  1. In a way I hope this is true. Why? Because the only way he's getting that kind of money is if he bats .800 with 85 home runs this year and 22 WAR so he's going to be super motivated to bust his ass.
  2. I do not like this. This means that the Jays were giving up something more than just a scrub, because a minor leaguer scrub not passing a physical is easily replaced by another scrub. It also means one Jays prospect is injured.
  3. I have never had any faith in Saunders, but just because he doesn't pass a physical from the Angels doesn't mean he's dead goods. Let's at least wait to see if he plays a spring training game before writing him off completely. I am happy this trade did not go through because I didn't see any indication that it was anything other than a straight up trade Saunders for Bruce with no money involved. Adding Bruce to the payroll when this regime has been crying poor all off-season would have been rage-inducing with better options to spend to shore the bullpen or OF through free agency. And that includes not trading Revere so there'd be no hole to fill in the OF in the first place.
  4. Blair's BJMB account outed.
  5. At least his chick is hot and does housework.
  6. You could say he was lucky in 2010 and 2013. 2012 is his most realistic upside in a rebound year. 2.5 WAR. I guess there's some value of adding Bruce to this righty heavy lineup.
  7. I'd rather roll the dice on gifting Pompey 140 games than Bruce. At least with Pompey there's dice to roll. Bruce is pure snake eyes.
  8. Wow you should set up your own psychic service. You even have the # down 1-888-chowder
  9. It would be nice if this turned out to be a grand master scheme a la Rasmus. We were all confused for a few minutes as to why the Jays acquired Edwin Jackson too.
  10. Well...the one good thing with this trade is that we will find out soon enough if Atkins and Shapiro are completely bonkers or not and we will see how many people bandwagon jump to the Rays this time around. Who knows, maybe once it's all said and done we will all be happy with this deal and will praise these two as geniuses.
  11. Saunders last year was a better player than Bruce. Now THAT'S saying something!
  12. I hope not unless Jay Bruce decides to magically stop sucking this year. Replace a 5 WAR guy with a 0 WAR guy. Yeah, that'll be conducive towards building a long term winner. Better off letting Jose walk and replacing him with a minimum wage scrub than doing this.
  13. I get it...Rogers is rich. But unless Jose's bat flip caused Rogers to sell $90M more cell phones last fall, his statement isn't remotely accurate. Also, Rogers operating profit was flat last year. $5 billion...so not a poor company...but still flat. The stock market is all about growth, not necessarily your base numbers. Rogers' stock price probably has more to do with the Canadian dollar tanking than anything. Americans selling out of crappy oil sands companies but like the exchange rate so they figure they'll put it into some other Canadian company by default.
  14. I haven't had the privilege of going yet. Only MLB city within an 8 hour drive of Toronto I haven't been to yet to see a game. My pals have said I'm not missing much.
  15. I'm a summer person. The rise of any activity that implies April is around the corner, led by the start of regular season for the Blue Jays and the increase in face time of the team's media people puts me in a good mood. Ask me again in August.
  16. Cleveland destroyed Cleveland...or maybe Obama did...or Bush. Or maybe it's because LeBron is Cleveland's entire economy. The point is the fan base not being there has more to do with macro factors of a city in great decline since its baseball franchise started playing 115 years ago than the former regime leading the team to some .500 seasons in a mediocre division. The Blue Jays fan base will never be like the Indians' fan base.
  17. LOL you guys are so mean to our precious Blue Jays media representatives...
  18. Nobody cared about Yan Gomes because everyone was thinking about d'Arnaud which as outsider fans looking in, wasn't unreasonable. When Gomes was traded how were we to know that d'Arnaud would be gone weeks later too? The Jays went from catcher depth of Arencibia, d'Arnaud, Gomes and Mathis which I think we all agree was pretty damn good to Arencibia and knuckleball specialist Thole in the span of less than two months, basically gifting the starting role of catcher to Arencibia for at least the next three years. Whatever you want to say about AA, that was f***ing stupid and the worst thing he did IMO, looking at it separately from the trades that took place to get to that position.
  19. What I don't want to see is a Delgado type of situation. Or if it works out that way, at least have it happen in November, not February. I don't have any problem with Bautista getting paid market value nor the Jays' brass to do what they think will be the best to sustain long-term success. I'd just prefer everybody to maintain appearances at least until the Jays magical 2016 season is complete.
  20. Nooooooooo....I'm saying that if Shapiro and Atkins are capable at their jobs, there's no reason to think that this team will go the way of the 2015 Atlanta Braves. And if it does go that way, the only people to be blaming will be the ones staring back at them in the mirror.
  21. For a man like Jose who is supposedly of above average intelligence compared to the regular joe baseball player, there is a better way to communicate this stuff to at least maintain optics than the comments that have been attributed to him in this thread. I hope it's not a product of him being angry at or feel insulted by the new regime.
  22. Holy f*** if Shapiro can't handle the Jays financial and roster situation in 2016 and beyond and the media/fan scrutiny that comes with any mediocre performance, then maybe he shouldn't have applied for the job? No need for the apologists to start showing up now. AA inherited a team from Ricciardi/Godfrey that was destined to roam in the desert for 40 years based on his s***** draft record and decent ability to fill out a 25-man roster with not completely useless players given budget constraints around the Wells albatross contract. I'm sure Shapiro and Atkins can work with what they have, and if they can't they rightly deserve to be tarred and feathered.
  23. I don't mind him thinking like this. But if these quotes attributed to him are actually his, this is f***ing stupid to say right now. The last thing we need is a cancer type of situation for this club like in 2013. As a Jays fan, is it too hard of a request to wish for an injury-free, cohesive 2016 team that slaps each other on the butts and sings Kumbaya on route to a 100-win season and a World Series win before the question marks of 2017 start to surface?
  24. What I like about this conversation is that we seem to be leaning towards keeping a 5-man rotation despite the day off. The past three years everyone would be begging to skip the fifth starter, because the fifth starter was awful. This year the fifth starter will be the best of Chavez, Hutchison or Sanchez, and we can live with that. This rotation is not going to win the team a lot of games, but I'm optimistic it won't lose the team a lot either. Our main concern for the year is if Dickey will be a gas can for half of the season.
  25. I don't mind this idea for single game pricing. Better that the money goes to the team than to scalpers.
