  1. That's exactly it. None of our assets would really return stud prospects but for Stroman, Sanchez and Osuna. Donaldson would as well. Trading any of those guys would probably be punting on 2018 though and all could still get something next deadline. In the case of Sanchez and Donaldson you might not get any less by trading them next year. Could get more.
  2. If Donaldson bounces back next year he probably fetches more at the 2018 deadline than he does this deadline. Trading him now is both selling low and throwing in the towel on 2018.
  3. So who would you trade right now then? This is when the rebuilding argument starts to make less sense.
  4. This is what I've been saying. We won't get s*** for any of our impending FAs. Donaldson would be selling low. Happ and Smoak could be traded but what we they get us? I doubt that much. A true rebuild involves Sanchez, Stroman and Osuna and this team would suck dick moving forward if we did that. We've got a ton of money coming off the books this year. Retool and try again. If it doesn't work then the 2018 deadline we can sell.
  5. He kind of has a similar profile to Zeke tbh.
  6. Stick a fork in 'em. This team sucks.
  7. Estrada suxxx. I get the calls to pull him but in order to get something for him or in order to contend again he's got to get this figured out. Plus the bullpen is getting taxed from all these s***** starts. I don't mind Gibby trying to get his starter through the freaking 5th inning at least.
  8. In addition to the other answers here I thought I read something about protecting him from the Rule 5.
  9. Especially in the playoffs with all the off days. It's why Gibby never should have protested Bauer's finger because once he did we had to go against their ridiculous bullpen.
  10. Unless you tear the whole thing down and start trading Stroman, Sanchez and Osuna for prospects there isn't any guarantee that we net anything worth that much to us in a future rebuild. Donaldson is obviously the exception but now isn't really the time to move him anyway. He's bound to improve at the plate so trading him in the offseason would probably be wiser. Happ and Smoak could get us a small return but otherwise there is nothing to really do. The impending FA's aren't worth much at all. So we could go through the painful exercise of a total 4-5 year Astros style rebuild where Stroman and Sanchez are traded and we are the worst team in the league for a few years or we can continue to try and compete for the Wild Card this year and next.
  11. I hear ya but I read that Gordon can play a capable OF. Barely played it in the minors but did fine and in Winter League he'd play LF and did well. So he could play OF in the event that Travis actually manages to stay on the field moving forward.
  12. Does he what? Improve the team next year? He's probably a 2 WAR player or so moving forward. I've written off Travis as a reliable option. I'm not really aware of anyone else in the org who is ready to contribute at 2B next year either. And yeah I agree, Gordon is probably close to market value. So I wouldn't give up much prospect-wise either but I would say he improves this team's 2B situation this year and next for sure.
  13. Well yeah adding Gordon falls under the presumption that the team wants to compete this year. He also helps next year too.
  14. Gordon is a solid player on an alright contract. Wouldn't want to give up a ton to get him but he'd be a major improvement over the slop we call second basemen. Probably improves the team over a WAR or so for the remainder of this season alone.
  15. There is at least a lot of money coming off the books. Estrada, Liriano, Bautista alone are north of 40 million.
  16. Fangraphs lays out the case for still trying to contend this year. In summary, it says that the offense is bound to be better, getting Sanchez back will help a lot, the bullpen is good and 2B is easily upgraded without giving up anything of long-term value. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-case-for-the-blue-jays/
  17. I'm all for trading Happ as well. He was hurt earlier in the season and is old. Despite that he's probably one of the few guys we have who could net us something at the deadline unless you consider Donaldson or Smoak at which point our chances to contend in 2018 would really take a hit.
  18. Extremely puzzling move by a usually solid FO. I'm not even sure he's starting in year 3 of that deal.
  19. I remember him saying his dad rode him pretty hard and that baseball has been a full-time job for him since he was a little kid. He's been burnt out on it for a long time.
  20. Don't guys who rely on speed age pretty well in baseball? Or is that not true? He should be fine through his age 32 season. I'd take Gordon but there's not a ton of surplus value on that deal moving forward so I'd only give up a B- prospect for him.
  21. This is a massive upgrade. Salty and Maile have been worth about -1.5 WAR and Montero has been worth .3 WAR in similar amounts of PT. Extrapolate that over a full season and we just upgraded the roster by 3.6 WAR. That's a pretty dirty way to crunch the numbers and it's probably too late but this is a big move given the s***** backups we've been trotting out there.
  22. It's getting to that point in the season where I'm starting to get ready to trash my own team.
  23. Sucks but he just wasn't getting it done.
