  1. madson is a guy I'd be interested in, but he probably gets more dollars elsewhere.
  2. that's just a losers mentality. We can't sign anyone because Boston is a way better baseball city. Toronto is a great city. Canada is a great country. Toronto sports fans can be fickle, but there were pretty insane while Price was here. We also have a stronger lineup than Boston and by all accounts Price got along with his teammates. Given some of the words shared between fans and players in Boston with Price, I don't think it's a stretch to say he would have signed in Toronto for the same or less money. Price obviously signed with Boston so the perceived conflict wasn't that big of a deal. 17 or 27 million might have been too big of a gap and he might have signed in Boston anyways, but if the Jays had offered Price the same contract, he'd be a blue Jay today. That was never going to happen though.
  3. I would trade Dickey for Shields straight up. He still struck out 9.6/9 last year. You won't beat up Martin who we are still paying a lot of money for the next few years.
  4. I think AA would have gone 7 190 or maybe even 7 200.
  5. 31% of all revenue of all teams is pooled together and divided up evenly. On top of this MLBs Central revenue fund(acquired from things like national broadcasts) is disproportionately distributed with lower revenue teams getting a bigger slice of the pie. These are all US dollars.
  6. would have rather had samardzija
  7. this isn't me suggesting we should have signed him. I wouldn't have paid that price. I understand the risk. I just think that Clemens won the cy young at what 40? Schilling had his best seasons mid 30s, same for Randy Johnson. Bartolo Colon is still effective and he's over 40 and resembles the michelin man. Price relies heavily on the fastball. He doesn't spin the ball like some pitchers. I think his command of the fastball is his key. I just think he will age well and will remain reasonably healthy. You can bump this thread in 6 years if I'm wrong and I will eat a healthy slice of humble pie.
  8. I might be in the minority, but I think David Price is going to be very effective at the age of 35 and 36.
  9. that's not entirely true. Not all the Jays revenues are in Canadian dollars.
  10. It's the best lineup in baseball period. Good for price for getting a big deal. Dude is an amazing guy.
  11. First thing that came to mind was we're dealing Dickey when I heard of this move.
  12. just what you want to hear from a lady. How was I in the sack....well you were't bad.
  13. you name 4 hitters....what about Rodriguez...he had hip surgery, missed an entire year and at the age of 40 posted a 129 OPS. Paul Molitor, Dave Winfield are a couple ex Jays who had good season after the age of 36. Bautista keeps himself in good shape and Edwin has such a good short compact swing, that I could see both aging well. I worry a bit more about Bautista coming back from injuries.
  14. to be fair, lindy was a pretty laid back guy who probably didn't have a problem with anyone....and he put up a 2.2 WAR on a 7.5 mil contract in 149 games playing everyday against righties and lefties....old Lindy had himself a nice little season....but Estrade was nails for us.
  15. 29 is not old and if you take care of your body you physical abilities at age 29 are not that different from age 26. You are also missing the offensive upside to pillar. Pillar has had no injuries to speak of. Ellsbury had injury issues.
  16. not to mention, alford, pompey, Urena, Vlad JR and a whole host of pitchers in the minors. 3 or 4 years from now at least a couple of those players might work out. Pompey or Alford could push Pillar to left or out all together.
  17. see 30% plus strike out rate and do you think he is as good defensively or as a a baserunner as Pillar. Colby aslo bounced back with a 2.8 WIN season.
  18. How can you of all people come out and say you can't rely on a below average hitting outfielder? Pillar was a 4.3 WAR player. A 4 WIN player doesn't move the needle? Osuna is 20 years old. He has three above average pitches. He could very well be moved to the rotation. Look at Pillar. He has a 13.5% stikeout rate and he swung at everything. It is remarkable how low his strikeout rate was given how swing happy he was. If he develops some plate discipline and he did get better as the season went along his offense has upside. The kid has some pop.
  19. It can be the Phillies, the Dodgers, the Angels. We were able to trade more than 60 million dollars of Vernon wells and get a player of value back in doing so. You don't think there's a team that would take on big dollars of David Price after coming top 5 in CY young voting in his age 32 season?
  20. as long as there isn't a no trade clause, what's the harm in signing him and trading him to the Yankees or sox in 2 or 3 years. You think the yanks or sox would be less inclined to pay big dollars, after Price puts up a stellar season at the age of 31 or 32, than they are now? Look at Greinke, he's going to get a big dollar multi year deal.
  21. I've never seen him play first though and that beard he's sporting is pretty cool.
  22. you want to pay lincecum 15 mil per year?...no thanks
  23. It's true the dollar hurts. I would guess they've hedged some of that currency risk on some of the existing contracts. I wish I could say that the dollar was going to rebound soon, but I doubt that will happen soon.
