  1. It wasn't even close. They were playing deep and the fielder got to the ball right away.
  2. It's time to close out the first half strong and it starts tonight. The boys are going to come out swinging and Bassit is going to give us 6 strong. 7-2 Jays win.
  3. Vlad Jr. is going to nuke the Oakland A's this weekend. I can feel it.
  4. If Dick is really that good of a shooter to go along with him being 6'8'' that seems like a good pick. How did the Nuggets and Kings do? Don't know a ton about the NBA but those are my "teams."
  5. He's done. Drop him.
  6. Yeah the top guys got off to AWFUL starts. Tiedemann and Barriera with minor injuries. Zulu looks like he sucks. Orelvis off to a slow start. Barger with a slow start and hurt. Gabriel Martinez sucks. Otto Lopez off to a slow start. The list goes on. But beyond the familiar names there's been a shitload of guys who look like they will contribute to the org in some capacity. Francis looks to have #5 potential. Davis Schneider has come out of nowhere and looks like a possible starter. Horowitz looks like a contributor. Orelvis has had a huge rebound and if it continues will be back on the Top 100 lists. Otto Lopez has rebounded. Leo Gimenez continues his slow and steady climb toward big league relevance. De Jesus has rebounded. And then there has been a system wide step forward among the arms. Seems like there are 8+ arms that weren't on the radar at all that are now at least fringe prospects.
  7. Vlad is barely better than Hinske? Worse than Teo? And worse than Jose Cruz? lmao yikes
  8. Maybe he can be Eugenio Suarez. Suarez ran pretty low batting averages but they weren't as low as Orelvis. But Suarez also wasn't pushed as aggressively. Seems like a decent comp.
  9. This article explains it pretty well: https://nypost.com/2015/05/31/how-ty-cobb-was-framed-as-a-racist/ TL;DR: He was a hothead who fought a lot of people, including blacks (fighting was a lot more common back then) and was from the South so he was labeled a racist. But he wasn't even really known as a racist until his biographer sensationalized everything to sell more books. Cobb was going to sue him but died before he could do so.
  10. I haven't read it but I have heard it is good and does a good job of dissuading the reader from the false notion that Ty Cobb was a racist.
  11. Orelvis went 0-1 with 2 BBs and a Sac Fly last night.
  12. https://fantasy.fangraphs.com/savant-hitter-aging-curves-improvement-chances/ The majority of that article discusses hitter improvements but at the end he does discuss launch angle improvements and has a nifty chart to help explain.
  13. Doesn't seem like it but the Jays' record is 12-8 in June. I think the division is probably gone but I do think the team can still make a run at WC1. We need to close out the first half strong and we are finally at that point in the schedule where things soften up a little. A's Giants Red Sox @ White Sox @ Tigers 9-6 is probably the bare minimum for what I would consider acceptable but hopefully we can get hot and win 11 or 12 during this stretch.
  14. Yeah and to add, during the whole Bass fiasco it didn't seem like the bans were any sort of punishment. It was more a situation of two or three mods who volunteer their time simply trying to get a hold of a situation that had exploded out of control. Maybe someone got banned when they should have while someone else slipped through the cracks but who cares? (says the guy who didn't get banned!) The point is that the entire board was having a meltdown over a middle reliever and something needed to be done.
  15. The Rockies almost never sell. But yeah overall with the s***** Central divisions keeping a lot of teams in it to go along with the 3 WCs there are a lot of potential buyers and not many sellers. Going to make the prices sky high again like last year.
  16. FYI Cody Bellinger is 4 for his last 37 with just 1 extra base hit. He has a career low exit velocity this year and hasn't hit a homer since April.
  17. Bellinger is down to a 105 wRC+ FYI
  18. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight. And he saved our season.
  19. For comparison's sake, Jasson Dominguez had a ton of hype as an international signing. He's currently a consensus top 60ish prospect ranging from #47 on MLB Pipeline to #67 on Baseball America. He's slashing .207/.353/.385 in the Eastern League as a 20 year old. Another metric in Orelvis' favor. Before the year Zips does their 3 year projections and by 2025 they think he'll be a 3 WAR player in the bigs as a 23 year old. That would be quite the asset. After what presumably will be a big year for Orelvis, those projections are likely to go up.
  20. Opposite field line drive single off Rodon? Wow!
  21. Sorry that was a little bit overkill. I was in working all night and got a little too in depth after switching to baseball talk. In short, I think last year threw up some red flags so you are right to worry about him but some of it can be excused by his age. He seems to have turned a corner and is getting his prospect shine back. It's not just a BABIP fueled hot streak either. His underyling numbers like his Ks as well as his pop ups are improving and this has been going on for 7 weeks and counting. Sometimes prospect development isn't linear and straightforward. They can sometimes zig zag their way into becoming MLB starters or even stars.
  22. That thing was obliterated!
