    That's also more luck than it is a sustainable skill.

    Maybe with the additional baserunner in extra innings things have changed some but winning one-run games was always thought to be the result of random chance and not a sustainable skill. Wouldn't a good offense be just as likely to help? For example, if you are down by a run heading into the 9th on the road, a good offense is your only chance to turn a 1 run loss into a 1 run win. And I can think of scenarios where a bad bullpen could actually help your record in 1 run games as well. Say you are up by 4 runs after your starter exits the game. Insert a couple of s***** relievers to close it out who give up some runs and it turns that 4 run win into a 1 run win. So I'm pretty sure they just have a horseshoe stuck up their ass. Hopefully it falls out this series.

    Atkins getting ready to offer another slap hitting 2B to the lady running the Marlins. Not sure if he's cute enough though.

    Angels just don't have the numbers and the guys they have acquired aren't going to get them there. They are 4 back and they have to hold off the Mariners who they are tied with and then jump 3 of the following 4 teams: Yankees, Red Sox, Jays and Astros. Jumping the Yankees and Red Sox seems doable but jumping one of the Jays and Astros who have 4 game leads seems so unlikely.

    Hate to see us lose the SP depth. Seems like next year we would finally have some. But Hicks could be the best reliever on the market outside of Hader. One thing to note is that both Kloff and Robberse need to be added to the 40 man after the season so that definitely played a factor. I love the depth of the bullpen now. Come playoff time that could come in huge.

    Jonn might be the rudest Canadian I've ever encountered. 25k posts in 8 years of posting and ZERO thanks. He makes Spanky look like a proper gentleman and that's saying something.

    Jays have been interested in Verlander the past couple of contracts he signed. Mets would need to eat a ton of money to make it work though.

    Based upon Chapman's reaction I don't foresee a managerial role in his future. We've got one of the best pitchers in baseball on the hill, it's the first inning with one out and no one on. Walking him would be stupid in that situation.

    If he's on and delivers in the ~20 regular seasons innings we give him and then delivers in the playoffs too it could be worth kicking the tires on. So I see what you are saying but what would we give up for him? It would take at least one of our top 5 prospects to go with another guy in the Top 10. I think we could all agree that we wouldn't trade Tiedemann for him but would we trade Barger and Sem Robberse for him? Or Orelvis Martinez and Kloff? Or Barriera and Schneider? At the minimum it probably takes a package like that right? And probably more.

    Do I need to remind you of reliever volatility and how even the best of them can suck in those small sample sizes? He'd be a great target but he's a rental and in a seller's market I think he'll command too much prospect capital.

    Hader had an ERA over 7 after the Padres acquired him at trade deadline last year. Where was that "dog in em" then?

    Cubs have won 6 in a row and are within spitting distance of the Wild Card and Division lead.

    He delivered in the most high pressure moment of his career. He just wasn't very good otherwise.

    The whole farm system outlook has taken a drastic turn toward improvement after the first month of the season. Tiedemann, Barreria and Barger are back from injury. Orelvis and a few others did a 180. And a ton of guys previously off the radar are continuing to have good years.

    Yeah he's very good at blocking balls too. So add it all up, even with a 93 wRC+ bat, and he's still a pretty good player.

    Yeah and on top of all that, they have the 2nd hardest remaining schedule in the AL. The Orioles have the toughest.

    Despite Swanson getting BABIP'd to hell in the nightmare ninth inning, the Jays bullpen this series pitched 13.1 innings with an ERA of 3.37. Take that one unlucky inning away and they were damn near perfect. Include that inning and they were still pretty good against the elite Dodgers. I expect a sincere handwritten apology to both the posters of this esteemed message board as well to the members of the Toronto Blue Jays bullpen. They most certainly didn't deserve all the slander you've been levying against them this week.

    Having them both made more sense when both of them were hitting like studs because you could just DH the other one. But with Kirk's bat taking a dip it doesn't make as much sense to tie up so many resources into them. I would say option A.

    But I was told that the Orioles are serious World Series contenders and that the Jays suck?
