  1. Darvish wasn't a sure thing coming over either. While everyone knew he was as filthy as they get, it was always noted that he doesn't have the best command, he got alot of favourable calls in Japan, and there were concerns over his ability to consistently throw strikes. Obviously to this point, Darvish has been able to compensate for mediocre command with his fantastic stuff, and has emerged as one of the best pitchers in baseball. Tanaka admittedly has a different question, and that question is in regards to his fastball. Obviously he has yet to prove it like Darvish has, but coming over, he's the same caliber of prospect as Darvish was. Darvish had ridiculous upside because of his out of this world stuff. Tanaka has ridiculous upside because he can be the starter version of Koji Uehara. Different players (Darvish and Tanaka), but everything points to them being the same caliber of prospect.
  2. The tape I've seen of Tanaka, I recall him consistantly being in the 91-93 range with his fastball. That's plenty of fastball, especially for a guy noted to have pinpoint command. He was even more dominant than Darvish was in Japan. I'm not going to say I know he can be Darvish, but every piece of legitimate info I've got him says to me he will be a Darvish level of pitcher, a true top of the rotation starter.
  3. I think Tanaka is the one player who could inspire this fanbase again, and get fans excited and back in the seats. Signing him would create a stir, period. I think it would be money well spent for Rogers, assuming he can make a Darvish like impact.
  4. It's subtle, but that comment can def be seen as an indicator to Trouts camp that they'd be interested.
  5. No, I think it's an important draft to swing for top talent up top, as opposed to going the safe route. Both Jenkins and McGuire were "safe" picks.
  6. So as far as I can tell we'll be picking in the 7-10 range, as well as have the #11 pick. I think it's important for this franchise to hit home runs with both of those picks. No more Deck McGuires over Chris Sales.
  7. I was always a big Goins believer, I had him in my top 20 when noone else had him in there top 30. I was at the game last night, and he stole 3 hits away with his glove. Can he continue to hit like this? No, but I think he has enough bat and glove to be a quality starter at 2B in the MLB.
  8. What hurts most is knowing that the money was there to get Darvish....
  9. Izzy's been fantastic lately, and is our best option at 2B once Reyes comes back. I know he was awful to start the year, but he's found himself.
  10. To gear up for a WS run? Believe it or not some teams might value 2 major league players over a B+ prospect.
  11. What do you guys think of targeting 2B prospect Kolten Wong from the Cardinals for something like Izturis and a BP arm like Oliver or Loup? They are desperate for even replacement level play from SS, and Izturis has been looking really good lately. Wong to me could be the top 2B prospect in the game when considering his proximity to the majors and the fact he's a good bet to be a solid all around starter.
  12. I think the Cardinals might be a good fit for a deal. They are desperate for even a replacement level Short Stop in the worst of ways, and Izturis could be just the man they are looking for. Maybe give them a BP arm as well, and we can get a B prospect in return? Perhaps even a Kolten Wong if we sweetened the package?
  13. I think the pecking order for middle/utility infielder goes Reyes Kawasaki Izturis DeRosa Bonifacio
  14. This is too tough. Gotta figure Dickey, Beuhrle, and JJ are locks. I think Wang can be moved to the BP as a long man. Have to say I'm a Rogers believer. Hutch and Drabek I think you can justify keeping in the minors to get their crap together. Happs recovering from a serious head injury, so you can afford to be "extra cautious" with him. Romero? I don't even know what to say if he keeps it up. I guess my prediction would be: ROTATION Dickey JJ Beurhle Morrow Rogers OTHERS Happ (cautious approach, get him ready for 2014) Romero (???) Wang (long man) Hutchison (minors) Drabek (minors)
  15. When the club has been desperate forever for good starting pitching, how can you complain? Raw elite stuff, that goes to college, generally doesn't fall out of the top 5. You take it when you can.
  16. Bickford could be touching triple digits with consistency in a few years.
  17. I don't see how anyone can be mad at this. He already throws as hard as Shipley, is just as raw, yet has 4 years of more projection left on him. I like it.
  18. Haven't been able to scout the draft at all this year, but I will say that I'm almost completely off high school bats. Give me college bats, athletes, and filthy arms. Obviously don't pass on a Mike Trout, though I'd have put him in the athlete category his draft year, but it just seems to be such a rare thing for High School bats to translate. Just too many level jumps needed for them, and the typical high school arm that they are generally going against is in a whole different (and inferior) galaxy compared to the arms they will have to face in the majors. If they even get there... Kris Bryant would have been nice to sign though.
  19. I'm sure the reason is the MLBPA prefers it this way.
  20. I hope so. I have some questions about his makeup after reading the article on the main site. Sounds very Ricky Romero-ish with him just seemingly having lots of personal doubt. But maybe this turnaround is the end of that. I sure hope so.
  21. Nothing less than a series win needed.
