  1. f*** I almost forgot what a win felt like...finally a win.
  2. yes...him bautista, EE Colby and Melky better be gone or I'm going to rage.
  3. some people enjoy life....I know it makes no sense...but what are you going to do?
  4. I'm not sure having a defeatist attitude and being down all the time is anywhere in sports psychologists handbooks on how to succeed. I'm sure no one feels worse about mistakes when they happen then the players making them. Ideally you want players learn from mistakes, but to have short memories and play with confidence. As much as Reyes smiles, you can tell his mistakes have gotten to him at times this season and he hasn't played with a lot of confidence at times. I'm quite happy to see him celebrating. If Reyes plays loose and with confidence his bat and speed will help the team. Thanks for the laugh though.
  5. why exactly would you be upset about players celebrating scoring runs....you'd rather they celebrate grounding out?
  6. all decisions will now be made with a coin flip with AA's lucky loonie.
  7. I agree, you would have had to see him pitch. Ground balls are usually a good sign. The thing about being lucky here or there, over time things tend to even out. 2 line drives, one ended up in an out, one in a single. 2 ground balls and both ended up in hits. The throwing error also played in, which had nothing to do with the pitcher. If we've learned anything from the home run derby, it's not easy to jack it out of the park. I have no doubt Sanchez will have some success as long as he throws strikes. As been mentioned a million times, he has not been able to throw strikes and one inning of throwing strikes is clearly not enough to build lots of confidence. If he goes another 20 innings and only walks 4 or 5 batters combined with the previous 20 innings of work with 5 walks you will be talking 40 innings of work with better command and have at least a foundation to build upon. However, he could walk 3 batters next time out. I'm sure after his next outing of 20 or 30 pitches we can have another lengthy meaningful chat. We've pretty much dissected this outing as much as humanly possible.
  8. well from briefly glazing over the sacrificing a virgin thread, I assumed he was younger. I guess Mr. King schooled the strawman. Sanchez will never be able to throw strikes. Samardzjia couldn't throw strikes at one point either and he turned out pretty good, but he's likely atypical.
  9. 17 of his 26 pitches were for strikes. Someone posted that he has had 5 walks in his last 20 innings which is good. Do you really believe that he can never improve? What do you think he's been doing all year and last year. He's making the adjustments to become a better player. That's what the minors are for. He's 21 years old, not 24 or 25. 21 might seem old to you, but I can assure you it's not. Next outing out he may walk 3 batters...who knows. Time will tell if he's actually improving or just having a decent stretch.
  10. whatever happened, three singles rarely result in 2 runs. 2 of the singles were ground balls that found the hole. Angrioter posted 3 hits, 2 earned runs. I thought ahh..crap...not a great outing...but when you looked I actually looked at it there were no doubles a throwing error and 2 of the 3 hits were ground balls. That's not a bad outing at all. It was an unlucky outing. If the kid throws strikes, he will be fine.
  11. I did indeed type an error...I should have typed the next batter struck out and the following one lined out. Thanks for noticing.
  12. just checked...first hit by shane victorino was a ground ball single. 2nd batter struck out. Travis shaw then had a ground ball single to left and Glenn's throwing error allowed vicotrino to score and shaw to get to third when he should have been at first. Carlos Rivero hit a line drive single and scored the runner and then the next batter struck out and the last batter struck out. There should have only been one run scored if not for Glenn's throwing error. 3 singles..2 of the ground ball variety. 17/26 were strikes, 2 ks....sounds like it really wasn't that bad of inning after all.
  13. I said you don't want them to win to overstate the point that you never post anything positive about the Jays. I've never heard a pessimist say he was a realist....lol. I get it. You're the smartest man in the room. Tell me oh wise one. Where will the Jays finish. 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th in the division.
  14. I've always stated I'm an optimist. I have no issues with self identifying my flaws. Why can't you acknowledge you're a pessimist?
