  1. He still responds to my pm but it takes him a while. Also, there are two users with that name, one with spaces and one without. I've occasionally sent pms to the wrong one.
  2. I can't see him accepting much less than that but after the season he had and the market he faced last year, he has to know that he can't fetch much more than that either.
  3. Yeah if you have a DH spot to work with, it's a good gamble. If you mostly keep him off the field, maybe he holds up better physically and gives a team a dead cat bounce.
  4. I never said that. I hate that people do that but it's not a fight I'm going to win.
  5. I hope they sign him. Would avoid the awkwardness of the the Jays continuing to ignore him if he's still sitting there unsigned on January 18.
  6. Are you trolling? What does "finish what his dad tried to do" even mean? Edit: I suppose you mean win a World Series in Toronto but you're really, really getting ahead of yourself here. We have no idea what kind of prospect this kid is and how serious he is about baseball. All we know is that he's a young person whose been dealt a cruel blow. Speculating about his future baseball career really seems out of place at the moment.
  7. IIRC, Vizquel directly cost the team Luis Valbuena.
  8. To be fair, it is a water plane and it's supposed to fly close to the water. Seems like he was coming down too fast but we can't fully exclude that there were mechanical deficiencies that played into this. Wich isn't to say that he wasn't taking big risks. It's an inherently risky hobby in the first place, a risk that was compounded by other factors like experience, desire to push the plane, the track record of the plane itself, etc.
  9. This has already been discussed a fair bit on the board previoulsy but I'll say it again, you can very safely expose Tellez. Typically there are two kind of players that get taken in the rule 5. Pitchers that you can bury at the back of your bullpen and developing offensive player that you can use on your bench. Bat only players like Tellez who just take up room on the bench almost never get selected. Bat only players coming off a sub 300 wOBA season definitely do not get selected. If you expose Tellez, you'll get to see what Tellez can do with the family stuff behind him in the minor league system for the Jays not on some other team's active roster.
  10. There's definitely an organization that would give Greene a shot as a reliever. Perhaps that organization should be the Jays. I would at the very least, add him to the 40.
  11. Nor is there any law that says you can't call an ******* an ******* when he's being an *******. FFS.
  12. Occasionally sluggish though perfectly fine for me today.
  13. Between Smoak, Pearce and Morales, all the spots where you can bury a pylon are accounted for so I don't really get why the Jays would even be targeting Bruce. I mean sure you could works some platoons in there but filling your bench with defensively limited platoon players is a terrible way to build your bench. I get that the FO liked Bruce at one point but presumably that was because they saw the potential for a bounce back season. To their credit, they were right about that breakout but now that it has happened and that he wants to be paid accordingly, pass, pass, pass.
  14. I can see that but it seems a bit draconian. I mean Roy's personal experience is pretty unique. There isn't a "Roy Halladay but more coporate" waiting in the wing for you like they're might in other positions. It seems like they could have found a way to tap into Roy Halladay's value as a role model to young pitchers but if they ultimately felt he would be a better fit in an organization like the Phillies, I guess you have to respect the honesty in that even if it's off putting.
  15. This seems like a Bautista scenario where he's basically pricing himself out of the market.
  16. I like that the new Front Office isn't tied to the past and isn't afraid to make changes and bring in people who don't have historic ties to the Jays and is willing to let people go that do if they don't fit with the plan but that Halladay thing is just bizzare. There's no bigger authority in baseball on high performance than Roy Halladay. None. I'm sure that they had their reasons but that seems pretty foolish on the surface.
  17. Idiot is putting it mildly. What an *******. What's the point in criticizing someone when they've already played the ultimate price for their mistake? That's f***ed up.
  18. Holly crap. That's hard to watch. Brandy talking about how she fought him hard about flying. My heart breaks for her. That hit me harder than the initial news did.
  19. They usually contact immediate family before announcing something like this. Delays in that process could happen whether it's Roy or not.
  20. I think this is way more likely than Tellez being picked. That being said, Pentecost may just have to be a necessary sacrifice unless a trade clears up the logjam of catchers.
  21. Or they must just see if they can sneak Guerrieri through themselves. Worth a shot if you have an open spot to use. I woudn't assume they have definitive plans to keep him. They play the waiver roulette every year.

    NBA Thread

I'm sure every fanbase in the NBA thinks they get the worst calls but f*** me if the Raptors don't actually get the worst calls.
  23. I'm 99% sure we kept the same order through the draft. Even though what BTS suggests is sensible, I'm pretty sure that would require amending the rules and it wouldn't really be fair to those who won the lottery to change it now. I would recommend we do it that way starting next year.
  24. Jose Ramirez is a MVP candidate? http://insidestl.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/WhaHappened-1.jpg
  25. It's very rare for 1B only player to be taken in the rule 5. No one's going to give him a starting job and he's next to useless as anything other than a NL pinch hitting specialist. It's just so much easier to stash an athletic player who can at least put in some defensive duty or a pitcher that can fill the back of the bullpen. I think you can pretty safely expose him. Besides which, it's not like last year where there was a chance he could usurp Smoak. Smoak is as settled as can be now and Rowdy is further away so in the unlikely case that you lose him, it wouldn't be that big of a blow.
