What is Goins projected to make in arb? That should be the real deciding factor. On the surface, there's nothing egregious about a defense first backup on the 25 man roster if he's not making too much. We shouldn't let Gruber's pro Goins passion push us into correlating irrational hatred. The sky won't fall because of Ryan Goins.

I think there's a pretty favorable precedent in how Gary Carter was handled. He played the bulk of his career in Canada but enjoyed a greater spotlight and won a World Series with the Mets. The Hall still opted to put him in as an Expo. I would expect Halladay to be treated similarly. -
The lack of recognition outside baseball for Trout is an embarrassment. It's true that he's a pretty generic looking guy who plays on a s***** unpopular team that plays the majority of it's game too late for the Eastern audience, especially the young audience but none of that justifies his relative obscurity. He has some good sponsorship deals. It's a shame that neither Subway or Nike has built a strong marketing campaign around him because that would probably have more impact than anything MLB does. I wish he were with Gatorade because if he were they could relaunch the "If I could be like Mike" campaign with Trout instead of Jordan like in this fan video.

1. The Elliott story was refuted by the Blue Jays. 2. The players DO NOT choose their cap. The rules were changed after Dave Winfield accepted cash from the Padres to wear their cap on his plaque.
