  1. Good signing. He's probably cooked but he was once pretty interesting so def worth a look.
  2. The other thing they do that is annoying is that they don't use their bench after the game starts. This is the best bench we've had in franchise history. They should be make changes very early in the game. We've got a 3 run lead in the 5th inning and Horwitz just slap hit a single? Pinch run with Clement and let him take over 2B for the defense. KK comes up to bat in a huge spot in the 4th and we are down by 3 runs? Put Barger in there to see if he can get an extra base hit. Instead, the starting 9 plays until the end of the game almost no matter what.
  3. You guys were definitely right about bringing KK back I thought it could turn out okay as I think accumulating a bunch of WAR (2.8 fWAR and 3.8 bWAR last year) would work no matter where it comes from (i.e. a 2 WAR glove first guy > 1.5 WAR offense guy) but his bat has just cratered and I should have seen it coming given his last couple of years in Tampa He's still got some use as a bench player though so that problem could be solved if they'd just play him a lot less but that signing ain't looking so hot
  4. Speaking of Ernie all 165 pounds of him has an ISO 32 points higher and a SLG 28 points higher than Vlad lol
  5. You guys keep repeating this but you are cutting off the key point to help your argument. No one says "nothing could have been done". The point is that "nothing could have been done to fix the offense that would compare to the core guys returning to form." And it's still so obviously true. If Vlad was hitting tanks, Bo was performing, Kirk and Springer were hitting, etc. that would be something like 6+ WAR added to our season right now. Outbidding the Dodgers for Teoscar would have added about 2 WAR and that's assuming he would even consider coming back after we just traded his ass out of town. Good luck prying him away from the Dodgers but that would probably be impossible. Same goes with other FAs; I know the Jays checked in on Pederson but he wanted the West Coast. And even so, we could have just had Horwitz up from the beginning and there probably wouldn't be a huge difference.
  6. He faked Devers out so bad that he bailed out of the box. I think that affected the ump's decision.
  7. Ump blew an obvious strike 3 call against Devers who then homered
  8. This has been a really good development for the franchise.
  9. If Votto is banging in AAA they can figure it out by the time he is ready. It will be close to the trade deadline so they could potentially move Kiermaier (if we are paying the salary there will be a lot of teams who would take him) or Turner (if we are paying his salary some contenders who doesn't want to give up much for a righty bat would want him). Or perhaps there will be an injury.
  10. Ok great news. Sounds like the IL is still a possibility but it's just a mild nerve issue.
  11. Not yet but it seems inevitable after leaving yesterday's game with elbow soreness. So let's say Garcia to DL, Eisert up. Then on Friday when Yariel's turn in the rotation comes up, they will need to option a reliever. We will have 4 lefties in the pen at that point. Little, Eisert, Genesis and Mayza. Genesis and Mayza have too much service time so they can't be optioned without their consent. If Eisert sucks, they could option him. If he looks good, they should DFA Genesis or Mayza. Mayza has been good in the past but he's over 32 now and is going to make 5+ mil in his final arb year next year. I'm not sure if Ross will have the courage to do the right thing though.
  12. So we have the 40-man spots after Vogelbach and Biggio were punted. The 25-man spots were quickly filled with Buffalo Boys. The 25-man spot for Eisert, I would assume, is opening up because Yimi is headed to the DL.
  13. I haven't paid any attention to Eisert before but he looks mildly interesting. 35 Ks in 22 innings as a lefty in AAA this year. His ERA stinks but that's because of his .442 BABIP. Not sure how he is racking up those Ks; it isn't because of his velo which is sits about 90-91 from the game logs I went and looked at. He'll probably get added to the 40-man since we have 2 spots after the Vogelbach and Biggio DFAs but could go back down as soon as Yariel's turn in the rotation comes up.
  14. Can't really disagree with those rankings
  15. I have my doubts but he seems to be doing okay so far.
  16. The bullpen looks UGLY right now. Late inning guys: Green Pearson Setup: Richards Little Pop Garbage: Genesis Mayza Long Reliever: Francis
  17. Of the Buffalo Boys, Barger definitely has the most tools. Elite bat speed, good raw power, huge arm, good speed. Schneider has a lot of half tools. Horwitz probably has a solid hit tool and that's it. But both of them seem to get the most out of their talent with good plate approaches and baseball moxie.
  18. Yeah Beltre is a good comp. Plus he's a one team guy, he's a short roly-poly type, he's seemingly got a pretty fun personality and he also knocked out Tim Anderson in one of the better baseball brawls you'll ever see. He'll have the stats and the Beltre-like aura to go with it.
  19. I don't know if he would need to trade Bo but for Atkins to get off most everyone's shitlist we would need to see: -Buffalo boys produce, thus showing that he can develop some homegrown talent -Other good farm news, like maybe Tidemann makes a few good starts down the stretch or Orelvis has a big debut or something -Have a good trade deadline -Core players like Vlad, Bo, etc. have big second halves -Make it past the Wild Card round, possibly would need to make the ALCS Tall task, but not impossible
  20. Getting Yariel back will help. He can be the bulk starter and Francis can be the long guy and Richards can move back to a 7th inning role.
  21. He's just trolling you. Every time you post he just ignores what you write and argues against a strawman.
  22. But I thought this team wasn't capable of advancing past the Wild Card round? So what would that matter?
  23. Boston has the above average pitching that seems to play up against us. They've been good largely because they have abandoned their fastballs. I wonder if they will still do that or if they'll go fastball heavy against us. Even so, our starting pitching has been on a roll. I like our chances to pick up another series W. I have some concerns with the bullpen though lol. It looks like dogshit without Yimi.
