  1. Lineup looks set: Reyes, SS Saunders, LF Bautista, RF Encarnacion, 1B Donaldson, 3B Martin, C Smoak, DH Goins, 2B Pompey, CF
  2. If Smoak is our DH, I don't think it'll be in a platoon. Our bench is very right handed heavy, as is our lineup, and I think that tells me that the plan is to have Pompey and Goins as our everyday CF and 2B.
  3. This is a tough choice. Part of me thinks he might be best suited coming out if the pen, he seems to have more consistency throwing strikes in that role. I know the ideal is he becomes an ACE starter, but there's also a chance he never ends up more than a Brandon Morrow. I do know if he doesn't start in our bullpen, our bullpen is in desperate need for another late inning guy, that's for sure.
  4. It's early in the offseason bud. Guys can continue to be flipped and moved.
  5. I'd be fine with this. Navarro for Fowler?
  6. I'll go with Markakis. Melky is more of a risk, the PEDs, the injuries, I feel like there is a greater chance he stinks it up over the course of a contract. Markakis I think will be what you expect him to be. Solid/good average, good OBP, good K/BB ratio, and solid D. Whereas if Melky struggles to hit, he becomes a giant blackhole.
  7. I'm fine with rolling the dice with in-org options at 2B and CF, considering the solid presence of veterans and a good prospect at both spots. LF and DH need to be addressed though. As does the backend of our pen. A top end starter would be a major luxury too.
  8. I'm fine with Goins or a pleasant surprise Devon Travis at 2B. as long as we upgrade LF, DH, and the bullpen. A stud pitcher would be nice too, but that can't be counted on. Perhaps a mid-season trade for a pitcher is more realistic if we are within striking distance.
  9. I think in an ideal world, Martin is hitting 6th or 7th. If we could sign Markakis and had a decent option at DH, I'd look to do something like this: 1. Jose Reyes, SS 2. Nick Markakis, LF 3. Jose Bautista, RF 4. Edwin Encarnacion, 1B 5. Josh Donaldson, 3B 6. Designated Hitter 7. Russell Martin, C 8. Travis/Izturis/Goins, 2B 9. Dalton Pompey, CF
  10. Trading Lind was so silly. He and Valencia are the perfect DH platoon. Combined they equal an elite bat. Both provide depth on the corner infield. 1. Jose Reyes, SS 2. (Markakis?), LF 3. Jose Bautista, RF 4. Edwin Encarnacion, 1B 5. Josh Donaldson, 3B 6. Lind/Valencia, DH 7. Russell Martin, C 8. Travis/Izturis, 2B 9. Dalton Pompey, CF Bench Valencia/Lind, CIF Ryan Goins, MIF Josh Thole, C Kevin Pillar, OF
  11. So opening day... or a one game wc playoff... let's say against a righty.... who's batting DH? Smoak?
  12. I think those funds could be better allocated elsewhere. I'd look to go cheap in LF and sign Rasmus, and try and make a run for James Shields or Lester (pipedream).
  13. I'd much rather give Rasmus a 1 year, 7 million offer than Cabrera 50 million. Rasmus gives better D and insurance for Pompey too.
  14. Lester Janssen Rasmus Navarro traded for a DH.
  15. I wouldn't mind bringing Rasmus back to play LF. Should be cheap, and could platoon with Pillar and backup Pompey in CF.
  16. You don't think Votto would create a MASSIVE buzz? Martin's a nice player, but he doesn't have the appeal to the casual fans that a Votto would, that's pretty clear. -The 5 year policy is only with FAs, no? -He could shift to DH, he and Edwin could pretty much rotate between the DH/1B spots.
  17. He an outlier of a season BABIP wise. He could very well bounce back, and big power hitters tend to age better (see Big Papi). As for the rest of the offseason, I'm fine rolling the dice on Pompey and Travis in CF and 2B respectively, with a backup plan obv, but I'd only be content with that if LF and 1B/DH is addressed.
  18. I know this is nuts, but I was chatting with some Reds fans yesterday and they mentioned how they believe the Reds would be looking to unload Vottos salary so they can re-up Cueto and Latos. Apparently they wouldn't even be expecting much in return (because of the insanity of the contract). But wouldn't Votto be an interesting option here? I think Rogers and attendence and viewership would increase big time with the addition of an MVP hometown boy. So much so that it could help offset the contract. Obviously it would be a massive risk, but adding Votto would give us a ridiculous midd of the order. I know he had a rough season last year, but he could very well bounce back and this could be an excellent buy low opportunity. What would you give up for Votto? Considering the contract it might not take much.
  19. 1. Jose Reyes, SS 2. Russell Martin, C 3. Jose Bautista, RF 4. Edwin Encarnacion, 1B 5. Josh Donaldson, 3B 6. LH DH/Valencia 7. Left Fielder 8. Second Base 9. Dalton Pompey, CF
  20. Trading Sanchez for Bruce would be a mistake. Bruce has power, but he strikesout a ton, struggles to get on base, sucks against lefties, and is an odd fit in LF. Trading Lind for Estrada and than Sanchez for Bruce would break my heart.
  21. Keith law is an arrogant dink who is pretty terrible at what he thinks he's great at, but f*** ESPN.
  22. So we've basically traded Melky, Janssen, and Lind for Martin. If we're done with FA, we're worse than last year.
  23. The next priority is someone, anyoen who can come in and bring legitimate middle of the lineup production and protection in the 5 spot.
  24. A Closer, and a LF or DH who can hit 5th and protect EE. That will be par. Anything beyond that would be gravy. Anything less and its no playoff baseball for bluejays once again.
  25. I'd much rather a Lind type to platoon at DH and give us great production out of the 5th spot in the order while protecting EE, than have Navarro DH/3rd catcher.
