All depends where you set the threshold for decent. He should be able to muster a decent platoon split.

Not necessarily. His ego could have played a big part in the negotiation. This is a guy who just fired his agent. Presumably the new guy is merely just following marching orders and might very well negotiate incentive that the player will never reach.

So is there still activity on ProBoards? Are we still posting picks there? Once we switched to Google Docs and made that the official list, I stopped using it. I actually would prefer to go there for the roster but since I can't, it's pretty much dead to me now.

Well the rules are the rules. I now that leniency has been successfully pleaded for in the past. But if NJH wants to be a hard ass about the letter of the law, that's his perogative. I really don't see the appeal of being a hard ass but whatever floats one's boat.

I don't think we ever killed picks pre-draft before. I'm pretty sure whenever it came up, people argued against it. It does seem needlessly anal.

Well we weren't always quite so draconian about killing picks. We used to let them disolve as they came up which seemed a lot more reasonable.

From what I understand there aren't that many guys worth spending big money on either. It's probably more good luck than good planning but this sounds like it was a good draft in which to go small. -
We also should consider the starting point too. Alford's commitment to football topredoed his draft position but my impression is that he probably would have been considered a better pre-draft prospect if he had made the commitment to baseball right off the bat. D.J. Davis as an athletic 1st round talent wasn't a slouch but Alford's was probably the best pure athlete in his draft class and that reputation has made a lot of people very, very curious about what he can do now.

At 26, there's not necessarily a lot of room for growth with Pillar. Which isn't to say that late bloomers don't exist and that he might not be one but there's also a very strong likelyhood that he's peaked. If he has, you can't really complain about it. He's the kind of right-handed 4th OF type the Jays have been missing since Rajai left and he looks way better in CF than Rajai ever did. he's had to earn everything in baseball and se's carved a nice niche for himself.

Yeah we'll do the deal. If we want to be strict about the rule, Hurl can make the pick for me and then trade the player back to me for Stanek but that seems like needless hair splitting since the result will be exactly the same.

Jaysblue only told me that it would take at least a pick in the 20s. We didn't have a firm deal. I only posted here to have a chance to finalize before the bell. I'm not trying to make him look bad. He didn't welch or anything.
