  1. Interesting... I'm curious to see what the Rockies do about it.
  2. Just a really weak roster. They need to stop giving roster spots to washed up guys. Ryan Dempster can't hit 90 anymore. He hasn't pitched since 2013. He shouldn't be out there embarrassing himself. Poor guy really looked crushed. He wants to compete but he just can't and he shouldn't be teased like this just because he's willing to do it. Given the loose eligibility requirement, you could probably fill the roster with hungry minor leaguers who would give you more of a chance.
  3. Looks like he's tearing up a bit.
  4. I can't find the rule so maybe I just misunderstood what they were saying in the broadcast. https://www.worldbaseballclassic.com/info/rules
  5. So if I understand correctly, the extra inning stuff doesn't count in your team run differential? I feel like that's only fair.
  6. These special extra innings rules seem really stupid to me. I don't think I want them in anything other than an All Star game.
  7. Ironically, a much much better throw than Jose's. A strike down the middle.
  8. Damn, that was a good throw.
  9. Three teams have a lot riding on this.
  10. Special extra innings rules. They get two on automatically.
  11. No tolerance for contact is pretty much par for the course.
  12. Right. It was the 8th not the 9th. Rodney's still too high on the pecking order though.
  13. Colombia ties the Dominican. If they pull off the upset, it will set up an interesting spoiler scenario for the U.S. / Canada. Also Fernando Rodney should not be the Dominican closer. He's one of their worst relievers.
  14. ... more like trolling.
  15. Either that stadium is really small or Lindor is flashing some mad power.
  16. This is an impressive Puerto Rico team.
  17. That was a good read. Man, Hosmer is a very overrated player.
  18. Christian Yelich looks like he's 15.
  19. I thought Hosmer was some kind of God at 1B. Now you tell me he's overrated on defense too?
  20. I think the no bites is because he refuses to compete for a job while not really being good enough to command one anymore.
  21. Yeah I couldn't believe that. Hosmer as defensive replacement, fine. Probably a marginal upgrade on defense but Hosmer as pinch hitter is idiotic.
  22. It's the fourth one. Japan won the first two and the Dominican took the third.
  23. It's an absolute blast. It's just frustrating to feels like it's stagnating. I wonder if the tournament would be easier to market to casuals and non-baseball fans if they flat out called it a World Cup. I mean that's clearly what is aspires to be so why not just own that ambition.
  24. In the early days of the tournament, it was assumed that over time the tournament would pick up steam and more players would participate as it became more popular but it seems instead like it's spinning it's wheels. I'm not sure what could be done to make it better. Players like Kershaw might complain about the timing but the fact is the timing is about as good as it could possibly be. It's during spring training, a time when players are risking injuries anyways but a lot of the players are still sheepish about getting injuries as if getting injured in the WBC is somehow worse than getting injured in spring training. I think the problem is largely with MLB teams. Until teams are more supportive and encouraging about it, players are going to continue to feel conflicted about participating except for those playesr, like the Dominicans, who flat out care more about their country than they do about their MLB team.
  25. I think you'd have an even harder time getting players to sacrifice part of their off-season for this. At least all their sacrificing with this format is pointless, boring spring training baseball. I bet a lot of the players prefer the competitiveness of the WBC to that.
