I feel like these awards should reward the most noteworthy seasons. We have so many better ways of determining value now than a writer's vote so I really care less than ever about the statistical argument. I feel like the award should reward good narrative because that's really the only thing it can do that stats can't do better. Keuchel's breakout is the most noteworthy pitching performance of the season. I don't care if technically there are better pitcher. Keuchel's beakout is the story. That's what I want recorded by the award. I can always check the stats for a different perspective.
Except that it's not "the best pitcher" award. It's the "best pitcher in 2015" award. If you had the best season, you had the best season. You shouldn't be penalized just because someone else is the "true talent" best pitcher. That's bogus.
Yes I think it does. The wild-card playoff is punishment enough. It's not necessary for them to give up home field advantage to inferior teams as well though I could see it why they do it the way they do it just to simplify scheduling.
If the MLB cared anything about fairness, they would have a balanced schedule. All they care about is finding the right angles to drum up fan interest.
Man surprised by all the Barry Davis hate. I thought Zaun or Wilner would lead this poll. I'm not saying I like Barry Davis but tbh his presence barely registers for me. I don't think I even knew his name until recently. He was just the fairly anonymous guy who does interviews.
I'd like Martin to transition to catching pretty much everybody by the playoffs but I suppose the Yankees series isn't necesarilly the best time for changes. This screams of superstition more than good managing though. Is there really any evidence that Navarro calls a better game than Martin?
