  1. Is it really that hard for you to just ignore a post if it presents a trade so ludicrous that it doesn't merit a response.
  2. melky's defense isn't that bad....sure pillar would provide better defense, but his bat doesn't even come close. Melky runs funny. I think people believe he is slower than he really is. I would offer him 3 for 30 and leverage the contract EE and bats are on and the fact that he likes playing here.
  3. melky has 21 doubles, 3 triples and 11 homers....he's posted an .801 OPS. That isn't a singles hitter. He's been our most consistent hitter. Melky hasn't gone through extended slumps.
  4. todd wins this 2 to 1 in the final...book it..lol
  5. okay....jose has his work cut out for him....let's go Jose!
  6. Stanton will be fun...but jose was more than worthy of watching this time....he hit some bombs
  7. this might actually be good for bats...a little confidence...get the home run swing ready for the second half!
  8. let's flip a small piece for jon lester instead. We pay the last 5 mil of lester's contract. They can add that money to his extension in the offseason, since they seem to cheaping out on lester right now. The Jays get to stick it to the Yankees. The owner surely could get on board with that. They can get a lower level prospect and a kevin pillar type. We get 13 or 14 starts from lester.
  9. we're not getting lee and we're not trading buehrle so it really doesn't matter I suppose. The big thing is the Jays play 3 against the rangers and 4 against the sox at home post allstar followed by 3 against the Yankees, 3 against the sox and 4 against Huston. The schedule is light post allstar. I think EE, Lawrie and Lind could be back at some point in that stretch. If we could aquire a player to give the team a shot of confidence this is a stretch the Jays could go 10 and 7 or 11 and 6 in. A lot of it depends when those 3 key injuries get back. Colby's been ice cold and so has bautista been the past few games. We need those two guys to get going after the allstar game. A zobrist type could really help solidify this lineup. Ideally we would get a starter too....but you can't sit on your hands with Tanaka out. This lineup is a good one with Lawrie, EE and Lind back in it.
  10. I think pencilling in a 36 and 37 year old pitcher with injury issues as a 7 WAR pitcher is risky. Injury risks are real for Lee. He's old. Lee's upside is greater. I think Buehrle is more like a 2.5 WAR pitcher. He was a 2.2 WAR pitcher last year in a down year and will probably end with a WAR close to 3.5 this year. Buehrle comes with less injury risks.
  11. there's zero evidence Rogers won't risk more payroll. They only care about what makes financial sense. If the jays are within 3 games of a playoff game in September the rogers centre is packed. If they are 8 games out of the playoffs come September 1 Rogers centre is a ghost town. If they make the playoffs there's real tangible revenue growth for next year. The odds of the Jays making the playoffs at the beginning of the year were far less and more risky than they are right now. The fact that money wasn't available at the beginning of the season does not mean it won't be available now.
  12. what is the max payroll? The payroll to date are all sunk costs. Making the playoffs could add 10s if not 100 mil or more in revenue to the team. It's a risk reward thing at this point. The carrot of additional revenue should be enough for Rogers to risk the money when the chances are this good to make the post season.
  13. Buehrle has always outperformed his FIP and XFIP. Buehrle is no cliff lee. He's just that a 3.7ERA innings eater. You can pay more dollars for certainty. We're fortunate that Buehrle has an amazing year. He's earned every dollar he's been paid this year and we only have one to go. GM's aren't going to pay enough in prospect value to warrant us trading him. Sure the Yankees would take Buehrle on in a heart beat because dollars mean nothing to them and Buehrle is a solid pitcher....but they don't have much to offer us in return.
  14. so what exactly do you think they could get for Buehrle. You think professional GMs are going to take on a huge contract for a year and a half and pay as much as they would for an ace. Buehrle has a 2.64 and he's having an above average year, but every GM in the league will treat him like a guy who will pitch lots of innings and post a 3.7ish ERA next year. We're not getting Addison russell for Buehrle especially with his big contract.
  15. yeah..the challenge was dumb...he was out by inches...but if gibbons takes a couple seconds and the replay guys are competent he would have got the thumbs down.
  16. well...at least there's one guy who knows something about the game. Reyes has stolen runs and bases several times this year that obviously people are not remembering. If Reyes was safe by 3 inches instead of out by 3 inches would all you know it alls be up in arms saying, "what a ridiculous play. Reyes should be at first, not second right now." No risk, no reward. Sometimes you get burnt. There was nothing wrong with the process..
