  1. Tellez and Brentz both. Thank god otherwise this draft would have been an abortion. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/07/blue-jays-sign-brentz-tellez-do-not-sign-bickford.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
  2. Agreed. And it's sounding like Brentz may walk according to the latest from Jim Callis: "Starting to sound like #BlueJays won't get 11th-rder Jake Brentz (2nd/3rd-rd talent) done either. May spend about $2 mil total on #mlbdraft." -from his Twitter
  3. Agreed. Cramming 5-7 big upgrades in one offseason is a tough job to pull off. Especially when the team has a history of flailing in Free Agency.
  4. Yes, I agree with you there. A more gradual increase would be ideal.
  5. Why? Couldn't they have told him that he was going to have a limited payroll for 2-4 years but eventually they would expand it? You aren't behind the scenes so to make these either/or statements is speculation. Ownership could have given AA a very fluid plan and timeline for the payroll in which case he wouldn't know if he "had the money or he didn't."
  6. Isn't it entirely possible that ownership never really had a 100% set in stone plan regarding the payroll? Perhaps it was a fluid plan where they told AA that he was going to have to work with a limited payroll for anywhere from 2-4 years and then they'd expand it. That would fall in line with what AA told the public would it not? Many on this board present everything as an either/or proposition where someone is either a big fat liar or they are telling the truth and are idiots. Things aren't always so clear cut.
  7. And now you are making another assumption that ownership kept AA in the dark.
  8. I'm sure this has been said but I hope Delabar makes the All-Star team for no other reason than the fact that it raises his trade value to the schmuck GM's out there. A package of he and Cecil together could net a decent prospect I bet.
  9. How can you be convinced of that, down to the dollar amount even? No offense, that just seems like so much speculation to me.
  10. How is Longoria not on the team? One of the best players in the league who is having a great season.
  11. Who the hell cares what he deserves or not? Fact is Dickey needs someone to catch his knuckler and it sure as heck isn't JPA.
  12. Because he started off the game as the DH and Lind was at 1st before he left with an injury. You can't move him from DH to 1st without losing the DH spot. Thole was there out of necessity.
  13. You must have tuned in late. Lind was hurt in the 3rd inning or so.
  14. Tough game for Thole. Ouch. This was a rough game. That damned bloop double for the Sox and the Jays not being able to cash in runs with the bases loaded and no outs. Yuck.
  15. I don't think he's great but I don't think he's awful either.
  16. I wouldn't be surprised if it was any of the 5.
  17. Reyes is probably about a league average defender but that is a big improvement over the likes of Kawasaki and Izturis. I thought he made some nice plays out there today that our other options wouldn't have been able to make.
  18. I think now would be a good time for a mod deletion.
  19. Geez guys, let's have a little confidence here. Jays are hot and we get them at home. Also, I like our pitchers better in 2 out of the 3 matchups. I'm confident we take 2 of 3.
