    Hutchison is 25 years old. 400 MLB IP under his belt. At this point he's either an MLB pitcher or AAA fodder. I don't see where he could develop unless they have a very focused goal for him. Kinks should be sorted in out in the spring.

    I agree if he does well, the Jays can always bring him back. I have no issues with him and hope he does well. But people have to admit he was very frustrating to watch in the first half of the year. The team has a solid lead and he was pitching great after 4. Then innings 5-7 he implodes. We can all only hope that he has another Mets 2012 season!

    Whenever I have doubts about the pitching staff of this team, I just look at the 1993 starting staff. This staff is clearly better than that one: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/TOR/1993.shtml Different era in terms of respecting advanced stats, paying attention to K:BB and "pitching to the score" with Morris, but still. Seeing Guzman go 14-3 and Hentgen go 19-9 just showing up every fifth day with very pedestrian numbers gives me hope. Stroman and whoever the Jays' #2 guy ends up being should be able to do better than that at an aggregate. The other three guys were essentially #4/5 pitchers and the Jays have no shortage of that.

    Jays win 100+ games and World Series and the 2016 team goes down as the best team in the franchise's history.

    We'll go crazy when Dickey still manages to lose games by giving up 4 home runs in the 5th through 7th innings in May and June before post all star break weather conditions allow him not to suck. I'm optimistic on the rest of the rotation pulling through.

    Probably oil price rebound. Oil can't stay at $30 forever and the $CAD is highly correlated to the price of oil.

    Ok, so if Rogers goes bankrupt tomorrow, who takes over the team? Be careful what you wish for. Also I have no idea why you are complaining about not having a bona fide closer as part of your rant. This team has Osuna and Storen and failing that, Cecil. Three guys who are perfectly capable of taking over the closer role.

    Mediocre = C grade = average That's my interpretation of mediocre and of how the off-season went. My thoughts have pretty much already been stated. Love the Happ signing. Estrada's was ok and necessary. Hendriks-Chavez makes no sense considering the SP depth is a lot greater than the BP depth although the FO might not have planned it that way at the time. I do not like the Revere-Storen deal. I understand that the Jays wanted to deal from a position of "strength" (which we are much less sure of now thanks to the recent attempted OF dumpster diving), but I think they could have gotten a lesser-known, cheaper reliever and use the cash savings to add another piece. Nothing else in that list is unexpected or really noteworthy.

    I don't know why there's Bruce versus Brown comparisons. Brown = signed for nothing and no guarantee of a roster spot Bruce = something given up for him, plus salary and a guarantee of a roster spot This signing has no impact on whether the Jays continue to pursue Bruce or not. In this instance it doesn't matter who is better or who has more comeback potential. This deal with Brown has no downside. The Bruce trade could have had a lot of downside depending on how it would have turned out.

    I remember back in the day at my old job the co-workers and I would to some ass-cheap gut-churning buffets once in a while for less than $10. Pizza Hut buffet and some Chinese place in Scarborough called Superbuffet. Those were the days. So a KFC all-you-can-eat looks like s*** in comparison. Especially since I'm no fan. It would probably take me a full hour just to get through one serving of that food.

    I think another difference between then and now is the shitshow that the Expos turned into before they left. Every single star was traded...and ironically enough the only two times I remember them being buyers, Randy Johnson and the infamous Bartolo Colon haul went the other way. When Ricciardi was shedding Delgado and other stars for also-rans and Mondesi, there was legit concern the Jays were going the way of the Expos. I think there is still remnants of that. The letting go of an aging star is automatically associated with the cheapness of ownership now. Labatt's and that era will always be missed. EDIT: And that was probably a factor driving Godfrey to push Ricciardi to sign Wells at all costs. "We are not the Expos".

    Come on BigCecil, among others...I know you guys are around my age or older. So you should have been desensitized in the 1989-1990 era where the team said bye-bye to Moseby, Bell and Barfield and all they got back was an injury-prone young pitcher. Clancy and Whitt, expansion era guys were also dumped for "prospects". I was only 8 at the time so I'm not going to pretend I grew up watching them for years, but Bell was portrayed as this eras Bautista, and in many respects he was. I was sad to see my new hero go. But it barely took a year or two before I had about a dozen new players to cheer for. If Shapiro and Atkins are competent, they will have casuals forgetting about Bautista pretty quick.

    Yeah it was a bad situation. I side with Thomas on that one. He hit pretty well the year before in 155 games, about as good as you could expect from a 39 year old. He did struggle to start the next year but they barely gave him a chance.

    I think that should be the case for the vast majority of 35 year old athletes. Access to the best facilities/trainers and millions of dollars on the line for motivation.

    Delgado also had the advantage in that Twitter was still 5 years away from being invented. 90% of the clubhouse nonsense we've seen over the past 5 years seems to be created by Twitter. The other 10% was Bonafacio.

    You're probably right. Should have added assuming the CBA allows it. Although in Jose's case those clauses should definitely be a part of any deal for a team willing to make a 9-digit commitment.

    The only way I could see any team coming close to Bautista's demands is if there are massive player performance clauses in it. I think that he thinks he's not going to decline like other players. "Alright Jose, if you can OPS .900 or higher through 600+ PA as a DH in your age 40 season, we'll pay you your $30 million. If you suck ass, we're not guaranteeing you more than $10 million"

    Ugh. I wouldn't blame our normally patient mods if they decided to get a little less patient.

    I really hope this is just Peter Angelos trying to get back at the Jays. I don't want to villainize Bautista, the front office or ownership. I want them all to work as a cohesive unit to give us a productive 2016 from the team.
