    What you say makes sense but said player is signed for this year and next then he's gone. Hard to build around a guy like that with that little team control. I'd explore an extension but trading him has to be considered.

    But if we aren't going to resign him there will be no better time to trade him then at the deadline. We could probably pilfer some serious talent from the Mets.

    Without Donaldson and little help on the way I'm not so sure about that. I guess it'd largely depend on what kind of return we'd get on Donaldson.

    If we resigned Donaldson we could re-tool instead of rebuild. The problem is we don't have many trade assets outside of him and not many prospects coming up. The thought of tearing this thing down and taking 4-5 years to rebuild it hurts my heart though.

    I'll watch them all until the weather gets hot and vacations start happening and I get burnt out. I'll check the scores every day but will probably watch 2-3 a week.

    Happ with elbow soreness. This 2-10 team is about to add Mat Latos to the roster as a regular member of the rotation. The only good thing about that is we'll get to see him and Gibby fistfight later this year.

    Well they are both playing like s*** right now. But let's be optimistic and say they get off to better starts with the Jays. Maybe they really are the difference and we win 2 of those games and are 4-8 instead of 2-10. That's not worth investing 150 million or so at all. The team has core structural issues. Old team and not a great farm system. Think about the farm AA left Shapiro. Shapiro hasn't had one prospect, not a single one, to work with. He might get something out of Pompey or Tellez next year but those guys ceilings are average major leaguers. This team is a mess.

    They definitely could have tinkered more to replace all the trash we carry on our roster but this is exactly right. This team is going to struggle to get to .500 this year. Bringing back Edwin and outbidding for Fowler weren't really going to make much of a difference and it would have only have made our payroll problems worse.

    Happ hurt now too. For some reason Bolsinger isn't even being stretched out in AAA either, they are using him as a reliever.

    Lol I like this. Statman starting the GDT right after the other one ends is what we deserve and maybe even need.

    That is really puzzling. That's the situation where you look for a pitch over the plate that you can put in the seats. But it seemed like he was taking all the way. Why take all the way? I don't understand his approach at all.

    How much does Donaldson get in FA? He's a little older than most premier players when they hit the market. What if we told him we would make him the highest paid play in baseball next season by foregoing his final year of arbitration and gave him 34 mil (one more than Kershaw) a year for 5 years. That's 5 years 170 million and would pay him through his age 36 season. Is there any chance he'd say yes to that?

    I think Shapiro is probably feeling pretty s***** about the results but at the same time IMO he's somewhat vindicated for not pouring a ton of cash and prospect capital in to trying to prop up this team for another run. Is overpaying Dexter Fowler and giving him a NTC really going to be the difference in this soon to be 1-9 start? Not a chance. We could have outspent everyone this offseason but it wouldn't have matter. Too many core players are sucking right now.
