  1. To each their own, but I don't understand the thought process of investing hours in to the Jays only to cheer against them b/c you disagree with how the team was assembled. Take the Giants, for example. Their process is awful but it's lead to two recent WS wins. Should their fans really cheer against the team just because Sabean is the GM? Also, if you become a fan of the Rays because of their process and success does that make one a bandwagon fan? This is a fair question, they sucked for a decade and have only been good for the past 5 years after all.
  2. So if the Jays played the Rays in the playoffs you'd both cheer for the Rays? (or in Hurl's case, whoever is favorite team is, not sure if Rays)
  3. If the team is healthy and we see some of the younger players perform better than expected (Goins and Hutchinson particularly) the team can contend. The problem is that we have a lot of injury prone players.
  4. I believe that's just a post made by a fangraphs poster and not an actual writer.
  5. So after all of that you end up with what is basically a career year in his age 35 season? Do similar things happen often with your predictive model?
  6. I'm sure he is a nice guy. No big deal. He seems to know his stuff.
  7. Why is that so bizzare? I'm making an arguable point (maybe it's not a popular one and perhaps it's wrong but it is certainly arguable) and he dismisses it as "ridiculous" before giving me a mini-lecture on what stats I should use. Me calling him an ******* seemed warranted to me. Or is that out of line? lol
  8. How do you get a 2.8 WAR for Capuano? He's done that once in his career and it was nearly 10 years ago.
  9. He's a big boy, he can take it.
  10. Steamer projects Happ with 1 WAR and CC with 1.6. Oliver has those numbers reversed, 1 WAR for CC and 1.6 for Happ. Numbers taken from fangraphs. And I used past WAR to illustrate how Happ being as good of a pitcher isn't such a "ridiculous" claim as he's basically done it in the most recent past, not as a predictive measure. You're kind of an *******, btw.
  11. Not joking. Projections are split on who will be better next season. Past two years have been very close in WAR. Capuano is 35, Happ is 31. It's a lot closer than you think.
  12. No it is not ridiculous. The past two seasons Capuano has put up 3.2 to Happ's 2.9. The projections are split on who will be better next season. A 35 year old Capuano may have the edge, but if so, it isn't by much.
  13. Chris Capuano is about as good as JA Happ who inspires little confidence. Not sure what the appeal is there.
  14. He's one of two options?
  15. So it's worth 22.5 Million? That seems way to high.
  16. How much is a 2nd round pick worth? If you use the 7.5 WAR number then he only needs 5.2 WAR over three years.
  17. Would a big market team get involved if he's only looking for one year? I know the Yanks wouldn't but maybe the Dodgers or Sox?
  18. I think that is good news as it probably takes them out of the running for Burnett, right?
  19. Looks like he got 2 years and about 8 million.
  20. That's actually not too bad. Especially considering that we have the most likely chance of all AL East teams of improving the team between now and the end of the season.
  21. So if the method of assembling the team is to your liking but the team ends up sucking on the field you'd enjoy the season? I wouldn't. I don't like the methods the FO is using to assemble the team but if the end result is a WS I'll be quite pleased. My guess is that it would excite you more than you think.
  22. So if the Jays win this year it won't "do a whole lot" for you because you don't like the way the team was assembled?
  23. If we sign Ubaldo/Santana/etc. I don't know if there is a need for Capuano other than for depth as I'm not convinced he'll be any better than Happ this upcoming season. But if we don't sign one of the top remaining FA's, then Capuano would be a fallback option.
  24. Waiting out the market is the new market inefficiency.
  25. How many runs, if any, would we save by doing that?
