Not a bad offer and in a vacuum I'd do it. But given our timeline, what our needs are and how much I anticipate we will have to spend and I think I pass on that. Take the 23 million and sprinkle it around on other needs.
It'd be a baseball broadcast version of the Odd Couple. The polite and lovable goof in Barry Davis constantly cringing on air and apologizing for the crass Zaun.
I know you're joking but I think we match up well with them. I wonder if they'd be interested in a Stroman for Gray type of deal. They'd probably be interested in Smoak and Tepera too.
I was going to say Buck Martinez but somehow he's only been a relatively good looking guy since he got old.
EDIT: Also, I saw John Farrell get some 25 year old tail at the winter meetings like 8 years ago. She was a dime. I guess that doesn't mean he's good looking though.
Taking a page out of Tercet's playbook in where one creates a strawman fanboy that doesn't exist on this board and then argues against that fanboy. This time it's Merryweather instead of Teoscar.
Martin has definitely been worth it IMO. Tulo has been a dud. Morales is meh. Altogether it's a pretty bad collection of contracts at this point but the pain is going to start wearing off soon.
Thanks. That would make it more palatable to me but we signed this guy to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training last year. Guys like him are a dime a dozen. I'd have to look at the 40 man but I'm not sure he did enough last year to warrant a guaranteed 40 man spot and nearly 2 million bucks.
If we really wanted him back he might agree to something less than what he's going to get in arbitration anyway.
It's not a huge amount of money but I don't think he's very good. He hasn't had a positive WAR season in a long time. Does he have options? If he has options I'd consider keeping him.
My comments on Merryweather aren't an indictment on the trade in general. s*** happens and Donaldson completely f***ed his value this year. It is what it is. I just think Merryweather sucks is all and will be pleasantly surprised if he turns into anything better than an average reliever.
Just wait until next year when we have a new manager. Everyone will miss Gibby. The guy rarely f***s up and he's got a great and entertaining personality on top of it.
Not looking good for the Red, White and Blue. Like Bob said, need to load up on the better players and there is no margin for error anymore. Won't exactly take a miracle but they are going to have to play really really well.
Well he made 1.4 mil this year and he's due for a raise through arbitration. I have no idea what he'll make which would of course play a factor in retaining him or not but my thinking was let's save the 3 million and clear him off the 40 man instead of hanging onto him. But I'd be open to finding a way to hang onto him too. I just don't think he's any good anymore.
I forgot about Bobby Cox but he's known as the Braves manager. Never heard of Bobby Mattick but I looked him up and he had a .388 w% in a season and a half so I assume you're joking about him. lol
Can someone lend a hand and tell me if the Avalanche going to be good this year? I plan on attending exactly one game this year as I always do, the opener. But if they make the playoffs I'll probably go to some of those too.
