  1. 6 of those came when he was a setupman and likely pitched the 7th or 8th inning without ever being given the chance to get a save.
  2. I'm fine with this. Beurhle gave up 8 hits and was pretty lucky to get out of the game with only 1 run. I also don't mind him bringing in one of our better relievers even though it's only the 5th inning. The day off yesterday helps as well.
  3. Diaz' numbers in the minors are just as bad as Goins'. I'd probably prefer Goins but I'd rather have Kawasaki over both of them. Regardless, all three of them are very bad options so it's more of a "pick your poison" situation.
  4. Ah man, terrible news. I didn't know the guy but he always took whatever abuse he was given in stride. There was a time on the old board where he was the consensus "Post of the Year." That happened more than once if I'm not mistaken.
  5. No that's not accurate. When you can run full speed through a bag (like first) then you are right, sliding is slower. But if you have to start slowing down and breaking your stride in to chops so you don't overrun the bag like what Melky did, then it's definitely faster to slide.
  6. Why didn't Melky slide? I think he probably would have made it.
  7. I wish they would just leave the penalties alone. They are high enough as is.
  8. Of course it makes you feel better...hindsight is 20/20.
  9. Bale and Jennifer Lawrence were both brilliant, the scenes without them were substandard.
  10. The first half isn't great, really picks up the second half.
  11. Yeah if he truly did have no payroll to work with he could have traded those 3 to free up some space.
  12. Burnett always gave me that vibe and would be on my list.
  13. Mike Timlin is probably my least favorite. When I was a kid I always thought he sucked (although looking at his stats in hindsight he wasn't bad). Then later on he pitched for the Sox and the amount of reverence he garnered from Sox fans was a over the top.
  14. Not a fan of Towers either although he did bean A-Rod square on the knee with one of his 85 mph fastballs which knocked him out of a couple of games. So I can't be too upset with him.
  15. Nice. Going to read it later today.
  16. That's pretty cool. Maybe one of your next blog posts could be a chart showing how much each pick is approximately worth.
  17. This makes last year's moves look worse. If the team was going to keep increasing payroll, then adding a bunch of big contracts in that fashion was fine with me. And why wouldn't they keep adding payroll? I mean if you had 50 million in one offseason, what's another 15-20 the next offseason? But if they were going to add all that payroll, only to effectively freeze that payroll for future offseasons then you've really limited the #1 way to improve your team. Just a dumb strategy.
  18. I read where he went and got an MRI and had it checked out by Dr. Andrews and it has completely healed. Cannot find link but it's out there.
  19. I appreciate his projections. But he's blasting the FO and saying it's not even debatable that Johnson should have been given the QO. Like you said, we don't have access to the medical reports but the guy has suffered extended DL stints in 3 of the past 6 seasons (as well as surgery this past offseason); that should give anyone pause. But in his eyes, it's not even debatable, Johnson is worth 14 million. On top of it, this team is apparently cash strapped. 14 mil for a guy with Johnson's history is clearly debatable. Personally, do I think the team would be dumb to have offered him 14 mil? Not necessarily but I don't think it's a no brainer either. Also, I appreciate the time he puts in to projections. His model is better than anything I could create if you gave me a decade to do so. But pardon me for being skeptical of it. He does, after all, project Chris Capuano for a career year at 3 WAR. Of the three projections that fangraphs offers, Oliver rates him the highest with 1. Maybe he's right, but we probably won't get the chance to find out, the best Capuano could do is land a job in a bullpen for a couple of mil.
  20. Why is it not debatable "at all"? He has serious health concerns and on the open market he only got 8 million, not even close to the QO. I don't get why you and others think giving 14 million to a guy with his medical history is such a no brainer.
  21. Why is that not defensible? Johnson has serious health concerns.
  22. That's debatable as he signed for just above half of what the QO is worth.
