  1. Then why is Steamers projecting 3 WAR next season? And how then was Salty worth 3.6 WAR this past season? I'm just playing this side of the argument. I agree with you as well - Salty is not my first choice especially with the contract he'll likely demand though from the sounds of it, many posters on here are saying Salty is as bad as JPA, though sites like FanGraphs and projections from Steamer beg to differ.
  2. I like looking at projections as well, though they are not the be-all and end-all when it comes down to projecting player performance. I factor in a lot of things when making my own evaluations and projections on players.
  3. Well according to FanGraphs and Steamer, he is not JPA's twin as many posters on here are making him out to be lol.
  4. I completely agree. I think getting stronger defensively behind the plate is the main priority, even if you have to suffer with the bat. That's why I want the Jays to go after Hanigan. He'd be a cheap option and hitting him 8th or 9th really wouldn't be a problem.
  5. Not even close lol. Ruiz is far superior defensively.
  6. The one thing Salty has going for him is his age, and untapped potential. I don't think he'll hit above .270 again that's for sure. He definitely is capable of hitting between 25-30 HR's. Defensively, I'm not a huge fan as many posters on here are. Is he my first choice? Not at all, though I wouldn't be disappointed if the Jays signed him. I'd still prefer Hanigan at his cost and use that other money to improve the club in other areas.
  7. I know. I'm being sarcastic lol. Many posters on here throw around projections from Steamer as they are the be-all and end-all.
  8. But Salty is projected to post a 3 WAR next season by Steamer…And people wanted an older catcher who's 35 in Carlos Ruiz at 3 years/$26 million which many posters on here said was a bargain. And Ruiz is projected for a similar WAR as Salty next season as well. Is Steamer all of a sudden wrong?
  9. But according to FanGraphs, Salty was worth 3.6 WAR last season. And Steamer projects 3 WAR in 2014. Steamer can't be wrong!
  10. Kottaras is a backup lol. Doesn't mean the Cubs automatically now move Castillo.
  11. Hanigan will not hit .198 again lol. It's so funny how so many people get caught up with last years stats. Your acquiring a player on what he can moving forward, not what he did in the past. Even if Hanigan hit .398, I'm sure so many posters would be fapping at his name, even though I wouldn't expect a .300 average from him in the first place. Defensively, he's a solid option behind the plate, and he's a solid contact hitter who doesn't strike out often and could get on-base at a decent clip. Having hit 8th-9th isn't really that of a concern in my opinion. And for what he'll cost through trade and then ARB, it makes a lot more sense for the Jays since then they could spend that money elsewhere. I'd rather have the Jays pay Hanigan $2.5 million then pay Ruiz $8-9 million each season over the next 3 years, since that other money could be used to shore up other holes.
  12. As much as I like Colon, not a fan of dollar amount you threw out. Also, I have a feeling that his Oakland magic doesn't translate over with the Jays. He'd be making more than Bautista and EE which would be quite funny.
  13. I think Hughes is a great bargain buy, though he's probably a better fit somewhere in the NL or at least in a big ballpark like Safeco. He's very prone to the HR ball, so I think him pitching at the Rogers Centre wouldn't work all that well.
  14. I think Haren wanted to go back and pitch with a team on the west coast. Doubt he would have signed with the Jays at that cost, lets be realistic. Overall, great signing by the Dodgers. Haren pitching in that ballpark should be gold! Perfect fit for him.
  15. Yeah, I don't think Lawrie ever goes out there and produces David Wright numbers like many people think. I don't think he ever becomes a force in fantasy as in real life.
  16. LOL The league actually follows real MLB players salaries and years on their contracts. So Brown is making 0.5 M and then Arb eligible for the next 3 years after that; same with Lawrie. Morrow is making 9 million in 2014. I figure Morrow is someone who you really can't rely on, Brown is replaceable especially when the league has free agency. Lawrie can be the deal breaker (if he realizes his full potential; or if he is a bust).
  17. Off topic question: In a salary dynasty league, would you move Domonic Brown, Brett Lawrie and Brandon Morrow for Jose Fernandez?
  18. I like Nolasco, though I think he's better suited off in the NL. He's already 30 and this deal likely would take him until he's 34-35. Plus, it's not like he has been that dominant in the NL - he's been hit or miss.
  19. I'd like to see the Jays bring in Hanigan and one of Cervelli or Stewart from the Yankees. That would be a solid tandem behind the plate and likely wouldn't cost much in trade and salary.
  20. As a starting catcher? I'm actually happy about this move from the Jays perspective since that crosses out one buyer for Hanigan.
  21. Joe Smith just signed a 3 year/$15 million contract with the Angels.
  22. +1 Completely agree. I don't know why people are undervaluing Casey Janssen's trade value. He's been a rock solid late inning reliever the past 3-4 seasons, and has shown that he can be an effective closer over the past two. He's only making $4 million next season and is definitely a good trade chip at that cost. A non-closing reliever in Joe Smith just got a 3 year/$15 million deal from the Angels. That's the going rate of decent 7th-8th inning guys on the open market right now. So I'm sure someone like Janssen holds far more value and could land something better than Hanigan. Plus, people have to realize that the Reds and Yankees need to move Hanigan and Cervelli/Stewart respectively. It's not like they have an option. I don't think the costs will be that high as some people are thinking.
  23. I think you're overestimating the cost it would take to acquire those guys as well.
  24. I see Oswalt going to Oakland on a one-year deal worth $2-3 million. He'll be their version of Bartolo Colon. Book it.
  25. At least Brad Pitt took the Oakland A's to the postseason.
