  1. JPR never drafted above slot. That wasn't necessarily a strategy so much as a reflection of the economic situation. That being said JPR pitched himself as someone who could be so succesful with a cost effective strategy that his budget wouldn't handicap him in any way. He changed his tune after awhile and embraced spend to win althoug he wan't financially aggressive at the draft until Paxton and it's not clear whether that was really his pick at all. He was basically a figurehead at that point.
  2. I made it pretty clear that if you don't cut him, you might be forced to keep him and that's not the end of the world. A solid return in a trade would be prefferable but a no point did I imply that it was likely to happen so I hope you had a good time going to rather extensive lengths to dismiss a point I never made. It's true that he's only a platoon bat but he's quite a good one, perhaps even exceptional. You wouldn't want a team full of Adam Linds but since he's under control and more than likely better value than any free agent that would come here, you don't just let him walk and waste the assett entirely. The thing is that you have to assemble a better bench overall. I you roster Lind, you can't have a bunch of Nolan Reimolds and Juan Francisco on your bench too. As I've argued many times, you can only have so many of these DH types. EE and Lind are pretty good assett in isolation but you need to build some defensive versatility around them for it to work out because players who only contribute on one side of the ball are not ideal and they defiitely put stress on your team in other areas.

... says an obvious troll whose handle is "immature".
  6. Agreed. You can't just let him walk for nothing. At worst you trade him and even then only if the return is good. Being "forced" to keep him is not a negative scenario.
  7. ARod is pretty f***ed. His body can't produce testosterone anymore which is why it's literally impossible for him to get off the juice. He'll struggle to ever test cleanly again. His contract is a complete write off.
  8. There was a time when Wilner came off as the smart one on Sportsnet, the one most sensible in his baseball analyst. Even if he was wrong, you could at least understand his rationale. Now he just says the most homerish thing and the rationale is whatever suits that point of view.

Well some couples are pretty intense in the way they fight. They hurl a lot of emotional abuse and things escalate. I may argue emotionally but I don't resort to personal attacks. Those things are always worse than whatever the source of the argument is in the first place and they leave deeper scars. That being said, I shouldn't be so categorical about what they should do as a couple. We should wish the best for her independantley of any caveats about whether it's in the couple or not. I don't agree that we should wish for them to work it out as a couple. The best way to work it out could very well not involve them being a couple and that should be acknowledged. The sanctity of marriage is overrated. Personal security and well being comes first. Wish her the best. Respect her decisions whatever they are and call him out as the animal that he is.

If she believes the pursuit of happiness goes through staying with a man who beats her, that's her mistake to make but I don't see why anyone should support that decision. That's not wishing the best for her.

If they have s a kid, that's all the more reason to drop his ass as far as I'm concerned. If he changes that's great but there's no reason to stand by him while he does.
  13. If the Jays brought it down to 120 AND squirreled away some money for the deadline, it would be prefferable to the current situation. If you plan out the roster well, you can build a solid team around this core for less than you're paying for it now and having a bit of a cash to deal with whatever needs emerge is better than the current "blow everything in one off season and have zero contingencies in place" approach.

  15. The throw to first seemed fine to me. The last throw was terrible and probably a case of trying too hard to fix the situation.
  16. Yeah but just having the PA data would go a long way to explain why pitchers are less durable today. A lot of it (not necessarily all of it like you say) comes down to IP being a flawed metric for the comparison in the first place. Jim Palmer's innings are not the same as the innings pitchers pitch today. To compare the two and conclude that pitchers are less durable based solely on that comparison is a logical fallacy (one that's quite common amongst old school types). That doesn't mean they might not have a point but you'd have to dig deeper to make that point. The whole thing brings up an interesting debate about strategy. Pitch to contact is pretty much pooh-poohed these days which is fine but but the consequences of that shift in strategy don't seem to be fully assimilated and they should be.

She can enable him as much as she wants, it won't change my opinion on Ray Rice. It's nothing new for people in abusive relationships to do this and it doesn't excuse anything. I don't wish them success in their relationship. No relationship is worth the abuse she took. Harbaugh and anyone else who wishes them success in their relationship can just f*** off as far as I am concerned.
  18. Do you have any data on average pitches per pa of the two eras?

Equating domestic abuse with typical youthful indiscretions is some pretty scary excuse making. Outside of men's rights movements, it's hardly normal behaviour, young or not.

Obviously he doesn't believe this since he said "For all we know". He doesn't believe or not believe. He's just speculating just like your speculating when you say "I wouldn't be surprised if this was his wife's idea". Nice reading comprehension, hypocrite.
  22. Intuitively, I would say SS since right-handers pull the ball that way.
  23. Douchey or not, I think it effectively highlights just how vague and non-specific the question was.
