  1. Agreed. If Konnor Griffin hits FA at 25 he could sign a billion dollar contract. McConigle could get a touch less as a 27 year old. Signing as a 30 year old cuts that in half. The "life changing" money argument doesn't really fly for me either. Anything short of catastrophic injury and they will make life changing money through arb and one year FA deals. Unfortunately, Vlad and Bo understood this.
  2. Yeah we've got a shot to bury the Brewers here. Their bullpen is mid and Patrick doesn't pitch very deep into games, even when he's clicking he can't go past 5. If Cease can give us 6 strong it will set us up well for tomorrow.
  3. Some pre-game notes: Sosa is active, Fitzgerald optioned. Yesavage aiming for 4 innings and 65 pitches tomorrow in Buffalo. If all goes well he could join the team in Anaheim. Berrios aiming for 3 innings and 50 pitches Thursday in Dunedin. After Gaus and Cease pitch this week, openers are being considered for the other starters
  4. This lineup is UGLY. Right from the start, you've got Ernie and Varsho, both with career .296 OBPs, setting the table for our $500 million dollar man. At least Gausman is on the mound and not one of the human gas cans we call our 3-4-5 starters, that gives us a chance.
  5. The roster fit is a little puzzling but I wouldn't worry too much about that bc they gave up very little. Rich is a 17th rounder who signed for slot. The PTBNL or cash considerations are probably based on Sosa's playing time? If he doesn't play much the Jays probably don't have to give up much more. If everyone is back they could option Lukes and cut bait with Eloy and make Sosa fit. Or they could try and trade Straw. Or they could simply cut Sosa and they are out a 17th round pick. Or this team is cursed and no one ever gets healthy and Sosa sticks around that way.
  6. We'll be fine offensively if we can get healthy. We are 11th in MLB in wRC+ right now but 28th with RISP, hence the low run total. That will even out. 3-4-5 in the rotation are killing us right now and that should get better too. Yesavage should be back soon and then Berrios shortly after that. And surely Lauer and Scherzer can't be this bad.
  7. Yeah I think it's Fitzgerald for now, but when Springer and Barger are back in a week then it will get interesting. They might have to option Lukes and DFA Eloy?
  8. Yeah a lefty might have been better but it's hard to find them in the infield. If Sosa himself was a lefty, he's probably starter material and would be much harder to acquire than for an 18 year old nobody.
  9. Rich hasn't debuted yet and he was a low pick so it's hard to find any info on him. Sosa is out of options, but has 3 more years of control after this one. He has some pop but not much else.
  10. It seems like in 10 days or so we should have Barger, Springer and Yesavage back. Just need to tread some water on this road trip. Thankfully the AL is sucking ass. Somehow we are only 2 games back of the AL East lead.
  11. This was probably mentioned but our bullpen didn't give up a run the entire series. But our starters combined to give up 19 runs and we lost 2 of the 3 games anyway.
  12. I bet the Twins thought they had it in the bag when they were up 4-0 lmao
  13. Love it when the opposing team sacrifice bunts against our gas can pitcher
  14. I mean, the guy we signed for a million bucks to make some emergency starts and is pitching right now seems like the prime target to me lol
  15. Good news is that Yesavage only needs 1 more start and then he's ready
  16. It is interesting that Barger, Schneider, Sanchez and Lukes all project really similarly. Barger and Sanchez are toolsy and Schneider and Lukes are more approach based. I wish they would mix Barger in more at 3B against tough righties as Okamoto gets acclimated to MLB pitching. I wish Davis would play more 2B too.
  17. As the Day 1 President of the Nathan Lukes Fan Club I feel like I am being tarred and feathered. Sadly, poor Lukes became a rookie when he was already in his physical decline years so it's possible his days are numbered and the broken clocks who never thought he was any good are finally proven right. But his 19 ABs this year nor is his performance last year (2nd half, playoffs, or otherwise), are really any sure indicator that he's cooked either. Schneider has shown worse stretches than this. He bats lefty and is a good fielder so if it's between him and Schneider against RHP you probably want to run Lukes out there more often than not.
  18. With an off day at home, I’m sure the team was on the Trajekt machine getting ready for this slop. I bet we hammer these guys.
  19. Sure, piece of cake. In the meantime, can you help me understand why rostering a pitcher who can hit should result in an extra roster spot?
