThePark Lockout Simulator 2022 should be dropping soon...
  24. Not particularly important, but there's a dearth of baseball news and it's tangentially Jays related...
