I was thinking the same thing. Surely he could get some ABs in LF with Merrifield playing 2B. We need the offense. -
They should have called up Horwitz instead of Lukes and got his bat into the lineup somehow tonight. Dude is on a heater.

We are in the middle of a 17 game stretch with no off days. It's also getting to be pretty late in the year so guys are tired. I think the Jays are trying to "steal" a day off for some regulars both yesterday and today because the Indians are the worst team in the league against left handed pitching with a .656 OPS on the year against them. Most of the regulars like Whit, Chapman and Vlad have all gotten a day off in the past 3 days. Ryu yesterday and Kikuchi today should be able to keep them from scoring too many runs, thus allowing the team a good chance to still win. As for Espinal playing 3rd today, my guess is they don't yet trust Schneider at the position at the MLB level so he's next man up.

I don't really disagree with anything you and spanky are saying until we get to the "nice contributor" part. He's been negative WAR in 2 out of the last 3 years and the season he was actually positive was largely due to him grading out well defensively for the first and only time in his career. So yeah, he's a bench guy but he's not a good one IMO. That is interesting about the slow starts though. Perhaps he'll hit the rest of the way. And maybe he'll eventually prove me wrong. But 3 years and all these wasted ABs is a long time to wait. He's about to enter his physical decline years.

In all seriousness he's barely hanging on. Today will help but he's been negative WAR in 2 of the past 3 years (though today's game might have gotten him out of the red for this year). The fact he bats left helps him a lot. But we have a shitload of bench guys coming up through the system so he'll need to keep playing well to remain on the roster.

If John Angelos is willing to interfere with things this insignificant it wouldn't shock me if he had his hand in other decisions as well, perhaps even player personnel. We all know he's a cheapskate, but is he also directing the FO to hoard all these prospects too?

Actually damn near everyone is hitting in Buffalo. And I mean EVERYONE. -Horwitz on fire -The actual prospects like Barger and Orelvis (for a 21 year old) are hitting -The veteran minor leaguers such as Lukes and Clement -Rafael Lantigua is a midget but he's putting up numbers -Luis De Los Santos is up to a 105 wRC+. He's never hit well at any level but is a plus defensive SS from what little I've been able to read about him -Cam Eden has a .360 OBP, is apparently a good CFer and is 42 of 45 on steals this year -I gave up on Tanner Morris but even he's been mashing since a slow April -And of course there was Babe Schneider who is now the best hitter in MLB Does this place turn in to a hitter's park in the summer or something? From everything I've read it's fairly neutral for a AAA park.

Spencer Horwitz has been on fire in AAA. In his last 30 games he's slashing .387/.504/.604. He's got 5 of his 7 homers on the year in that span and has walked 25 times with 19 Ks in 111 ABs.

Tim Anderson on the other hand...yikes Robin Ventura was an otherwise likable guy and was having a Hall of Fame career with 57 WAR through his age 35 season until injuries forced him to retire just a year later. But no one remember anything about him other than getting whooped by Nolan Ryan.
