  1. Yeah just because you're doing everything you can to fight aging doesn't mean aging isn't happening.
  2. Fourty homeruns at age 40 has literally never been done.
  3. There isn't really anything controversial going on on Bautista's Twitter: All his most controversial statements have been made through traditional media. Edit: His Twitter does reads like it was written by a 14 year old but it's not exactly controversial.
  4. http://www.avsforum.com/photopost/data/2321918/3/37/37cb3625_87990d1388593781-print-glock-42-380-nooooo.jpeg
  5. He'll probably end up settling for something that the Blue Jays could have given him but by then it will be too late.
  6. Yeah Delgado was awesome and he didn't really create much lingering bitterness despite how poorly things went down. Bautista on the other hand seems to be preparing his heel turn.
  7. Well at least in this case, you can safely assume the team would q.o. him. With Delgado it was really a double whammy because the team was too afraid he would accept the offer and he left for literally nothing.
  8. When I think of playing time clauses on aging players, I think of the Frank Thomas fiasco. Dude was hitting poorly and the team wanted to transition him into a platoon role. Dude had a fit because he felt the team was trying to weasel out of an option that was going to trigger if he got a certain amount of playing time (which the team probably WAS trying to weasel out of but not unjustifiably so). If Bautista's production declines and the teams starts feeling pressure to bench him more and he starts to think the team is being cheap... Yuck, don't want to go there.
  9. IIRC, those kind clauses are a violation of the CBA. You can do playing time clauses and clauses for all star games and award voting but not for measured on field performance.
  10. Part of me is almost grateful to Jose for really simplifying any decisions concerning him.
  11. No, the most likely source is Rick Westhead's ass. What the real reporters are reporting now is that he got the AAV wrong and the length wrong so what did he do exactly except take a stab in the dark and come sort of close, maybe?
  12. Or looking at it differently... Fangraphs has Bautista's 2015 as worth 35.6 millions. Steamer projects him to slightly decline in 2016 from 4.5 WAR to 3.7 War. My back of the napkin math has that at about 29 millions. The idea that we should be paying Jose about what he's worth now for 5 more seasons after next is ludicrous. It would really have to be closer to 20 million or at least 25. That way there's at least a fighting chance of getting SOME additional value at the front of the contract to make up for the bath you're likely to take at the end.
  13. Thought exercise... What kind of numbers would Bautista have to put up to provide 30 million dollars of value? There's no value on defense so we're looking at 30 million in offense alone, even a little more to make up for declining defense.
  14. I find he looks very stylish while also looking very nerdy, giving him a rare kind of geek chic.
  15. Yeah they probably just went over this before offering him arb and shared that with the Angels. You don't just make an offer for a guy like Saunders without asking a question or two about his health. They wouldn't trade for a player like that in the first place if they weren't comfortable with a bit of risk.
  16. Can't speak for NJH, but I could believe that but just because something is plausible doesn't mean it's true. It's certainly not true just because this guy says so. Though if it does turn out Bautista's demands really are that high, it would certainly simplify the decision making process for this org. Put an x on Bautista, find out what EE wants and if it's reasonable try to negotiate something palatable with him. If not well there's not much you can do if both players are looking to hold the org hostage with astronomical contract demands.
  17. Don't know if GP researched this or just thought of it out of the blue but it's a damn solid comparison.
  18. His m.o. seems to be reporting things that are unlikely to be confirmed one way or the other.
  19. Nice knowing you Jose! Try to win a World Series MVP on you way out plz.
  20. Pick or no pick, I wouldn't spend more on Gallardo than Happ. Maybe that's just me.
  21. That's putting it kindly.
  22. That's definitely the best case scenario. The team badly needs some young controllable talent.
  23. Antonetti was the GM if that matters and Giambi was making like league minimum anyways. Good on the poster for even remembering that non-story.
  24. We don't really know who broke it though. It came through Rosenthal who is a national guy not a beat writer. Could have come from any of the three teams involved.
  25. Calling him Shatkins says all you need to say about how much you respect him.
