  1. That's a hell of an assumption at this point.
  2. In Great Expectations, it's written that AA asked the Mets who they wanted and they chose Syndergaard. There's no mention that Sanchez even came up.
  3. Yeah it's like Gibbons kind of knew he was making a mistake but did it anyways while also hedging a bit.
  4. You're not the first one to make this comparison nor are you the first to point out the key difference between the two.
  5. I think that's the general consensus. It could have cost the Jays a game but since it didn't, it might actually work out for the best by nailing the Sanchez=8th inning coffin.
  6. Yeah I agree with you there. Usually the teams have a defined "setup guy" and his role is a bit more fluid than "8th inning no matter what".
  7. That's utopic. Bullpen roles are just part of the culture now. You can't start a revolution. Some simple flexibility would suffice.
  8. Raging? You don't know East very well if you think that's him raging. He's being quite sensible and you're being argumentative with him for no good reason. The guy knows how market economics work. If I were you, I'd just wait and see how this plays out before arguing any further.
  9. Corporations are so shameless when it comes to exploiting grovelling students. A lot of them will feel pressured to do this lest other students get the c.v. edge on them.
  10. Well if there are issues with Hawkins than a further re-shuffling of the roles is in order. Give Lowe the 8th and Hendriks the 7th with Cecil as the wild card.
  11. Poorly calculated in my opinion but I don't want to keep piling on Gibbons over this. Whoever Gibbons puts in the 8th inning role now that Sanchez has failed will be an improvement. It's an ALMOST dummy proof bullpen at this point.
  12. Well if Sanchez ISN'T the 8th inning guy than why not someone whose been pitching better like Hawkins?
  13. Well he certainly should be ahead of Sanchez. Truth is there are a lot of worthy setup men right now, Lowe, Hendriks, Hawkins and Cecil. I think the best is to give Lowe the 8th and really any one of the other guys the 7th. Cecil as the top lefty, should not have a defined inning. He should come up in any late inning when left handers come up even if it's the 9th.
  14. Seeems like he was guilty of cheerleading a bit. "Wouldn't it be great if Sanchez got these guys and rebuilt his confidence?". You can't manage optimistically like that. You have to be a realist.
  15. It really didn't matter in 1992 because Cito didn't play lefty-righty matchups at all. He believed in set roles as much or more than Gibbons does.
  16. That's fine but at this point there really isn't a long haul anymore. It's September. I would like to think (hope) that if the game were closer last night, he would have went to Cecil right away because that was obviously the better matchup in terms of strikeout ability, batter-handedness and overall performance of the respective pitchers.
  17. At least he was cognisent that he was taking a chance by putting in Sanchez but at some point, he has to stop "giving people chances" and just manage strategically. I know relievers prefer to have defined roles but he's taking it way too far.
  18. Not sure if this is anything really new. Estrada was known to have an elite change. Is it really better this year? That's less than certain. If we're going to attribute Estrada's babip suppression to the movement on his fastball and changeup than they have to be compared against previous seasons when he wasn't able to suppress babip to see if there's an improvement. Furthermore, you'd have to look at the general relationship between vertical movement and babip to see if that's even a thing. This article raises more questions than it answers but they are good question worth investigating. Someone like North could do a good follow-up on this.
  19. Apparently her name is Cybill.
  20. Yeah seems like some good players moved. I only checked the waiver wire once during my whole trip and all I got out of it was Wada.
  21. Looks like I missed a lot of excitement.
  22. I doubt he's ever been squeezed that badly either. The guy has elite plate discipline. It's highly unusual (fishy) for all the calls to go against him like that. He kept his composure through all that for a really long time but nobody can blame him for finally saying something (and making it worth his while when he finally decides to confront the ump).
  23. CalRip has been banned (not by me or Hurl).
  24. Well this isn't Criminal Minds or something. There's a limit to what I can investigate and I don't think mods should be giving away IP information anyways. I may have already said more than I should. What I would recommend is just treating him like what he professes to be. An Orioles fan egging us on. That's what the evidence I have suggests. It's not really all that useful to reach for conspiracies beyond that. Edit: Well so much for being coy. Hurl just spilled the beans.
