  1. Markakis is o.k. Despite being a well known player, he doesn't actually do anything particularly well but that's typically what left-fielders are, just guys. It's the last spot to fill on the defensive spectrum. A place to put a guy that's not a great fielder and can maybe hit a little. If Markakis wants to be reasonable and Melky doesn't, there' some appeal to just getting someone signed even someone as thoroughly vanilla as Markakis. Peronally, I would prefer to land someone who can slide into CF though. That would give you more options. It would be nice to have a veteran CF in the mix to go with Pompey and Pillar. If and when Dirks is healthy, you can possilby slide that veteran into center if Pompey isn't working out. You need contingencies.
  2. I agree. He chose his words poorly but he is not and has never been an eloquent guy. I'm comfortable giving him the benefit of the doubt but those who want to hate him will not be so generous.
  3. Since I didn't see it ITT, here's a link to the audio from Tim & Sid: http://www.sportsnet.ca/590/tim-and-sid/alex-anthopoulos-on-decision-to-acquire-josh-donaldson/
  4. Costs a lot less than Lind and the projection is solid.
  5. Lol. Law gets on my tits but that was well played.
  6. Is that why you didn't capitalize French? To make it more confusing?
  7. Yeah for a minute there, he had me believing we would have another Martin like press conference but then I read the article. If she has the last name French, it probably means some distant ancestor of hers spoke French. The odds that she herself speaks French are pretty slim. Most Franco-Americans were shamed out of their French generations ago. There are just pockets of it remaining, in Louisiana most prominently and a few other isolated pockets from Northern Maine through the Appalachian trail.
  8. Is this guy reliable?
  9. Look I don't love the idea of signing Callaspo but we're not the ones working phones and gauging the market. Callaspo was a 3 WAR player in his prime. If the market is really bad AND if AA has a credible reason to believe he can bounce back, the signing could work out just fine as a bridge to Travis. An added bonus is that he's a switch hitter which would help balance things out against RHP. Yeah I'd rather Jed Lowrie or something but we don't know who will or won't come to Toronto. Callaspo shouldn't be anyone's favourite target but he's not necessarily puke worthy either. My biggest issue with him is that he's a 2B only. I guy who could slide to SS would be ideal. Otherwise, Goins is the only backup SS.
  10. Callaspo is somewhat intriguing but he really shouldn't be a consideration this early in the offseason. Someone who could slide to SS and make room for Travis at 2B when the inevitable Reyes injury happens would be far more desirable than an offense only 2B who hasn't actually supplied any offense in two years.
  11. Lawrie also used to be a catcher. Either one can catch in an emergency but you wouldn't plan on using them that way. This doesn't really change the catcher situation for either team.
  12. Barreto was one of the most coveted players in the IFA market (considered by some to be THE best player in his year). The Jays had to fight to get him although he was still ultimately well worth what it cost to sign him. I agree with the sentiment above but I don't feel it's quite accurate to lump him in with guys like Graveman and Nolin.
  13. You can go all in and f*** it up (see 2 years ago). Clearly AA has learned something. He seems to be properly valuing defense for the first time.
  14. I'm surprised Melky even came up in this thread. AA acquired to of the best all around contributors in baseball. Melky should be little more than afterthought.
  15. So how long until the Toronto media turns on Brett Lawrie? Tells us what a cancer he was? Get Jerry Howarth on the line.
  16. You guys catch the quick presser AA did?
  17. Barreto is really far away and won't provide power and won't stick at ss. The team wasn't going to get Donaldson without giving up a top prospect and Barreto hurts the least of any of the good prospects. Stroman, Sanchez, Norris and Pompey are still in the fold, and Brett Lawrie was upgraded to Donaldson. That's pretty f***in' good.
  18. A.J. Burnett for one year 8.5 million seems pretty good to me.
  19. Yeah I didn't the impression from the way AA's been talking that he would wait for Melky to come back to him. If Melky wants to re-sign he needs to do it sooner rather than later. AA doesn't want to wait on people like he did in other years. There's a very good chance he addresses the OF before Melky makes up his mind.
  20. The primary reason is that the stadium wasn't built for it and renovations will have to be made to allow for it. The Argos are at most just causing a minor delay in the overall plan.
  21. There are better reasons to get grass than to appease Melky Cabrera. #tohellwithmelky
