  1. I remember how excited people were when they heard that Buck was coming back to do Jays games. The catch was that he only agreed to it if he could do play by play and it turns out he's quite bad at it. Dan pushing him back into the colour role is a win before you even start counting Dan's own contribution.
  2. FFS. Isn't there a comish who isn't on full time infant duty who could have dealt with this? I thought this league was mostly pathetic lonely men. Whatever it's done now. I'm sending poopy diapers to all the other comishes.
  3. The difference between the Carter homerun and the Bautista homerun for me is how cathartic the Bautista homerun felt. I'm sure Phillies fan felt a lot of tension in that moment but as a Jays fan, you weren't really expecting to win that game and we're o.k. with Guzman (IIRC) going in the next one. The Carter homerun was almost anticlimatic. Like holy s***, suddenly it's over and the Jays have already won and you barely had time to process it because it was such a sudden momentum shift.
  4. Fletcher was fun when he did broadcasts for The Score. I'm surprised it didn't lead to more gigs. He wasn't trying to impress anyone with tons of knowledge, he was just naturally engaging and easy going. I also loved him as a player in his Expos and Jays days.
  5. Which should remind us that Pentecost is more project than prospect at this point.
  6. Yeah I really should have taken a closer look at him.
  7. Would be nice to see Gomes turn it around offensively.
  8. Well he is on the 40...
  9. Thanks for the summary, King. Great to have you back. I seem to recall that Tellez is dealing with a cancer in his family (mother?). Maybe that's thrown off his focus. I was a fan before this season so I'm tempted to give him a mulligan.
  10. I'm not sure the FO sees Upton as a mistake. When they made the trade, they didn't know that he wouldn't hold up physically. The assett depraciated due to health concerns. It happens. I'll give them credit for not chasing a sunk cost but that doesn't mean they had the wrong idea. A healthy Upton could have been useful and would have been given a job.
  11. Seems like everyone wants to keep Pearce and move Morales but it seems way more plausible that you could get a decent return on Pearce so why not move him and cross your fingers that faith in Morales (like faith in Smoak) will be rewarded down the line.
  12. The Cubs were willing to move Candelario for a reliever. The Astros gave up Teoscar for Liriano and cash and they seem to seem him as a reliever. By those standards the return for Smith is pretty light on paper. Seems like Shatkins wanted to accomodate the player and also use inside knowledge of the Indians system to target potentially undervalued players.
  13. The O's did well. They control Beckham next year for if and when they decline the J.J. Hardy option. Of course, they could have had Machado playing shortstop this whole time but that's a different story.
  14. His family situation will factor. Staying in Cleveland would probably be his first choice. Then again if the situation improves maybe he rewards the Jays in 2018 for doing him a solid in 2017.
  15. It's too bad Pearce is no longer considered a 2b option. That would really simplify things as far as creating room in the of.
  16. You think the Jays are paying all the remaining salary on both players? I would think only covering the difference would be sufficient.
  17. So presumably the Jays are covering the difference in salary and getting rewarded with the minor leaguer because of that?
  18. If there was a MI you could control for 2018, that would be a no brainer. They need one for 2018 just as much or more as they need one now. With Tulo and Travis being who they are, you have to manage that MI as a three headed monster. I think you could justifiably critize Shatkins for not looking after it before the season started. If they had, maybe they could have let Travis rehab longer and had him come back at full strength rather than have him waste as many ABs as he did at the start of the season.
  19. You have orgfiller on ignore?
  20. Journeyman gonna journey I guess.
  21. I haven't been watching much lately (not at all really). I hadn't realized how bad Belliveau had been. Not that long ago it seemed like they might have something in him. Not a lot is going right.
  22. I woudn't include Bautista. Do you really want to accept his option in order to find out if he can bounce back? I think you have to consider him gone in which case it's a moot point whether he does or doesn't.
