  1. I don't care where he starts when the season opens…that doest make a difference. I should have reworded my post if I confused you. Right now at this time, this team should consider him as just a No. 4 or 5, nothing more (especially if they are serious about contending next season). He's not a No. 2 by any stretch of the imagination until he proves he can go out and give this team 200 innings. Morrow definitely has shown the potential to be a No. 2 starter in the past, and I've always been a huge fan. Though I don't want the Jays to solely rely on him carrying this rotation. They need to acquire one or preferably two pitchers who are "No. 2's or 3's" to slot into this rotation with Dickey, Buehrle and Morrow. If Morrow makes 30 + starts, and realizes his potential, then that would be huge next season.
  2. That's why Morrow needs to open the season as the No. 5 starter. The Jays can't rely on him being a No. 2 next season.
  3. Don't know why you mentioned me in this post, but alright.
  4. I said Colon on a one year deal worth $5 million would be a nice sign and would be worth the risk. Though if Oakland offers that same amount, what makes you think he'd choose Toronto over Oakland?
  5. I'm not comfortable in giving Colon $16 million over 2 years, that's just my opinion. He's 41 and we've seen pitchers regress at that age. He's been great for Oakland the past two seasons, though I don't think you can expect him to carry that same value moving forward.
  6. Possibly, though he's been linked with the Royals I believe over the past couple of days.
  7. I would be on board with that - instead of that guaranteed second year perhaps replacing it with a club option. I'd only go year-to-year with Colon. I'm sure Colon gets a raise from his 3 million salary last season. $5 million is pretty reasonable, though don't you think Oakland then snags him at that price? If Oakland and Toronto are both offering $5 million, I think he stays in Oakland. Likely Toronto would have to outbid any offer Colon receives from Oakland.
  8. He might, not denying that. Though the Blue Jays can't be relying on a 41-year-old pitcher to solve their pitching woes. Oakland got terrific value out of Colon these past two seasons. I'm not sure paying him $7-8 million is the smartest thing since you'd be really paying him more on what he has done the past two seasons then what he'll likely produce over the next two.
  9. He's 41-years-old? So you're expecting him to continue pitching at this level over the next two seasons, especially in the AL East? I don't care what Colon did the past 2-3 years - you pay him based on what you project from him moving forward. He's 41 and there are a lot of question marks on whether he can repeat that success over the next two seasons especially at the Rogers Centre. If the Jays are looking for a No. 2 or 3, I want one with the least question marks. I think the $7-8 million would be better spent elsewhere.
  10. He's at that age where there are more question marks with him and he can just flame out. I like Colon and how he has transformed himself over the past 2-3 years, though I don't think its rational to expect similar numbers to his 2013 season in 2014, especially with the Blue Jays. He's pitched in Oakland the past two seasons, so expecting him to pitch that well at the Rogers Centre over 15-16 starts is just unrealistic. If the Jays are going out to sign/trade for a No. 2 or No. 3, I want one with the least question marks. The Jays can't afford having Bartolo Colon just blowing up in their face, which is very possible. He's best suited for Oakland and I'm sure he stays there.
  11. The Jays have Hutch, Drabek, Nolin, Stroman, Redmond, Rogers, McGowan etc who could all step into the rotation if needed and basically provide similar value Happ would or even more. Plus I'm sure the Jays sign some arms to minor league deals with invites to ST like Marcum, Wolf etc.
  12. I liked Macier, though never understood why the Jays had to sign him for 3 years which is just absurd for a backup infielder. Players like Maicer, Punto, Nix, Aviles, etc could be had on one-year deals and can be acquired every offseason.
  13. And you think Colon will be as good as he was in 2013? Secondly, there is no chance Hudson or Kuroda sign here in Toronto. Kuroda either signs with the Yankees, goes back to Japan or retires. Tim Hudson wants to win a championship and I'm sure there are far more NL teams that he has a better chance with. If the Jays want a chance at those arms, likely have to overpay significantly and that's something I wouldn't feel comfortable in doing with pitchers who are almost touching 40.
  14. No it wouldn't. I'm sure Colon would get lit up at the Rogers Centre and in the AL East. Knowing the Jays luck, Colon wouldn't work out and he'd regress significantly. I like Colon and all, though I wouldn't feel comfortable relying on him as a No. 2 or 3 in this rotation given his age and how he can just implode at anytime.
  15. It's not going to cost something crazy like Sanchez or Stroman. The Reds have to move him since signing Pena so it's not like they have a huge upper hand in negotiations.
  16. Hanigan has Tampa Bay written all over him. This is a player I see the Rays going hard after.
  17. Hanigan isn't going to hit .198 again, lets be realistic. He's a solid contact hitter who doesn't strike out a lot and could get on-base. In 2012, he was worth 2.7 WAR in 112 games, and in 2010 worth 2.1 WAR in just 70 games. From 2010-2012, he has averaged more than 2.0 WAR per season. He'd be a huge upgrade over what the Jays have right now in JPA and Thole. The Jays could live with Hanigan's bat in the lineup hitting 8th or 9th. He'd be a great fit on this team and a huge upgrade behind the plate.
  18. There were so many posters on here against trading for Latos and Gio I remember. BTS was one of them (he hated Gio).
  19. He'd be a huge upgrade over Thole. If all he costs is a reliever like Perez or some excess BP arm, the Jays should do it!
  20. His stuff is legit. He's actually the type of NL pitcher I can see succeeding in the AL East. I'd take him over any current Jays starter right now.
  21. If the Jays do trade for Samardzija, they may ask for an extension window like they did with Dickey. If they'd be able to lock him up on a reasonable contract, I'd be open to trading for Samardzija.
  22. Burnett is staying with the Pirates or he retires. I'm not a fan of Colon to be honest, I'm sure the Jays sign him when he's about to burnout.
  23. I like Samardzija as well, though like you said the cost isn't really worth it. The Jays are better off at looking at free agency instead.
  24. ? Samardzija was great last season. 214 K's last season and is still under 30.
  25. Santos is a big Kozma fan. He can tell you how good Kozma is.
