  1. Yeah there is something underneath the hood there. Based on the stats available to us fans, his bat looks good and the defense rates good enough. My guess is his defense is actually atrocious and that the positive metrics he got last year were a blip. So he's basically a 1B who projects for a slightly above average bat.
  2. Now that he's a FA it seems like it's even less of a possibility that he ends up in TO. He'd have to battle with the island of misfit toys for playing time at 3B and Turner at DH. Vlad is locked in at 1B and Danny Burgers and Canadian Hero Joey Votto also loom as possible bench bats. We also have 2 catchers who are good enough to DH. Seems like there are other teams out there who could give him better opportunities. I suppose if the Jays really like him they could solve all of the playing time problems by telling him that he'd be the starting 3B. But given that he was just available for basically free my guess is that the Jays don't really want him.
  3. Yeah he could be. The options we have are really closely grouped together in terms of talent. I don't think anyone really knows who the best is for certain right now. IKF- Jays FO seem to think he's the best and he's probably the best defensively. Espinal- Despite this board hating him he's about 200 ABs removed from being a 2 WAR player. Also projects to be the best. Clement- He could be the best if this never striking out thing propels him to an AVG-fueled bat first profile. Biggio- I doubt he's the best of the bunch but he might be against RHP. Barger- Is he even playing 3B anymore? AAA lotto ticket- Parmesani
  4. Love seeing an 0 for 4 for Vogelbach. Only a matter of time before he gets kicked to the curb for HoFer Joey Votto.
  5. We could probably squeeze Davis into a bench spot. C: Jansen UT: Biggio/Schneider 1B/3B: Davis ???: Clement, Espinal, Vogelbach, Votto We could probably keep Clement, option Espinal and dump Vogelbach. It sounds like Votto is willing to start in the minors. I don't think the Jays are that interested in him though. Seems like if they were they would have given the Giants a ham sandwich for him by now. And I like that he brings a different skillset than the other 3B options but he's not necessarily better, he's just different. And I'm not sure that difference is worth adding 7 more mil to the payroll when we might need it at the deadline.
  6. Cleveland is higher in waiver priority than us. And I doubt the Jays are even interested, if they were they would have offered the Giants something that would have been better than merely putting him on waivers. Even if we are, I could see non-contenders like the Rockies to contenders with higher priority than us (like the Guardians, Mariners or even Yankees) all being interested. Little chance he ends up a Jay IMO.
  7. Cleveland would be a good fit for JD Davis. They are desperate for power and have a ton of lefties in the lineup that Davis can spell at various positions.
  8. Steamer600 Projections: Schneider- 2.7 WAR Espinal- 1.9 IKF- 1.5 Clement- 1.5 J.D. Davis- 1.3 Biggio- 1.3 Not sure if J.D. Davis is worth 7 mil in addition to punting one of these guys off the 25 man. My guess is the Jays won't put a claim in.
  9. Davis makes sense in some ways but his contract is 7 mil and we have a logjam in the infield as it is. Even if we option Espinal, bringing Davis in could mean we lose Clement, have to option Schneider or god forbid, cut ties with Canadian hero Joey Votto. Also, it's not a good sign that the Giants are just placing him on waivers either. The metrics are mixed on his defense but this tells me that it must suck because the bat is fine for 3B. Surely they tried trading him and didn't find much of a market for him. Though they could still work out a trade I suppose.
  10. Yeah the Rays will squeeze every drop of talent out of you but they will also treat you like a Strat-o-matic card and pull your playing time for the slightest of advantage.Still, it seems like the path to playing time in TB is far better than in NYY.
  11. No Votto and no Schneider...that roster is going to get an F from me Dean
  12. Yeah Lukes is good org depth in case of an injury to an outfielder. But his skillset isn't unique enough to make him a good bench piece for our roster right now. He'd basically be another left handed hitting outfielder only he's worse than the two we've already got and his bat isn't good enough for him to be the Votto/Vogelbach bench bat type. Keep him in AAA and if we get an injury to an OF then he would make plenty of sense to call up.
  13. Then in AAA we have various 1.5 WAR options like Espinal, Horwitz, and Lukes. To go with AAA prospects ranging from 50 FV (Orelvis) to 45 FV (Barger, Jimenez) to 40 FV (Horwitz, Roden, Parmesani). Pretty decent depth.
  14. So he's like Tony Gwynn only he can play SS?
  15. TIL that Danny Burgers ever had a prime, let alone that he's still in it
  16. Best case scenario is that the past two years were injury related and now that he's fully healthy he puts up a 2021 kind of season, but slightly worse to account for two years of aging. Worst case scenario is he sucks for a month and gets cut for the AAA guy who is most deserving. Meanwhile Danny Burgers signs with another AL contender and hits 15 homers in a platoon role.
  17. Bingo. The role is the 26th man, the difference in talent probably isn't that big (there's even a decent chance Votto is better), Votto brings vetrin presents for whatever that is worth, and on top of it all Votto is a HoFer and one of the best personalities in baseball the past 20 years. Unless he looks completely cooked this spring I think he's making the team.
  18. The Danny Burgers fanboys are so shook right now lol
  19. Wow I didn't realize he was in the best shape he's been in for years.
  20. I need the Canadian version of whatever the hell this is:
  21. If we were talking about replacing prime David Ortiz with Votto I would get the concern from all you no-fun buzzkills. But we are talking about replacing Danny Burgers lmao
