Just listened to the entire recording for the first time. He's not as virulent as I expected but he's such a whiny, self-pitying bitch. The whole conversation is super awkward.
  2. Did you see my edit? I added that very scenario.
  3. Yeah that was basically my point. Adding Stroman doesn't guarantee anything but where else are you going to find impact talent? Stroman might be as good as Samardzija this year and Samardzija reportedly would cost you Stroman AND Sanchez.
  4. Yeah King already corrected me on that. I'm glad he's doing well because I thought he the best internal candidate for 4th OF coming into the season. He profiles like a poor man's Reed Johnson which is pretty much what the Jays need.
  5. When you break starting pitchers into 5 equivalent tiers, the biggest gaps are between 1 and 2 and between 4 and 5 and those gaps are roughly equivalent. In other words, if you don't have a true 1 than you have to have 5 middle of the rotation pitchers just to have a roughly average rotation. This is my roundabout way of saying that the Jays really aren't in a position where they should settle for typical number 5 pitcher production. I don't know if the addition of Stroman will give the Jays an above average rotation overall but I can't see it happening otherwise. It was nice to see McGowan go deeper last night and it was pretty easy to trick yourself into thinking he was more effective than he was. I got carried away with it myself thinking that maybe McGowan had turned a corner and earned some rope but upon sober reflection, he's still very much a question mark.
  6. Well good for him if he's busting out of it because it's been awhile since he's hit.
  7. He probably has a side deal with the Orioles to get released again when Davis comes back. At least I hope, for his sake, that he does otherwise he shouldn't have agreed to this.
  8. I'll bet if they do draft Toussaint, he'll wind up going to Vanderbilt. Guys you can't sign are the new market inneficiency.
  9. The only way you can even entertain a Weeks deal is if Romero is going the other way.
  10. I like Kevin Pillar in theory. His skills profile very well for a part time role but this slump he's in looks pretty serious. It's not a your garden variety slump. He hasn't hit in nearly a year and I just think calling him up now to fill a part time role is just setting him up for more failure.
  11. "By not filling first baseman Chris Davis’ roster spot when he was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, the Orioles had the option to re-sign Pearce and add him to the active roster after he became a free agent, but before they went back to a full complement of players." I think I can reconstruct the timeline from this sentence. They released Pearce but when Chris Davis was injured, they put Davis on the DL without replacing him and took advantage of the window that allows you to bring back a player quickly if it's a DL replacement. In this case, that also involved re-signing him.
  12. The fact that they were scouring the waiver wire for the kind of Moises Sierra replacement that you could have easily obtained in the offseason is the bigger indictment.
  13. This gives some insight into what the Jays want to do with Sierra's spot. They didn't DFA him when they signed a much better defensive outfielder but (presumably) they would have released him for a better right-handed bat and continued to back up CF with Bautista.
  14. I'm really confused as to what happened here. Was he released before the Davis injury? Is that why they went from having no room for hiim to deciding they wanted him after all?
  15. He's yet to give up a homerun in the minors this year fwiw.
  16. The fact that Burns has been just dreadful so far makes Schimpf even more interesting.
  17. I don't think you should sacrifice starting depth for the sake of the bullpen. If McGowan is over his fatigue issues, that's a huge plus for the team. Stroman may simply have to wait which is a bit of a shame but it's a nice problem to have.
  18. It wasn't a great draft overall. Pitcher Braden Shipley and J.P. Crawford seem to be the names that get tossed around when discussing who the Jays could have drafted instead of Bickford. Crawford would definitely fill a big need. If there are any studs in this draft class they probably went before the Jays pick (Gray, Bryant and Meadows are some of the better candidates.)
  19. I wonder if the team thought Getz would be JACKED to face his former team? It's a very weak rationale for a roster move but it may have entered the thought process. It's an interesting coincidence anyways.
  20. Looking to move a reliever, Kelley or Benoit most likely.
  21. Picked him up in JFaS's league before he did. Pleased with myself.
  22. I remember bringing print magazines to fantasy auctions. It all seems so primitive now.

He's going to make such a killing on the sale that he'll probably wipe himself with 2.5 million. (And yes I realize this is irrelevant to your point.)
  24. Let me rephrase that. People still read print magazines?