  15. I think the Jays have the better team with Lawrie, EE and Lind in the lineup. If you want me to create a statically significant mathematical model to indicate what the betting odds would be that the jays outperforming the O's over the next 17 games due to an easier schedule, then you're a moron. That would take an incredible amount of time and I don't need to verify statistically what can be identified qualitatively. Sure the variance of outcomes is significant, but I'd rather our pitching face the hitters and pitchers we're facing than the steady diet of pujols, trout and Hamilton, Donaldson, samardzija, gray, felix, iwakuma..etc. If the Jays had EE, Lind and Lawrie and were healthy, I would bet large sums of money that over the upcoming 17 day stretch that the jays would have a better record than the orioles at even money. Anything could happen as this is sports, but if you continually make bets where the odds are stacked in your favour then you would make a lot of money. The reality is I would never find such odds, because we're playing s***** teams and the O's are playing good teams. As it stands, we dont' have EE, Lind and Lawrie and our likelihood of having a better record over the next 17 than the O's is probably a flip em. I posting things Jays fans can be optimistic about. The 7 games the mariners play the O's is good for the Jays. If we were facing the tigers, Orioles and mariners and A's over the next stretch I would feel sick given the status of being 4 games and 2.5 back right now. At least with the schedule we have there is room for an optimistic view that maybe our pitching can be strong and a few hitters can make some timely hits and that after this stretch we can be no worse off than we are today and we'll have the core of our team back to compete the rest of the way. You want the Jays to lose. I get it. You go to great lengths to dispel anything positive ever said about the Jays. The points I made were worth noting for those who had not looked at the schedule for the next couple weeks for both the jays and the O's.
  16. The orioles lost wieters for the year and machado missed a month...but they've been mostly healthy and they only have a 4 game lead on the jays. The Jays lost Janssen for a month and half, izzy for the year, morrow for the year, lindy for a month and a half, lawrie for a month, Colby for a month, EE for a month, cecil for 3 weeks, Reyes for 3 weeks, jose for games. We've had significant injuries...but not catastrophic like Texas. There's nothing you can do if you get too many injuries...few teams have the depth to overcome significant injuries to several major players. If our depth is so bad, how are we 2.5 games out of the wild card and 4 games out of the division lead....we're still right there.
  17. when you talk 3 game series, anything can happen, but when you start talking 17 games against quality teams vs 17 games against weaker teams it's a meaningful difference. The Jays next 17 see them play boston 7 times, Huston 4 times, the Yankees 3 times and the rangers 3 times. The Orioles square off against the angels 6 times, the mariners 7 times the A's 3 times and the Nationals one time. The 7 games against the mariners are meaningful because those are the 2 teams currently ahead of us in playoff positions so we have the opportunity to gain ground on someone every night. Then the Jays face the Orioles in a meaningful 3 game series. By that time, we should have Lawrie, EE and Lind back. There's a good chance they will all come back at various points over the next 17 games...EE probably due back the latest of the 3. We're treading water with the lineup we have and won't be able to take advantage of the weak schedule as much as we otherwise would have, but if we can go 10 and 7 we will be in good shape heading into the series against he orioles.
  18. I wish guys would stick to one account on the new forum!
  19. I'm shocked that Alex didn't pick up Frasor....he loves that guy..lol
  20. The O's start a 10 game road trip facing the A's 3 times, the angels 3 and the mariners 4 followed at home by the angels 3 and the mariners 3. That is a tough schedule. The Jays have an easy schedule and when the o's and mariners play 7 times they jays will have the opportunity to make ground every night on one playoff spot. The problem, the jays are killed by injuries. If EE Lind and lawrie were in the lineup we could make up some serious ground. We need the pitching to come through and for Colby and Jose who were cool the last little bit to get hot.
  21. they were debating the merits of a cliff lee trade yesterday on MLB radio. Clearly their is risk and upside. You negotiate the contract and the player. You're not going to take on the full contract and give quality players. If Philly eats more of the contract they get better players. A Cliff Lee trade could work out well for a team trading for him. He could return to previous glory, or he could fall off a cliff. While Lee isn't a great fit for Toronto, the Jays still should be looking to add a headley, hill, prado...etc. There should be money available at this point in the season, even if there was none at the beginning of the season.
