You can make the case Berrios and Gausman are borderline #2's, but I consider them more to be mid-rotation arms right now and moving forward at this stage in their careers. Berrios has outperformed his FIP and low K rates, Gausman has been like Jekyll and Hyde this season and Bassitt has huge home/road splits.
When I think of a #2, I think of someone like AJ Burnett behind Roy Halladay.
Not bashing what Berrios, Gausman and Bassitt have done this season. They've all been rock solid, providing innings and all have pitched well. Nothing wrong with them in the rotation at all. If the Jays could add a top of the rotation arm at the deadline or in the offseason, don't mind having Berrios, Gausman and Bassitt following them. Having a #1 with a bunch of #3's filling out the rotation is fine.
Also, hope Manoah comes back strong and maybe Yesavage makes his MLB debut later on in August/September as well.
