  1. Not to mention that this team's insistence on carrying 8 RP and having a pretty limited backup catcher in Thole will make platooning nearly impossible. Plus Rasmus and Lind are gone. If there's a guy who can't hit lefty pitching but is worthy of a starting role otherwise...f*** it...let him play everyday and leave the mashing to Encarnacion that day.
  2. And the older, slower Reyes had 7.1 BSR in 2014 in a little over twice the PA, less than double the games. Rajai Davis, the man considered to be the dumbest baseball player in the league by some people on this board has 10.2 BSR in 2013 and in 2011 and 2012 when he was f***ing up a lot more on the base paths he still outpaced Gose's BSR in 2014. Maybe bad baserunner is overstating it a tad, but he's been underachieving for sure, for a guy supposedly fastest on the team and maybe the league. For Gose to be useful he's got to be producing like Rajai's 2013. With what people have said on this thread about being content with him as the back up - it's pretty sad that his new career expectation is now to be the new Rajai Davis.
  3. Well he is entering the age where it's time for him to put up or shut up. He's not going to get much better than whatever he does in 2015. Don't let my terminology fool you, I want the man to succeed next year.
  4. Holy s*** dude...if this front office was "the dumbest" this board wouldn't be having year-long orgasms over Pompey and Stroman...and to a lesser extent for Norris and Sanchez. AA is pretty good at some aspects of his job, the problem is he's annoyingly bad at the easy things like simple roster management...or is too lazy to do his job correctly. But yeah, I keep forgetting that you're the guy who would cum at the prospect of Toronto being hit like Hiroshima and Chernobyl combined...Blue Jays suck...Raptors suck...I haven't seen you say s*** about the Leafs but I'm 100% sure you feel the same way about them....everything about the city of Toronto sucks to you but yet you seem to pass yourself off as a Toronto sports fan by default because Montreal lost its baseball team and never had an NBA one.
  5. Relax guys we have all Spring Training to figure this out. By then we will have way more clarity if he's ready to start in April or June or 2016. Gibbons and his big mouth trying to create buzz. Who knows, AA probably slipped him a couple of extra bills to say s*** like this so the fan base can get excited over Pompey and forget all about losing Melky and not filling other holes. Maybe next thing Gibbons will say is Barreto is ready to take over 2B next year... If Pompey does take CF then having Gose in LF makes no sense to me. Gose's bat only plays well in CF and he's been pussy-farting with his career long enough. The team would be better off signing a cheap all-bat no-glove solution for LF if Pompey takes center than having Gose playing every day making the team's offense resemble a 1980's NL lineup. We should be going into the spring with the attitude that CF is Gose's to lose and if he somehow loses it then his days are numbered here.
  6. Also, don't get so offended with the likes thing. You see Spanky's thanked total? He gives them away if you sneeze and he finds it funny. Not that I don't appreciate the gesture, half of my thanked count is probably from him.
  7. Dude...no...I did not say that. Geez no wonder you get into these arguments. A GENERIC 2B will have more opportunities to capture WAR during the course of a season than a GENERIC DH purely because he's on the field. David Ortiz out-OPS'd Jonathan Lucroy in 2014 but his WAR is less than half. Comparing Goins and Lind in WAR is like comparing them in a 100 meter dash, and Goins has a 50 meter head start. It's a pointless argument.
  8. The more games Goins plays, the more WARS the Jays' fan base will have.
  9. I don't think that's the type of jinx of a guarantee that you want to be putting on this team. I think it should be something like this: If Goins starts 96 games next year, the team will have 96 losses and 96 fans left. So it really won't matter who out-WARs who next year because by then we'd all be swimming with the fishes in despair.
  10. I'm sticking my nose in an argument where it doesn't belong, but how is comparing the WAR of Goins and Lind exactly fair? Goins has the inherent advantage of being able to field as well as bat. That is Lind's own fault for being such a terrible fielder that he became a 30 yo DH...but still, this isn't the greatest of arguments to be name-calling over multiple posts in a thread that should be dedicated to AA's strange behaviour and panicking over the disaster 2015 is turning into less than a week after the 2014 World Series ended.
  11. I would love to see that happen, just to see Wilmer have to backtrack on his Estrada back-patting comments.
  12. McGowan will come back at a reduced price.
  13. Did he mention that much of those stats were compiled against the Cubs and Pirates while they weren't fielding MLB teams? Looking at his splits between NL Central rivals and everyone else, it's even more horrifying.
  14. This is one of those times where everyone on this board pretty much universally agrees. This is a bad trade. We all joined the hive today. Either: 1. Lind was given up for a maybe ok reliever. someone who could have been signed for a similar amount or less on the FA market. 2. Lind was given up for a #5 starter with maybe ok value if he performs above expectations. So basically traded away a serviceable player and made a bigger hole by plugging up an area of high depth. The only way AA can save this is if there are follow up trades that make sense, like the day they got Rasmus and started with Edwin Jackson. But my suspicion is this is his half-assed version of a salary dump after our Prez Jim Lahey met with Rogers BOD.
  15. HAHAHAHA the way things are shaping up, that money's gonna be banked to Rogers. I can just smell it. If they do trade him, they STILL won't do a damn thing (that improves the team) imo.
  16. Hi Mr. Beeston, welcome to the board.
  17. I think you have to change your screen name.
  18. Why are people "hoping" for a salary dump that makes the team worse? I hope Melky accepts the QO, Rogers announces they miss 2015 net income expectations, Rogers' stock tanks 25% and they fire AA and Beeston for failing to get the payroll down as commanded. I DO NOT hope for Buehrle to get traded, because it WILL NOT end well for us fans.
  19. Well now...don't you feel silly
  20. So Lind was traded for a terrible starter or maybe ok reliever. I hope he doesn't get pushed into the starting role just to achieve some sense of "value" for this trade. Happ is better than this guy. The offense is so torn apart right now I don't even know what to think. Bautista Encarnacion Reyes Lawrie Navarro Scrub Scrub Scrub Scrub What's most scary is that out of those 4 viable hitters at the top, they averaged 124 games last year between the 4 of them. Two of those guys are out at any given time, this lineup is the worst in the league. AA is going to have to pull off acquiring at a minimum two position players between Navarro and Lawrie.
  21. Why? Coming off an injury he'd be maybe the third or fourth SP option for this team, not suitable for an "ace" role. SP depth is one of the few true strengths of the club. While coming into the spring with 6 viable starters is not a bad thing, I'd rather have the Jays get the Chad Billingsley-equivalent of a middle infielder.
  22. People can't forget that Rogers is a publicly traded company. At the end of 2012 they were doing pretty well. Since then the past 7 quarters have been bad on cable and absolutely brutal on wireless businesses. If Rogers' forecast comes in more than $10M below EBITDA (net income) analyst projections for 2015, the stock would probably get hammered 10 or 15%. The easiest way to pick some of that up is to squeeze the baseball team's salaries. Similar stuff happened in the JPR era when Rogers was battling the debt issues. The Jays baseball decisions regarding salary and Rogers' historical stock price are highly correlated. This picture will sum this up well:
  23. Not a bad idea, as long as the team doesn't carry 8 relief pitchers.
  24. fixed Rogers doesn't have the earnings power to increase the dividend.
  25. This is my favourite move of the four fringy/injury prone/past their expiry date player acquisitions so far.
