  1. We can trace IP. Without giving anything away, I'll just say that it doesn't look like your theory holds. I'm pretty sure he's just your garden variety Orioles fan.
  2. Yeah FTD is the victim of absolutely terrible timing. Done in by an unexpected pre roster expansion callup. I don't think North did anything wrong here. Someone should be monitoring this. Would have been better to let the owners know earlier but I don't know when North became aware of it in the first place.
  3. It wouldn't be fair to GD if we did that. This has actually been discussed fairly extensively in the LOD thread.
  4. You can also PM a mod as North suggested. Don't bother with me for the next two weeks though. Not going to monitor this board from Peru.
  5. Nothing got reported. Unless we're in the GDT ourselves, there's really no way to know if there's an incident otherwise. I have been busy preparing for a big trip tomorrow but if posts had been reported, I would have been notified and been able to at least check.
  6. Nice reward for those who have been out of the waivers game.
  7. The comparison with Gordon is only insulting in its sheer laziness. Gordon had a very good career peaking at 4.4. fwins as a starter and 2.8 fwins as a reliever. Of course I dream of more for Stroman but Gordon is hardly bad company to be put in.
  8. Well at least they didn't give up much to get him. Oh wait...
  9. Welcome aboard!
  10. I don't really disagree with any of this criticism but I also don't really now how much I care. I guess Gibbons is about as good as I realistically expect. I know Maddon was quite in synch with his front office in TB and I wouldn't be surprised if Cash was too but the Jays don't have the kind of front office that TB has. Maybe with Shapiro, we'll be more progressive though I don't really know what the culture around managers was in Cleveland. As for Girardi isn't he the king of the micro-matchups? That's not exactly progressive.
  11. I'd start Stroman. I usually only bench guys by accident or if I am running away and hiding in the matchup.
  12. "Old school" can mean a bunch of different things though. Gibbons' brand of old school is cut from the Earl Weaver cloth which is pretty close to optimal strategy wise. Farrell on the other was a much more pro-active manager and Cito much, much less. Not saying they didn't all do stupid stuff. They all most certainly do but usually when Gibbons does something stupid is when he deviates from his modus operandi. The other two had modus operandi that were off to begin with. Cito was extremely stubbor about under-using the bullpen and bench whereas Farrell seemed obssessed with the idea of challenging the defense and would give away a lot of outs. You can make the argument that the hate for them was over the top if managers don't matter that much but don't re-write history to make your point by claiming that they were interchangeable strategically. That much is patently false.
  13. Gibbons is way more by the book than those guys were. Not sure how you could maintain otherwise.
  14. Dickey and Buehrle both have excellent pitcher's defense but I do believe that projection systems have adujsted to that in recent years and to the running game as well.
  15. This does seem like the obvious play and because rosters are expanded, you even preserve Buehrle's streak of not going on the DL. Seems like a perfect storm indeed. Where it might get delicate is if Buehrle resists the idea. You might have to settle for the short leash and piggy back.
  16. There's no point in thinking too far in advance. The question is just how to get him some work right away. You need to find him a short term opportunity because MiLB season is over. After that, you adjust with the information both health and performance related that you gather about him and about the other guys as well.
  17. That's why you have to shorten the leash.
  18. Getting Stroman into the rotation is definitely desirable but you need to make sure he's good to go. You don't want to insult anyone unnecesarily by demoting them for a pitcher whos's not ready themselves. Skipping Buehrle for health reasons and giving Stroman a spot start/audition seems like a sensible play and depending on how that goes, you could make a further decision (the health of both Buehrle and Stroman are the x-factors here). If you can't justify skipping Buehrle (seems like you could but whatever), then you could just put Stroman in long relief and keep everyone but Price on a short leash. That would surely create an opportunity for Stroman to go multiple innings.

    NHL Thread

I don't think I've ever been more out of touch hockey-wise. My parents, not huge fans by any stretch, were talking about how there's another good player now and he's with Edmonton. My wife knew about him too. I had no idea what they were talking about.
  20. Tons of people actually do but those people will likely regret it when they realize how little their loyalty means.
  21. * Miss U.S.A.
  22. More specifically, Navarro catches a lot of Buehrle starts and Buehrle is, without exageration, the best at controlling the running game.
  23. I think a lot of it had to do with not being able to exploit his reverse splits. Teams started using more left-handed hitters against him, taking away one of his strengths which was getting righties out and I think that got into his head and it just snowballed from there.
  24. Don't feel too bad. Since then he's met a new woman (Kara Lang) and they got married. Their expecting their first son shortly. All that baseball money (assuming it wasn't blown) should provide a nice nest egg.
