  1. Yeah, if you asked me I'd also take Marshall's 1974 season over Kimbrel's season. Kimbrel is one dominant pitcher - no doubt. Though 200 high quality innings over 60 unhittable innings to me are more valuable.
  2. Mike Marshall 1974 season: 15-12, 2.42 ERA, 106 games, 208.1 innings, 191 hits, 9 HR, 56 BB, 143 K's to go along with 21 saves and finishing 83 games. Just absurd lol.
  3. It's kind of difficult to compare relievers over this past decade vs. the 70s and 80s, since the landscape has changed so much. Guys like Goose Gossage would come out of the bullpen and pitch 2-3 inning to notch the save. To me that's impressive since most relievers these day burn out after 30 pitches in an outing.
  4. Hurl loves relievers with SP eligibility.
  5. That was awful. I'm shocked he stayed the whole season in the closers role. You're telling me that they didn't have anyone else to try in the role lol?
  6. Thanks. I always thought of him as a starter/swing man type of pitcher. 48 games all in relief this season and he posted solid peripherals. Johnson threw 91 in 2011. Ah yes Scott Proctor in 2006, completely forgot about him.
  7. Dotel threw 97.1 innings in 2002 all in relief. Before he threw over 100 though he made some starts those seasons. Lidge also threw 94 innings in 2004 and 85 in 2003. Hardly see those IP totals from relievers these days.
  8. I know relievers back in the day would throw multiple innings easily and weren't babied. Eichhorn threw 157 innings that season haha. Who was the last reliever (making no starts) to throw 100 innings or more all in relief?
  9. Only 27 hits allowed in 62.2 innings - that's amazing. Kimbrel for sure has been in that discussion over the past 3 seasons. Gagne only lasted 3 years as an elite closer I believe, so Kimbrel has a good chance if he stays healthy to be one of the best relievers in baseball along with Rivera.
  10. I've been bored this morning, and this idea came up in my head. Who would you say? Eric Gagne in 2003? He posted a 4.4 WAR which is pretty crazy coming from a closer. According to Fangraphs, Gagne's 2003 season was more valuable than EE in 2012 and 2013. Just can't fathom it. Was Gagne's 2003 season the best we've ever seen from a reliever? Thoughts...
  11. The other night, I was watching the 2013 Home Opener on MLBTV, and it was hilarious. I suggest everyone watch like the first 30-45 mins. All the optimism and buzz generated for the season. Buck and Pat's commentary were hilarious. Just watching it knowing the season was a disaster made it entertaining.
  12. This is the blurb: "Are the Toronto Blue Jays one of the teams that will be making a big play for free agent pitcher Masahiro Tanaka? Back in September, general manager Alex Anthopoulus all but said as much prior to the team's 2013 finale. As Tom Maloney of the Globe and Mail wrote back then, "Prior to the game, Anthopoulos reasserted the goal of strengthening the rotation with a front-of-the-line pitcher via trade or free agency. He followed in a television broadcast by acknowledging the club will bid for Masahiro Tanaka, a 24-year-old free agent from Japan’s Pacific League." Flash forward to the present, and the pursuit of Tanaka is something that Richard Griffin of the Toronto Star thinks is essential for Anthopoulus's future with the team. "In Anthopoulos's three seasons as GM since transforming Ricciardi's 80-82 team of 2009 into a faux-contender at 85-77 in 2010, (he) has constructed teams that have posted win totals of 81, 73 and 74. He needs a winning season in 2014 or he will likely be fired."
  13. Yeah, would have loved Fernandez, or Cole in the first round. Hopefully d'Arnaud stays healthy and reaches his potential. I'm happy with Singleton, though Puig taken right after ahhhh!!!!! Should have taken Puig there - foolish me. I love my Arenado pick in the third round and Davidson in the 4th round for me was solid as well. Paxton looks decent in the 5th, though would have rather taken Ventura or even Stroman for sure.
  14. If Koji was a lot younger - he'd likely be my clear cut No. 2 behind Kimbrel. Like you said, his age is a concern - though he can pitch. One of my favourites.
  15. My top 5 would likely be Kimbrel, Jansen, Holland, Chapman and Rosenthal. Even Koji or Nathan would be tough to leave out. Regardless, to each's own I suppose lol.
  16. Yeah, Romo's slight decline this season worries me, so I'd probably prefer Robertson. I'd still take Rosenthal over him however. Shocked Grilli, Farquhar and Delabar were mentioned as better relievers than Roberston though.
  17. Meh, I'd take Robertson over Grilli, Melancon, Herrera, Farquhar and Delabar. I would have a tough time deciding between Romo and Rosenthal vs. Robertson, though I'd likely take Romo (due to experience and excellent BB rates) and Rosenthal (5 years younger, 100 + K's this past season) over Robertson. So with that being the case, I'd likely have Robertson somewhere near the back end of my top 10 list of relievers.
  18. I like DrDinger's view more than Steamer or Oliver on that one. I'd take Jansen over Robertson easily.
  19. I'd take Kenley over Robertson any day for sure. Jansen is two years younger and has been Craig Kimbrel 1A over the past two seasons.
  20. Kimbrel Holland Jansen Chapman Nathan Uehera Rosenthal After Kimbrel, Holland, Jansen and Chapman (those are my top 4 for sure), there could be cases made for everyone after. I definitely consider Robertson an elite reliever - likely a Top 10 guy, though he would be a borderline Top 5 guy in my books. I'd likely take him over Nathan and Uehera since he's younger, though over Rosenthal I'd have to think long and hard about.
  21. Completely agreed. Don't think another rotation matches that top 4. Maybe the Giants if they had the old version of Tim Lincecum, though off the top of my head I can't think of anything else.
  22. If the Jays can't get a Rasmus extension then, I agree he needs to be moved. Homer Bailey would be the ideal target!
  23. 100% agreed. His bat is best suited in the No. 1 or 2 spot in a lineup. I think No. 2 is ideal!
  24. Maybe Choo can teach JPA to learn how to take a walk. Ah that's hopeless to teach JPA, even for Choo.
