  1. Maybe you should start small like say a lynx: http://youtu.be/cL6Ms1IWj2g
  2. Pompey is very intriguing. He's a minor league gold glover (whatever that's worth), he's a switch hitter. He definitely has an attractive skill set but boy have the Jays been aggressive with him. For a non-elite prospect, he sure has flown through the levels. I find that a little scary. Then again Gose is kind of scary too for his own reasons. One thing I'd hate to see is all the eggs being put in the young players' basket. Jays need to bring in some veteran OFs to insulate themselves so maybe it's just as well that Pompey isn't playing.
  3. It would be dumb to just hand Pillar a job when he still has options. Imagine the depth chart if you're working from Pillar downwards? He needs to be AAA depth. Mayberry is nominally a CF but he's actually terrible out there so he's not cut out for the role either. Is there a Rajai Davis 2.0 out there and how much would such a player cost?
  4. In his interview, he talks about his hamstring and his hips and how the turf has taken its toll on him. It sound like he's no longer comfortable playing hard on the turf anymore ("I try to tell myself that I played hard on the turf, I dove on the turf"). He's become indecisive and passive defensively. All the more reason why his relationship with the Jays is done. The turf isn't going anywhere for awhile.

There's a debate to be had on the merits of spanking but bringing it up in this context just confuses the issue. Even those who condone spanking would qualify this is as way over the top. The fact that it was so extreme and that he (reportedly) gloated about it suggests that this wasn't a father reluctantly imposing discipline like he'd like us to believe but rather a case of someone taking a rather perverse pride in the abuse of a child.
  6. Given how much AA has been struggling to address the team's needs, it might be best to take advantage of the exclusive negotiation windown and Melky's apparent interest in coming back. A bird in the hand and all that... I really don't love the idea of committing to Melky a second time as opposed to just taking the pick but it's kind of a damned if you do and damned if you don't kind of a scenario.
  7. Isn't Valencia under control?

There are signs of serious sadism here that hint that despite what Peterson claims this wasn't really about parenting at all. If you are going to make a show of policing these things, you can't go half way. That's why Ray Rice blew up and this is a similar scenario. Nothing has changed between last week and this week. The rationale for bringing him back would have applied just as much then and similarly whatever reason you had to not play him last week still applies. If you're going to police personal conduct, you need some stricter guidelines in place or you just end up looking like a hypocrite.
  9. Hence the "upper hand".
  10. He's making 11 million each for 2015 and 2016. Valencia is arb eligible I think. I could see why the Jays would have preffered the smaller commitment. My preffered option would have been to acquire Headley and worry about 2015 later.
  11. He's actually garbage as a 2B but I suppose you could move Lawrie there instead.
  12. Agree with the former but the commitment to Prado only makes sense if you have a lot of money to burn and the Jays don't really seem to have that.
  13. "The new stadium will be constructed in a public/private partnership." That's code for Georgia taxpayers will be left holding the bag.
  14. I know. This is pretty crazy. I can't believe I'm going to see a stadium built in 1997 replaced.
  15. See discussion on hair loss above. He's 41 years old with hair down to his back. He is not gentically disposed to go bald (luck willing). Every 2 or three years, he has his hair shaved with the clipper set to length number one.
  16. Basically, he was hitting his popups out of the park last year and now he's popping out like a normal person.
  17. I know some pretty hardcore vegan animal rights activists who absolutely loathe PETA for just this reason. It seems like all they care about is creating a stink not actually helping the cause.
  18. I don't think the Jays themselves did anything wrong but the fact that the zoo loans out animals for this sort of thing is pretty suspect. It doesn't speak much to their credibility as a zoo. PETA isn't very credible themselves but there may be some substance to their issues. The photos are really cool but this struck me a highly suspect from the start. That being said, right or wrong, PETA should just leave the Jays out of this. The Jays didn't endorse the zoo in any way. It was a private meeting that some of the players just happened to share on social media.

The irony is that the new NFL Personal Conduct Policy was suposed to be Goodell's legacy but here we are in the middle of his second term and the thing will probably have to scrapped and re-written in the off-season because it's a mess.

Cousins is an upgrade as far as I'm concerned. I think deep down the 'skins know this which is why they didn't swing a trade with the Rams.

The word "switch" means nothing to me in this context. What are we talking about exactly?
  22. His 3B defense was also pretty brutal. Kelly Johnson is probably an upgrade.
  23. NJH's terrible week just got terribler.
  24. And so it begins... In other news, you're ignorant (not you North, that guy)
  25. Role players with options provide the most value when you take advantage of their options to expand your 25 man roster. I'd hate to see the Jays make the same mistake again this year and go with what happens to be around rather than build a solid bench.
