I'm looking to add one more top starting pitcher before the season begins if possible. Howie Kendrick, Victor Martinez, Tex, Victorino, Soriano, OTB. Also could include a pitcher like Turner, Hughes or Peralta in any deal if a team needs a starter back.
Yup, sign a Mark Ellis, or trade for someone like Ackeley or Espinosa would have been smart moves. Also, signing a guy like Capuano now would be a terrific bargain; or even a guy like Floyd or Baker earlier this offseason. Lastly, they failed getting a RHB who could platoon with Lind and someone who could play a position - Ruggiano would have been a perfect fit (can play all 3 outfield positions and has crushed lefties throughout his career).
Yup. Only way this team is better than next season…well here are some things:
-Jose Bautista returns to his 2010/2011 form
-Reyes plays 150-160 games
-Lawrie breakout
-Morrow makes 30 starts and pitches in top form
-Dickey returns to his 2012 form
-Stroman gives the Jays a Sonny Gray type season
-Adam Lind remembers to hit like in 2009 again!
-Rasmus doesn't regress after his 2013 season
-Melky plays like he did in 2012
-Navarro repeats 2013 success
-BP stays in top form again
Basically have to be really optimistic and a lot of things, if not everything has to go right for them to contend in 2014
Agreed. And there were many 2B available this offseason especially through trade. Cheap guys that likely wouldn't cost that much such as Espinosa, Franklin, Ackeley etc. Drew is still a FA as well.
True, but I cringe seeing Happ and Rogers in the rotation come Opening Day, when there were so many affordable pitchers available this offseason who would have been huge improvements over those two guys.
I have no desire to go to the Home Opener this season and sit with all those jerks and phoney baseball fans. It makes me want to throw up.
Looking forward to catching the game with Spanky, Gibbers, Vik, Hurl on the Saturday or Sunday!
It's been a failure of an offseason with this team. They didn't even go out and add guys that would have came cheap which is so frustrating. Why not trade for Espinosa or Ackely, when you'd be able to get them for close to 50 cents on the dollar? Second base is going to be a disaster this season. They didn't even strengthen their bench this offseason and never found a platoon partner with Lind.
I really couldn't care less about the Blue Jays this season. I'm looking forward to baseball in general! To be honest, since I have MLBTV, I watch more out of market games than I do Jays games. And as much I love going to baseball games, I really don't have any desire to watch games at the Rogers Centre after visiting ballparks like Fenway, Yankee Stadium, Citi Field, Wrigley, Great American, Citizen Bank etc. I'll go to a couple of games this season (the one with guys like Hurl, Spanky, Gibbers at the beginning of the season) and likely one or two in June/July if there's a particular team or players/pitchers I want to see but I won't be going out of my way in years past to catch a game every series or week like I used to.
Thanks. Yeah I really like how my lineup looks heading into this season - really excited landing Freeman and interested to see what Myers & Profar do over a full season. I'm hoping to trade one or two of my bats for a MLB pitcher or two which I think I'll be able to pull off come Opening Day.
Forgot about listing Billingsley as one of my cuts. I did say however I'd call up Arenado and place him on my 20 man roster due to those reasons, so he should be apart of my 20-man roster, not Bills.
Yeah pretty disappointing. I'm sure AA was thinking of getting one of those guys at like 2/$24 or something like that, which is how cheap he really is when it comes to FA's it seems.
Santana is still available, and his market is likely very limited. Perhaps the Mariners could be interested. Though yeah, I won't get my hopes up with this Jays team.
My probable drops are the following:
Gordan Beckham, Luke Gregerson, Cameron Maybin, Brandon McCarthy, Junichi Tazawa, Mike Dunn, Darin Ruf, Kevin Gregg, Mo and Doc.
McCarthy is being traded to KingKat for the 84th pick and he gets back my 109th.
Also calling up Nolan Arenado since he has more than 500 PA.
So my final 20 look like this:
1) Avisail Garcia
2) Alfonso Soriano
3) Freddie Freeman
4) Howie Kendrick
5) Ian Kennedy
6) Jacob Turner
7) Jayson Werth
8) Jhoulys Chacin
9) Nolan Arenado
10 Jurickson Profar
11) Mark Teixeira
12) Tony Cingrani
13) Phil Hughes
14) Shane Victorino
15) Shelby Miller
16) Troy Tulowitzki
17) Víctor Martínez
18) Wil Myers
19) Wily Peralta
20) Yan Gomes
Here's my team:
C Yan Gomes
1B Freddie Freeman
2B Howie Kendrick
3B Nolan Arenado
SS Troy Tulowitzki
OF Jayson Werth
OF Shane Victorino
CF Wil Myers
DH Mark Texiera
BN Avisail Garcia
BN Alfonso Soriano
BN Victor Martinez
BN Jurickson Profar
SP Shelby Miller
SP Tony Cingrani
SP Ian Kennedy
SP Jhoulys Chacin
SP Phil Hughes
SP Wily Peralta
SP Jacob Turner
Kev, can I text you my drop list from up north? The names I mentioned above along with Doc and Mo obviously, and Gregg could be added to that list as well haha.
McCarthy is being traded to KingKat. He's posting it up on the board, and I confirm and accept the deal.
Gordan Beckham, Luke Gregerson, Cameron Maybin, Brandon McCarthy, Junichi Tazawa, Mike Dunn, Darin Ruf available for a draft pick.
Also, looking to move some players like Soriano, Victorino, Werth, V-Mart, Tex, Kendrick for some pitching.
I may be moving Chase Utley instead - I'd rather have Zobrist as my 2B anyways this season. If I wasn't contending, I'd likely do something around what you proposed.
