  1. Can someone explain to me what signing Toritani has to do with WAR? He doesn't evan have a WAR calculation because he's not in the MLB and there's probably not enough defensive data from Japan to construct an equivalent for the NBP. Why has WARDHENKE turned this into a referendum on WAR? It's not even remotely relevant to the discussion. All we have to go on is some scouting reports and strictly offensive Japanese stats. Everyone's going on the same information here. Shouldn't the debate be on the value of the information we do have not the value of information we couldn't possibly obtain? Is it just WARDHENKE noticing that some of the people arguing for Toritani also believe in WAR and therefore he should just attack WAR for the hell of it? I really don't get it. The value of WAR isn't really relevant to this particular debate.
  2. Mid-rotation guy basically means 2-4 unless you think it should only include true #3s.
  3. Good trade for both teams. Porcelo's ground ball tendencies make him a good fit for Fenway and the Tigers OF situation was pretty fugly.
  4. It's not tampering to say you might be interested in a trade. Tampering is when you reveal your intention to sign a FA before he becomes ilegible. That could torpedoe negotiations between the player and his current team and essentially violate their exclusive negotiation window.

    f*** off.
  6. FFS. Quit wasting time. I don't understand how they could be so decisive about Lind and then waste time with this. Act while you have a taker and still have multiple options for spending the money.

Don't know much about Bernier. Is he smart on the ice and just ignorant or just plain dumm.
  8. A good return isn't essential in the Navarro deal as long as you're not taking on any financial commitments. Navarro's 2015 salary is not far off from the going rate for middle relievers.
  9. Damn, they're the same age too.
  10. A little weird that Lester is the one setting the market for free agent pitching. He's arguably the best know of the FA pitchers but you would think a smart team like the Cubs would look past that and focus on a superior pitcher like Scherzer. I wonder what they know that we don't know.
  11. Too soon to say that... If the Red Sox turn around and sign one of the big right-handers instead of Lester, that's not really good news. That's arguably worse than if they had signed the lefty.
  12. a. That's not what I said b. You can make moves without increasing payroll. You have to trim some fat and create the financial flexibility you need. To say he was forced into inactivity is just false unless you're claiming that he was instructed that any salary he saved couldn't be re-invested in the payroll which would be pretty draconian.
  13. Something like that might do him a world of good psychically
  14. I wouldn't be impressed with AA if he ignored the same red flags a second time (loss of defensive vesatility and value, age, declining bat).
  15. If Infante had played SS since 2010, he would have been intriguing as a super util guy but as it stands, a 32 year old 2B only MI coming off a career low isn't so sexy. He might bounce back but we thought that when Izturis was signed and he was the same age Infante is now.
  16. If the alternative is trading prospects to bring in Holland to close than I much prefer trading for Chapman.
  17. Reminds me of when the Jays didn't allow Farrell to interview with the BoSox. All that extra year of keeping Farrell around accomplished was straining the relationship.
  18. Maybe not three full arrows better than Kimbrel, lol.
  19. Thread title should be changed to AROLDIS.
  20. Chapman >>> any other closer
  21. Agreed. A fire should have been lit under AA. That was a deppressingly innefective off-season (and yes I realize some bad luck with voided trades played a role).

lol at Drake's street cred. This just confirms what everyone already knew.
  23. I think a new location within the Tampa Bay area would be more desirable than a move to Montreal anyways. It's probably not a bad market if they can put themselves in a position where they can actually exploit it. Their current location cuts them off from most of the population base.
  24. Yeah I'm a bit out of my depth here. I knew you could better handle this but I think my general point still holds.
