  1. I haven't read it but I have heard it is good and does a good job of dissuading the reader from the false notion that Ty Cobb was a racist.
  2. Orelvis went 0-1 with 2 BBs and a Sac Fly last night.
  3. https://fantasy.fangraphs.com/savant-hitter-aging-curves-improvement-chances/ The majority of that article discusses hitter improvements but at the end he does discuss launch angle improvements and has a nifty chart to help explain.
  4. Doesn't seem like it but the Jays' record is 12-8 in June. I think the division is probably gone but I do think the team can still make a run at WC1. We need to close out the first half strong and we are finally at that point in the schedule where things soften up a little. A's Giants Red Sox @ White Sox @ Tigers 9-6 is probably the bare minimum for what I would consider acceptable but hopefully we can get hot and win 11 or 12 during this stretch.
  5. Yeah and to add, during the whole Bass fiasco it didn't seem like the bans were any sort of punishment. It was more a situation of two or three mods who volunteer their time simply trying to get a hold of a situation that had exploded out of control. Maybe someone got banned when they should have while someone else slipped through the cracks but who cares? (says the guy who didn't get banned!) The point is that the entire board was having a meltdown over a middle reliever and something needed to be done.
  6. The Rockies almost never sell. But yeah overall with the s***** Central divisions keeping a lot of teams in it to go along with the 3 WCs there are a lot of potential buyers and not many sellers. Going to make the prices sky high again like last year.
  7. FYI Cody Bellinger is 4 for his last 37 with just 1 extra base hit. He has a career low exit velocity this year and hasn't hit a homer since April.
  8. Bellinger is down to a 105 wRC+ FYI
  9. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight. And he saved our season.
  10. For comparison's sake, Jasson Dominguez had a ton of hype as an international signing. He's currently a consensus top 60ish prospect ranging from #47 on MLB Pipeline to #67 on Baseball America. He's slashing .207/.353/.385 in the Eastern League as a 20 year old. Another metric in Orelvis' favor. Before the year Zips does their 3 year projections and by 2025 they think he'll be a 3 WAR player in the bigs as a 23 year old. That would be quite the asset. After what presumably will be a big year for Orelvis, those projections are likely to go up.
  11. Opposite field line drive single off Rodon? Wow!
  12. Sorry that was a little bit overkill. I was in working all night and got a little too in depth after switching to baseball talk. In short, I think last year threw up some red flags so you are right to worry about him but some of it can be excused by his age. He seems to have turned a corner and is getting his prospect shine back. It's not just a BABIP fueled hot streak either. His underyling numbers like his Ks as well as his pop ups are improving and this has been going on for 7 weeks and counting. Sometimes prospect development isn't linear and straightforward. They can sometimes zig zag their way into becoming MLB starters or even stars.
  13. That thing was obliterated!
  14. They highlighted some concern but they weren't THAT bad for a 20 year old in AA. Yeah but you are doing it wrong because you aren't applying his age/level and you also are discounting 7+ weeks of him HAMMERING the ball this year as nothing but a "hot streak." If a guy is young I think it's fair to suggest that a 7+ week trend of him hitting the s*** out of the ball after adjusting to a new level might be due to development and improvement. This isn't a 30 year old vet having two good weeks after 2.5 years of being s***. Orelvis also hit the s*** out of the ball in 2019 and 2021 and made some Top 100 prospect lists so his success isn't limited to just these past 7 weeks, he's had a lot of success for the majority of his pro career. I can't even follow your logic here. You thought he was a legit star before but now that he's hammering the ball again it's just a hot streak because he had an iffy year after an aggressive promotion? Prospect development isn't always linear. Yes. Maybe temporarily. It's actually the opposite at least until he proves otherwise.
  15. The Orelvis "hot streak" continues. 3 for 4 today with a double. Slashing .225/.322/.530 on the year and those numbers are climbing fast. He was slashing .089/.169/.266 on May 9th.
  16. Playing 4D Chess out there with his pinch hitting subs. Skip Poomaker tried matching him but then Schneider outsmarted him again by putting in Mayza to get the double play.
  17. I don't think we've scored in 18 innings.
  18. BREAKING NEWS: Boomer-aged coach has boomer political views That isn't meant as a slight to anyone who says this could lead to something because it certainly could. But I really hope it doesn't. I do not want the Jays to be the only team to remove a player and coach over political/culture war views. There's a lot of players and coaches who agree with these guys and it wouldn't be ideal to be the one team seen as punishing these people.
  19. Big mistake. Never ignore the age/level of a prospect my friend.
  20. You are making two false assumptions. First, his previous numbers weren't even that bad for being the youngest player in the league but you talk about those numbers like it's proof positive evidence that he's a bust. Second, you seem to assume that his month and a half stretch of showing improved numbers across the board is more than likely a hot streak when the plausible explanation is that he's simply developing. To answer your question, at this point he seems like an extremely high risk prospect. He could continue to figure things out and become a prototypical power hitting 3B or major league pitchers could exploit his approach and he's a guy who flames out after some cups of coffee. But I think he has a pretty good chance to become an MLB starter (2 WAR player) and will put that as his 50th percentile projection or so? But there is obviously a long ways to go as he's just 21.
  21. Ok and what about the past month and a half? Do those stats not count? Everything is getting better, even his pop up rate. Write him off if you want but I think he's developing pretty well. Last year was an aggressive promotion and it lead to a blip on his minor league numbers that showed some concern, but he has turned a corner and is raking.
  22. Logo on the side is a little bit big but otherwise they aren't bad. I probably wouldn't buy one either way though.
  23. You have to account for him being one of the youngest players at those levels. He's STILL young for his current level, even a year later.
