    NBA Thread

I'll just leave this here: http://www.hitfix.com/comedy/photo-fun-drake-acting-like-a-proud-girlfriend-around-famous-nba-players
  2. Holy crap that's low. I didn't think Price would maintain his low BB rate and it turns out he did but that was twice as high. At the risk of being wrong again, I'll say he Hughes can't sustain it. Career bests happen and it's hard to imagine something that low not being a career best.
  3. You never lose money taking a profit.
  4. Except that if his demands are that high, they will just walk away and walk away pretty happy because if his demands are that high, it means they made a huge profit on the deal they had.
  5. AA must not be all that motivated to move Navarro. He must like him enough in a spare catcher and a spare bat role to not settle for a crappy return. His "shopping" of Navarro probably has a much to do with placating the player than with addressing team needs.
  6. What you call a rigid stance, some might simply call good process. Your staff can be wrong (Romero), your staff can be right (Bautista). You have to allow for both possibilities in your planning. No one is Nostrodamus.
  7. Oh I see. Yeah I guess Romero hadn't bit him in the ass yet so you're right it probably only influenced the way he handled Encarnacion and Rasmus.
  8. Can you rephrase this?
  9. Do you know who else hadn't proved his increased level of play was real and permanent? Colby f***in' Rasmus. Stop being so obtuse, AA's m.o. post Morrow/Romero is clearly to wait as long as possible with extension and minizing the risk at the possible (but not guaranteed) risk of extra cost.
  10. I think Asdrubal on a pillow contract is still a possiblity. It really depends on whether a market has developped for him and how impatient he is to sign. All the international players in the middle infield market have muddied the waters and slowed things down. In any case, Travis is an excellent fall back and AA was smart to acquire him early. It puts him in a much better position than at this time last year. I think AA would like to sign someone but they would have to come down to his price not the other way around. Travis makes that position a lot safer than it would be otherwise.
  11. I don't usually do this but put me down for .241/.299/.389 with 12 homeruns.
  12. Actually he didn't. He had less than two years of control in both cases which is a case of AA learning from the mistake of Romero and Morrow and actually you bringing it up those cases makes an important point I failed to make. The notion that the opportunity to sign a player to a team friendly deal will dissapear if you don't do it right away is a flawed notion. You never know what can happen. Instead of playing Nostradamus, there's something to be said for just taking a wait and see approach. Edwin signed his deal in the second half of the last season of control. While you shouldn't assume that something like that will happen, you shouldn't over-extend yourself on the assumption that it won't either.
  13. I just don't understand concerning yourself with that. So what if he doesn't sign a deal like that in two years. You still had him for two years at 16 million and that's a win. You take the profit, move on and let someone else worry about what he's worth by then.
  14. What do they need that would justify giving up the shortstop depth they have behind Kang?
  15. His value could also drastically decrease. I'm not a fan of taking on risk when you don't have to. I'd take the two years and wait and see. If he's really good you get two cheap years, maybe an outside chance of resigning him for more more and otherwise a Q.O opportunity. There's really not much downside to that. I don't see why you would force the issue and spend extra money that you don't really need to spend. Remember when everyone criticized the Giants for going year to year with Lincecum? That turned out to be exactly the right thing to do.
  16. Mercer still has options. There's no real emergency for them to trade him.
  17. One annoying thing about this is that the Pirates weren't really talked about as one of the teams needing a MI. This doesn't eliminate a contender from the race to sign the remaining guys. The Giants are still rumoured to be sniffing around for middle infield help. The Padres are still in it and have to be considered the front-runners for Toritani now that we know they won't land Kang. The Mets are still looking for a guy unless the Tulowitzky rumours are true in which case Colorado may want to add a veteran to their mix. Are the Yankees really content to into the season with Pirelli+Didi as their middle infield and will the Angels be content to go the spring tryout route for their 2B job? Lots of domino left to fall and knowing that the Jays don't want to make a big commitment, it seems quite likely they will wait out the market and take what's left (if anything).
  18. Nice to get resolution on this. I'm assuming he'll play SS for the Bucs. That's definitely where their need lies.
  19. Players likes to get things settled before Christmas when possible. Cabrera isn't out of the question. Jays Journal has a piece on him earlier this month: http://jaysjournal.com/2014/12/14/mlb-free-agent-profile-is-asdrubal-cabrera-a-toronto-blue-jays-target-hot-stove-rumors-free-agency/
  20. Hoping Kang goes to SD and they drop out of the running for Toritani.
  21. ffs. I left it like that for like half a second.
  22. Well if the one and only Kevin Gray says it...
  23. I didn't realize Kang was a shortstop for some reason I thought he was already a 2B. In that case, I guess he fits the Jays needs about as well as Toritani. Jays aren't looking for a starting SS just a 2B who can slide there.
