  1. Drew Smyly is still available. Would be a nice MiLB pickup for some depth. A southpaw who could start or pitch out of the pen. Looks like a guy though that outperforms his FIP.
  2. Happy for him! Definitely nice to see!
  3. Some interesting names still on the FA market. Wonder if the Jays pick up someone. Grandal as a backup C would be nice. Astros just signed Rodgers to a MiLB deal. If you can sign JD Davis to a MiLB deal, why not.
  4. Should also consider the domino effect this whole Vladdy situation has. Like what would a top FA think of the way this FO handled the Vladdy situation? Would they want to sign here knowing the way this FO operates? Like there is nothing wrong in not being able to work out a deal with Vladdy. That's fine. Though then you need to look at what trade options are available if you know Vladdy isn't signing an extension. You can't just stand pat and stay in limbo, which is something this FO loves to do for some reason. Ken Rosenthal is right. At the end of the day, when it comes to big FA's or even trying to work out an extension for your star, you have to figure out eventually how to seal the deal. Something this FO has done poorly with.
  5. Not chastising the FO for not giving Vlad insane money. Instead, criticizing the timing of everything and that the Vlad situation should have been dealt with earlier. If Vlad's demands were insane at the beginning of November and the Jays couldn't negotiate a deal with him, then look to trade him,
  6. I'm okay if they don't sign Vlad to an extension, but it would have been nice not to drag it all the way to Spring Training. Instead they should have dealt with the Vlad situation earlier in the offseason. Seems like this FO was way too passive and likely missed the boat in trading Vlad for a solid package that could have helped this team in the longer term.
  7. Your second point: I think the Vlad situation definitely should have been resolved early in the offseason instead of being dragged out all the way to Spring Training. First off, a Vlad extension earlier in the offseason would have set a direction for this team and might have helped lure other top FA's who the Jays were in on. Secondly, if an extension couldn't be reached with Vladdy, then Atkins could have explored some trade options and the Jays might have been able to get a solid package in return, similar to what the Padres got for Soto last offseason. Instead, now Atkins/Shapiro are pretty much stuck in limbo with Vlad. It's likely too late now to trade him, unless it's at the trade deadline and with Vladdy being a two-month rental, you won't be getting as much. I still think the Jays could win with or without Vladdy, but it would have been nice to have that clarity earlier in the offseason and plan accordingly. Now, we might see Vlad walk at the end of the season and receive nothing of value in return.
  8. According to my sources, Vladdy, his agent, Atkins, and Shapiro are in Vegas.
  9. Kirk ain't getting $20-25M per season lol. Maybe $10-12M max.
  10. Yeah David Ortiz kept raking and hitting at an elite level even right until his last season in 2016 at the age of 40. His only down season was in 2009. Contracts were different at that time as well, but yeah he never got a super large contract like other players at the time e.g. A-Rod, Alfonso Soriano, Vernon Wells etc. Most term he got was 4 years/$52M from 2008-2011 and then moving forward just kept signing short term deals for one or two years max. Different in comparison to Vladdy since Ortiz has his breakout at the age of 27 in 2003 and still had I believe one or two years of arbitration/control still left. Crazy that Minnesota non-tendered him after the 2002 season and refused to give him the $1.2M which he got as a FA from Boston.
  11. I would save it all up for Gunnar Henderson in 2029. The Jays were finalists for Ohtani and Soto (from what we were told) so Vladdy knows the Jays have money to spend and he's going to try to get every penny he could squeeze from Rogers. You can't blame him. We saw the market crater for Alonso this offseason and heck even Bregman, so you gotta ask yourself do you really want to be paying $40+M per season for Vladdy, especially when he's in his 30's? He's a 1B/DH type of bat. Unless he hits like David Ortiz into his 30's, you really don't want to be given him a long term deal of 10+ years. The time to trade Vladdy was earlier in the offseason, especially after Soto signed, when the market was really hot. I just hope they don't let him walk for nothing.
  12. AL East is definitely going to be tougher. Give the Jays still a solid B+ offseason. Would have been epic if they could have lured one more big FA bat like Alonso or Bregman, but that's alright. Would be nice to re-sign Vladdy to an extension if both can reach a reasonable figure before ST. Locking up Vladdy as well might help lure future FA's in upcoming years as well.
  13. Agreed. I don't even bother to check this thread as much now. This thread on the old board was one of the most active threads and now it's pretty much dead.
  14. Would rather watch a game at Fenway over the Rogers Centre any day of the week!
  15. Pivetta at 4/$55M was really good. Much better than some of the other deals guys like Eovaldi and Severino signed for earlier in the offseason. Could have maybe moved Bassitt earlier on in the offseason when the price for SPs was insane, but that would have left a huge hole in the Jays rotation and it wasn't a guarantee Pivetta was going to last this long and sign for that cheap.
  16. Yeah he could potentially have a good season in Boston, taking advantage of the Green Monster and dimensions, turning it into a larger contract. Which position does he play now?
  17. Have you ever been to a game at Fenway?
  18. Iglesias likely would be the starting 3B. I mean if he comes cheap, would give him a chance and it strengthens the infield depth even more. Would prefer having Clement as a super utility guy who you find 300-400 ABs and he could start in case of an injury. If Bo gets injured or Gimenez, slide over Iglesias and have Clement start at 3B.
  19. $10M isn't bad for Kenley Jansen. He's not the same elite arm he was before, but should be able to produce around 1+ WAR and is solid trade bait at the deadline if he has a strong first half.

Yeah Bills/Ravens were the better teams in the AFC. I'm not sure the Bills would have been able to beat Philly's defense, but at least it would have been a better game.
