Bellinger barely grades out any better than Merrifield who we have a team option on for 6 million.

Knowing the Angels they hang on to him and then he walks in a year. Would be a perfect fit for the Jays (and every other team in baseball) and you know Rogers/Sportsnet would love having him for a year. But the cost would probably be too high and Atkins seems to want to win 90 games forever rather than win 100 for a year so I don't see it happening but it's fun to dream.

Ohtani is bad mouthing the Angels (pretty mild but for him it's about the worst thing he'll ever say) and I think the Angels will have to at least listen on trades this offseason. I think the Jays and Angels could have been a possible trade partner with the Jays involving a guy like Kirk but since the Angels acquired O'Hoppe at the deadline I think it makes them less of a fit.

I assume the Dodgers would just give him away but I don't think Bellinger at his projected 18.1 Mil arb price is a good fit when we are going to need to add a couple of starting pitchers who will be pricey. His glove grades out well but his bat is just so atrocious. I'd rather just offer Stripling the QO. If Bellinger gets non-tendered perhaps we could offer him something much lower than 18 mil but even then I just don't see CF as this huge need like the rest of the board does.

For all the talk of how thin our rotation is, and deservedly so, we have a plethora of AAA hitters who look like solid depth/bench players we can pull from heading into next year. I don't think Steamer's 2023 projections are out yet, but by using the in season projections all of the following look like they could be solid, Barger especially. There's also some fringier types like Chavez Young (CF defense), Davis Schneider and others. Otto Lopez - SS/CF Spencer Horwitz - LF/1B Tanner Morris - 2B/3B Addison Barger - 2B/3B/SS Maybe we could find a team that would want one of these guys for an equivalent AAA SP. Some team with okay pitching but major holes in the lineup could line up in a trade. Or maybe even Craig Biggio's son could be used in a similar trade.

Yeah probably but the team should push him to get out there. He seems like a team player who wants to be out there. At the time of his signing, he was the dude of the team. I think he would love to come back and contribute to a playoff run.

So Ryu underwent surgery on June 18. The timeline for return is typically 12-18 months but I think pitchers are trending more toward the 12 month period now right? I believe there's a new technique which makes it a more concrete 12 months instead of the 18 even but I don't know if Ryu underwent that procedure or not. Seeing as he's a FA at the end of the year, I think it makes sense for both parties for him to rehab and try and come back for the second half. So it'd be about 12.5 months which is doable.

Wouldn't finding a couple of starting pitchers better than Yusei Kikuchi or Mitch White be a better way to address run prevention? Seems pretty obvious to me. But what do I know I'm only the BJMB Poster of the Year going on 15 plus years now.

Why is everyone so hellbent on fixing the CF defense when the more obvious problem is SS defense? Is it racism (Springer is African-American) or ageism (Springer is old)? Or do you all just not know as much about the game as you think you do (yer all DUMN)?

I'm not assuming that. If there's a good trade for a C that doesn't involve pitching then that could be okay. But it's clear what the team needs are. Getting someone better than Mitch White and Yusei Kikuchi is a higher priority than getting a lefty bat in there over Lourdes Gurriel Jr (who hits RHP just fine) or a CFer in there over Springer.

Fans love cookie cutter rosters where we've got a perfectly balanced lineup of alternating Righties and Lefties and perfect backups who blend in well neatly with the starters. Reality is that this isn't MLB The Show where we've got 1 user and 29 idiot NPC GM's. We've got some major holes in the rotation and anything we do there is going to greatly improve the team and should be the focal point far beyond swapping a bunch of s*** around just to get a lefty into the everyday lineup (who's probably going to bat bottom 3 anyway) or to get a CF and shift Springer over to RF. That stuff would be nice but it isn't 100 percent necessary to make a bunch of moves for marginal improvements.

I did say that a good backup would be a good idea. But frankly we might have that guy in Whit Merrifield anyway. And Rocket's bizarre usage was mostly a product of him playing in the corners (685.2 innings) vs. centerfield (249.2) but hopefully he's non-tendered and Whit replaces him anyway.

Hard disagree with this sentiment. George Springer was 5th in WAR among CFers this year. He's fine there next year too but a good backup wouldn't be a bad idea. If something falls into our laps I'd consider it but it is not a major need nor does it rank very high on the list of our offseason priorities.

LOL. Kirk is an elite framer and overall good defensive C. The fact that his bat is so damn good that he can also serve as a primary DH for a team stacked at Catcher isn't the knock on Kirk that you think it is.

Trading Jansen makes the most sense and anyone here who doesn't see that is just plain DUMN. -Jansen is the most expensive and the team is getting pricey. But he's not so expensive that it would prohibit any teams from trading for him. -He has the least amount of control left and members of the the core are getting closer to FA. If we trade him and he balls out for two years it's not the end of the world when we have more than capable replacements. Trading 4 years of Kirk or 6 years of the #1 prospect in baseball could definitely sting. But he's also not a rental, again making him an attractive option for the acquiring team. -He's also the most injury prone, but he's coming off a pretty damn good year despite the injuries and finished the season healthy. Perfect time to sell high on him. The only reasons I've seen for trading Kirk over Jansen are DUMN. All anyone says is (1) Kirk is fat and (2) Kirk has more trade value. 1 is just stupid because Kirk is under control through his age 27 season. His fat butt will be just fine until then and he's proven to be more durable than Jansen has anyway. 2 is DUMN because you're just admitting that Kirk is the better asset than Jansen! It's not going to kill the team to keep the better asset you dipshits. We need a couple of backend starters and a reliever and possibly a left handed bat. That's it.

Schneider let Gausman face Frazier who is a lefty and then pulled him against Santana right after. Under your theory why not Mayza there? But anyway, back to the situation at hand in Santana and two lefties being up after him. The Mariners were hellbent on pinch hitting for Kelenic with Dylan Moore who crushes lefties (they even did it with 2 outs and no one on base). And by bringing in Mayza you increase the odds of Santana getting on base by a lot. .290 OBP vs. righties compared to .380 OBP vs. lefties. Schneider thought he was going to limit a big inning by doing option 1 instead of option 2.
