  1. http://irulan18.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/king-henry-and-anne-boleyn-the-tudors-1974070-768-1024.jpg Tudoring is all fun and game in the beginning and the next thing you know it's off with your head.
  2. I was pretty annoyed that Buck's incompetence distracted from that moment.
  3. He was playing 2B due to an injury though not necessarily because he wasn't a good defensive player. The medical and scouting reports would be super important on this guy and you probably wouldn't want to pay top dollar either.
  4. Yeah his voice is fine in small doses and he has charisma which counts for something. It's also good to have someone who doesn't take himself seriously to offset the "manalyst".
  5. What kind of impact would being able to bunt for a hit really have on Gose's offensive profile? http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2012/12/10/3748738/best-bunter-all-time-career-bunt-hits-bases-empty-mlb This is the all-time leaderboard for bunt hits in a season. The first column is the number of attempts and the second is the number of hits. The percentages are times reached based on a hit and times reached based on a hit or error. So if he's absolute elite at bunting for a hit, we're talking something like 20 hits over 40 attempts. It certainly would be nice for him to do that but I'm not convinced that's really the problem. If anything, I'd say the inablility to bunt hints at what might be an overall problem with coachability. 6. If they are running with Gose, I wouldn't mind at least an upgrade on Pillar. Gose will at least provide defensive value but Pillar just doesn't bring a lot to the table and he has options anyways.
  7. I have mixed feelings about Campbell. I like his enthusiasm and I like that he doesn't act like he knows more about baseball than he does but ultimately his voice is pretty grating for someone in his job. That's a bigger problem for me than the whole rooting for other teams thing which I thought was really overblown. I have to say that I also appreciate the way he took his demotion. He seems to bring the same enthusiam for the anchor job than he did for play by play and overall, he just seems like a good guy which makes him less annoying than he might be otherwise. Rob Faulds, on the other hand, seems really bitter about losing the play by play gig. Whenever he filled in for Bobcat on PTS, he avoided talking about baseball completely which makes him look petty.
  8. I don't know about signing both but at least with another player on the market, there's a better chance of landing at least one.
  9. Jerry seems to be getting old and cantankerous and you would think he's nearing the end of his run. He's been a very harsh Bautista critic and a fierce Cito loyalist and he annoys me on both those counts. But even if I don't share his opinions, I appreciate that he's an old pro and he does have a real skill for play by play when he sticks to it.
  10. The thing with even a low end broadcaster like Rod Black if that he's still a professional broadcaster. There are a few ex jocks who are just naturally good at broadcasting. Alan Ashby was uncannily good at it for someone in his second profession but unless you have an Ashby type in the booth it's really best to have at least one person who is a trained broadcaster. At the very least they are trained to enunciate properly and know the basic ins and outs of the jobs. Buck is just not qualified. He's a colour guy and he could easily get a job doing colour any number of places. The whole reason he came back to the Jays was that they were the only ones willing to offer him a play by play gig and in hindsight, it's pretty obvious why no one else would.
  11. Jerry is a play by play guy. Like him or not, he meets the basic requirements of that job which is to describe the action correctly. Buck isn't a play by play guy. He's a colour guy. The Jays broadcast is basically two colour guys blathering on, one of which does s***** play by play on the side. That's why it just doesn't work. A lot of people liked Buck in the Jim Hughson days when he only did colour but his play by play must be objectively the worst in the majors. He's just not accurate whatsoever. Can any of his defenders name anyone who bungles more calls? He's simply not competent. I don't know how this is even up for debate.
  12. Unless the Jays are going full rebuild, the rope needs to be really short on Gose/Pillar though. Every year, the Jays waste so many at bats on scrubs that it cancels out the good players.
  13. I don't hate Gose as a reserve. That's not a waste IMO. That might actually be his ceiling. We always knew that at worst he could be a speed off the bench, defensive replacement guy. That's a good skill set for a backup CF/4th OF. It's certainly a lot more useful than Brett Wallace. The only issue with Gose is would he accept a reserve role? He's out of options so the Jays will have to find some kind of job for him. If he's not the starting CF than he will have to just deal with being a reserve or be dealt. Ideal scenario is that Pompey acts as a motivator for Gose and he finally stop underachieving and claims the starting CF that he should have already claimed by now. Even if Pompey is the more interesting player long term, the depth chart would look a lot better if Gose played like a Major League calibre starting CF. If nothing else, it would boost his trade value before the eventual commitment to Dalton. Gose has been underachieving for so long now that I'm not confident it will happen but it would be awesome if Gose took a lesson from Pompey.
  14. What the hell was that?
  15. Hey how come you no answer my pm?
  16. I need to speed up the rebuild so I'm not scrounging so much.
  17. Havok/Burrito Boyz pissed me off so much this year. Always one step ahead of me with the pickups and in spite of this he still finished in a better pick position.
  18. I think he was a pitching coach in Milwaukee first.
  19. He was assistant GM under Ash. I remember him being pretty miffed when JPR was the replacement instead of him.
  20. To think that they might have signed them for longer otherwise.
  21. So why exactly hasn't anyone posted this yet?
  22. I feel like they bring out the worst in each other. They just fall into a rut and make the same tired point over and over. I liked it when Joe Siddal was there. He didn't encourage Pat to ramble on the way Buck does.
  23. In terms of fame, Jeter is in the pantheon of Lebron James, Sydney Crosby or Peyton Manning. It doesn't really make sense that guys like Pujols, Cabrera and now Trout have played in his shadow. That is kind of irksome. Part of that is due to the tremendous opportunity Jeter had to come up with some excellent Yankees teams (to which to be fair, he was a major contributor) and part of that is that he looked so good in the spotlight. I don't hold Jeter any ill but an end to this retirement hype will be nice. It will be nice to when the spotlight shines on someone else although it's unlikely that baseball's next superstar will be as marketable as Jeter no matter the level of talent.
