  1. The ending's a bit disappointing.
  2. Because obviously you would trade from your rotation to clear salary for Bruce.
  3. At this rate, 52 will be easy to make.
  4. King's not dumb just sarcastic.
  5. There's that and also that the payroll could move a lot between now and then depending on how successful the team is this year.
  6. Pretty mediocre.
  7. The other option is that what happens in 2016 could dramatically change payroll. They might not have enough money to meet demands now but might be able to throw their hat in the free agent ring down the road.
  8. Can't really look that far ahead until we know how he performs in 2016. No one would trigger that option if the decision had to be made today.
  9. I would assume the Reds are covering the difference in salary or close to it.
  10. Yeah the handsomeness per game is off the chart but the counting stats just won't be there in the end.
  11. Still not as handsome as... http://seattlesportscentral.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/saunders.jpg
  12. Well you still have Pompey anyways and they'll find at-bats for him.
  13. Bruce is practically a lock for 140 games so he should keep at-bats away from the Junior Lakes of the world but other than that and the fact that he used to be good, there's not a lot to like. Presumably the Reds are covering the difference in salary between him and Saunders. I guess 140 games or so of Bruce is better than whatever wishful thinking projects for Saunders. It might be an effective move to bolster the outfield depth but it's not terribly exciting.
  14. If the Angels offered a minor leaguer and no money to the Reds than I guess that's SOMETHING but only by the slimmest of margins.
  15. Why did the Jays even bring back Saunders if they have this little faith in him? Does this have something to do with Atkins not being in place when the decision to offer him arb was made? I'm perplexed by all of this.
  16. Oh come on, this isn't about picking and choosing which deals did and which didn't work out. It's about an entire off-season plan that was completely bonkers. The team wasn't that good and it was foolhardy to push in so many chips especially when after all that there were still unaddressed holes like 2B.
  17. Pretty much everything wrong with the team can be traced back to the disastrous 2012-2013. So much payroll flexibility, so much prospect capital and some actually good controllable assets all flushed down the toilet for a playoff run that didn't even happen. The moves made after that were pretty smart in terms of trying to at least get to the playoffs before s*** hit the fan. No one want's to undo Donaldson, Tulowitzky, Martin but if you could get back Yan Gomes, Noah Syndergard, Anthony Desclafani and get back all the money wasted on Reyes, Johnson, Dickey, you would do that in a heartbeat.
  18. Pedro Martinez was tiny as f*** and had one of the best careers ever. There probably isn't a pattern.
  19. Do aging curves from past years still hold validity? Aren't they completely different now than what they were a generation ago? I really wonder what kind of value there is in this thought exercise. Makes for an interesting read but I think knowing that players age differently now, I would base my projections on what the curve generally looks like now and ignore the historical data.
  20. I don't think it's black and white. I like the deal but it's quite unfortunate that the Martin contract could have been avoided altogether if AA hadn't traded away every young catcher not name Arencibia. Gomes/D'Arnaud and all that money to spend elsewhere would be pretty nice. In any case, the team would definitely have an easier time signing Bautista or EE if Martin wasn't on the books but at least with Martin, there was a playoff run. I'd rather win with Bautista than have him longer.

  22. And Damon just missing the cut at 118.
  23. Yeah he has experience changing his swing so that's a positive and he's coming off a bad season which makes you happy that he's exploring ways to bounce back but I don't really care about the specifics. I'm in favour of whatever works whether it's this or the next thing.
