  1. I chose infielder...but now that I had a chance to think about it, a top of the rotation starting pitcher (through FA) is what this team needs the most to win in the playoffs. My original view was I just wanted the team to make the playoffs and shoring up the infield is where I think the most improvement could come from. Now that I think the team has a decent chance to make the playoffs in its current state, winning in the playoffs is the next step. And I agree the Jays need an "ace" who can pitch in the big game especially if it comes down to a one game playoff. The caveat to this is I don't want the Jays to trade for an ace. They would have to give up too much for my liking. I like the team's chances in 2015 and 2016 with this roster. I'll like the team's chances slightly more in 2015 and a lot less in 2016 if a trade for an ace results in one of Hutchison and Stroman and one or two of Norris, Sanchez or Osuna as a starting point going the other way.
  2. I wish they had traded Estrada instead of Happ. Though this trade makes a lot of sense.
  3. They are a playoff team in April...not December...nor in March if I recall last year correctly.
  4. I'd prefer 3 points for a regulation win which is what people have talked about for years, makes total sense and is implemented in other sports which have a similar type of points system...but this is the NHL we're talking about... They should thank their lucky stars that hockey is so popular in Canada and the northern half of the US, because the NHL is a stupidly run league...and this is coming from a baseball fan who has lived through the Selig legacy of the post-steroid witch hunt where the best players of his era are practically barred from the HOF.
  5. Also gotta love the NBA...the four other teams in the Raptors division are a combined 18-52. Why can't the Jays get that type of luck?
  6. Leafs are a low-ranked playoff team in the Eastern Conference...which makes them an ok team. On a side note they have to re-do the point system and win-loss format. I get aneurysms every time I look at the standings and everyone is "over .500" except for Buffalo and Edmonton. One of the reasons why I almost exclusively watch playoff NHL now. I can't stand this win and "kinda won because we lost in OT/shootout" ********. I like it when teams try to win in the third period.
  7. Dammit! I didn't think of the PTBNL deadline.
  8. What will happen first? Jays World Series 3-peat or grass in the Dome? Seems like Beeston's been talking about both since November 1993.
  9. I can only imagine the nicknames he'll come up with for Gibbons and AA
  10. Step 1: Trade PTBNL for Fowler Step 2: Let Melky walk Step 3: Consult with Astros who they really like in the late first round in next year's next draft Step 4: PTBNL is the guy drafted with Melky's pick once they can trade him Everybody winzzzz!!!!!
  11. lol oh Moogy...or maybe another previously banned random nutjob
  12. Under this scenario I'd like to see Pompey in the OF, then maybe have EE and Bautista draw straws to see who plays 1B every day.
  13. Anyone else find it funny that with the hundreds of times Smoak and Dirks' names have been mentioned on this board they won't even record a PA with the Jays.
  14. I interpret this as a good sign. This means there is no intention to go with scrubs anywhere outside of 2B.
  15. Amazing debut post. You have a bright future here!
  16. The whole "a pillar" thing makes me lol if it were the player. Although the act if it did happen would likely end up as a horrific tragedy.
  17. -4 minutes...where is our update? What kind of internet and social media Jays board hero are you?
  18. I think the point is that the Astros will have equally little desire or use for Navarro on December 2 or on March 2. The components don't fit unless AA finds an intermediate trade.
  19. I love to see Fowler-Pompey-Reyes at 8-9-1. Or Pompey-Reyes-Fowler at 9-1-2. For a reasonable price.
  20. I agree. Another bit of drama that could have been avoided.
  21. If Colby doesn't have a job and the Jays don't have a suitable replacement, why not? Not sure if his brain works this way, but he's gotta see the team is serious about contending now. And relative to St. Louis he's had a good time here not being under too much of a microscope. If he was coming from another team for a fresh start, half the people saying no would probably say yes to taking a flier on him.
  22. Remember, it's a Braves version of a full rebuild So no Markakis for you!!!
  23. lol @ Ogando's Wikipedia entry...someone already updated it that he was non-tendered. The Jays have enough depth in their rotation where signing any one of these three guys is basically a low-risk high-reward move. At worst they have an injured pitcher that they don't need, at best a rotation candidate or good RP.
  24. Braves obviously going for the full rebuild. But their version of a full rebuild is one year at 75 wins a second at 80 wins and then back to contention so if I were a Braves fan I would trust their crazy moves this offseason.
  25. About Castro. If he can throw 100 MPH and there is a need for him in the BP, then he absolutely gets put there in 2015. The team is trying to compete and must put the best roster together possible. No point in spending too much time on development for a guy who can throw that hard. We know the majority of these flamethrowers are living on borrowed time so the Jays might as well get some MLB use out of him before he blows out his arm rather than him blowing out his arm in the minors.
