  1. In Stewart's world, Tomas is worth nearly 70 million but Swanson is a throw in. He hasn't been confused since that time he picked up a hooker with a penis.
  2. I was thinking of Pastornicky actually but same idea.
  3. Maybe but having one decent shortstop prospect doesn't guarantee squat. It would be foolish to bank on that. If there's an opportunity to put some eggs in another basket on the cheap, it behooves you to pounce on that. If the cost on Swanson was higher, I could see preferring to ride Mateo than give up assetts for another SS but Swanson was treated like a throw in.
  4. Yankees are probably kicking themselves for not getting in on that Darby Swanson action. It's going to be a long parade of stiffs before they find their next franchise shortstop. Castro is not the answer.
  5. Boy does Donaldson love gladiators and barbarians type stuff. Spartacus, Vikings, Thor. I bet his favourite movie is Gladiator.
  6. Intrepid, lol
  7. I'm confused by what you just posted.
  8. Or? Or? Don't you mean AND has value on the contract because he's definitely an upgrade over Revere/Saunders/Pompey.
  9. Teams overpay for #1 pitching. It's just one of those irrational market things. Has no bearing on Heyward.
  10. Maddon barely makes the top 10? TIME TO BREAK STUFF!!!
  11. They seem really keen to spend money this year. Sudden, unexplained change in m.o.
  12. The sentiment of most of the fan base. It's a travesty that Bautista didn't make the Franchise Four but he simply wasn't all that popular at the time despite being easily the most productive offensive player in Jays history.
  13. Older players accept shorter contracts so the amount of risk you take isn't necessarily any greater than with younger players. It all depends on the terms really. The Jays aren't necessarily in a bad position here. The opportunity to sign core pieces to shorter terms doesn't come along very often but EE and JB are the rare players that have the kind of bats that can carry them even when they lose nearly all defensive value. Given that the Jays probably don't want to make any big long term deals, these players might arguably be the ideal ones with which to have an exclusive negotiation window. Another thing that works to the Jays favour is that the two bats are eerily similar. Even if they might have a slight preference for Jose, they'll probably be very content with either one. Assuming that they sign one but not both, they'd probably look to make up some of the lost value by bringing in someone who will contribute more to run prevention.
  14. Well I would think that at the very least, it's extremely threatening.
  15. Too late... He's banned.
  16. Not going to happen. We're not Snopes. As long as people provide their sources, it's fine. Typically the board does a good job of discussing the validity of any source faster than any one mod could.
  17. Well anyone can make sense at the right amount. At worst it puts you in a position to trade from a surplus but what would possibly make us believe that a contract at this point would be good? The Boras m.o. is to drag things out as long as possible to get your price. To think he would just give the Jays a positive value contract in December just seems like fabulation.
  18. No it's not. Would have to be a massive overpayment.
  19. Davis and the Jays only make sense if he's still on the market in February and looking for a pillow contract. Doesn't make sense at this moment at all.
  20. Another dude I've never heard of.
  21. I really can't see the Jays bringing in another 1B/DH type anyways. Even if they have that kind of money to sign, you have to figure they'd spend it somewhere else.
  22. Yeah I agree with all this. I don't love the Chavez trade in isolation but there's still a chance that they can find a cheap replacement for Hendriks which would balance out the overpayment for Chavez. If they gambled that it would be easier to find a Hendriks replacement then a guy like Chavez, I can't really fault that logic.
  23. Who is Howard Berger?
  24. There's that and the fact that good relievers are signing for huge amounts. Hendriks could have been a steal on his contract. All he needed was some trust from the manager.
