  1. What does a Skubal contract look like?
  2. If the Jays could take one of the games against Rodon or Fried, I like their chances at winning 3 of 4.
  3. Skubal becomes a free agent after the 2026 season. Would be a perfect target if the Jays want to open up their pocketbooks for him!
  4. Yeah, he has one more year left of control and then he becomes a FA. Nice option to have as a #5 starter for sure!
  5. Definitely got to love what Lauer has done so far. He's been a reliable arm and possibly might be room for a bit more. Kind of reminds me of Ted Lilly. Having Lauer as your No. 5 starter moving forward if he keeps this up would be swell. He's shown he's capable of putting together a 2 WAR season and maybe there's the possibility you can squeeze a 2023/2024 Kikuchi type of season out of him down the road.
  6. Grant this past weekend after the Jays win 2 of 3 against the Red Sox:
  7. You can make the case Berrios and Gausman are borderline #2's, but I consider them more to be mid-rotation arms right now and moving forward at this stage in their careers. Berrios has outperformed his FIP and low K rates, Gausman has been like Jekyll and Hyde this season and Bassitt has huge home/road splits. When I think of a #2, I think of someone like AJ Burnett behind Roy Halladay. Not bashing what Berrios, Gausman and Bassitt have done this season. They've all been rock solid, providing innings and all have pitched well. Nothing wrong with them in the rotation at all. If the Jays could add a top of the rotation arm at the deadline or in the offseason, don't mind having Berrios, Gausman and Bassitt following them. Having a #1 with a bunch of #3's filling out the rotation is fine. Also, hope Manoah comes back strong and maybe Yesavage makes his MLB debut later on in August/September as well.
  8. Bassitt has also been way better at home (2.60 ERA) vs. on the road (6.38 ERA). Huge contrast. Berrios, Gausman and Bassitt are pretty much a bunch of No. 3 starters at this point. Nothing wrong with that, though the rotation could use a No. 1 starter.

    I'm not a Leafs fan. I'm a Panthers fan.

Nah, just pointing out how most Leafs fans are still delusional about their team and are now telling themselves "oh we at least took Florida to 7 games" makes them feel better and now is used as a free pass to explain their disappointing Playoffs. You just proved my point!

Whatever makes you feel better at night
  12. Trade for someone like Jake Junis or Steven Matz. Both have shown to be effective in long relief roles/spot starters. Also, even in an emergency they can be used in a high leverage spot if the team is desperate and short arms.
  13. It's called a forum for discussion. Said it would be nice if either were available. You be real man! You should start offering up suggestions and adding to discussion rather than your typical three-four word answers/responses in most threads!
  14. Package starts with Arjun Nimmala and Trey Yesavage I would imagine if the Jays don't trade anyone off their MLB roster. Barger would interest them as well, but that creates another hole in the Jays lineup after. Pirates definitely would like to get their hands on both a high upside bat and arm. Skenes has 4 years left before he hits free agency. Pirates likely asking for a haul if they moved him.
  15. Rangers (38-41) likely not making the Postseason, though deGrom has a full no trade clause. They probably would love to unload the remaining years and money left on his contract if they could. As for the Cardinals (43-36), they weren't expected to be competing this season, but here we are. If they keep this up after the All-Star Break, they likely will be buyers. If the Cardinals wanted to retool for next season, Gray could bring in some nice pieces if he waived his no-trade clause. There have been rumours before about the Cardinals wanting to trade Gray, and even Gray being unhappy about the Cardinals rebuild after he signed that 3 year/$75M deal.
  16. Yeah Cards have actually been quite decent this season. With deGrom, his high AAV would be a concern, given how injury prone he is, though I believe he just has two years remaining after this season. So nothing crippling long term and Jays will have money off the books next offseason anyways. He's been real dominant so far this season. If I'm Texas, I look to move that contract. Having him and Scherzer in the same rotation would be super cool.
  17. Pirates are an awful organization and it wouldn't surprise me if they do move him in the next year or so. Crazy to think it could come as early as this trade deadline. Skenes probably wants out of Pittsburgh anyways.
  18. Jacob deGrom or Sonny Gray would be perfect targets as top of the rotation arms. If they would waive their no-trade clauses though!
  19. Yeah getting those guys back definitely will be welcomed additions. The one glaring hole is the top of the rotation. Pretty much Berrios, Gausman and Bassitt are all No. 3 starters right now. Going to be tough however since there aren't really many options available other than Freddy Peralta. Other guys like Alcantara, Kelly, and Gallen come with question marks.
  20. McLain and Steer have started to come around with the bats. Encarnacion still shaking off some rust from his long layoff. Enjoy Petco Park! One of my favourite ballparks and right in the Gaslamp Quarter which is a really cool area! A lot of away teams stay at the Omni right next door. Back in 2015, saw Mike Matheny on the bar patio with his laptop and bumped into Mark Reynolds at a Starbucks haha.
  21. Wasn't one of the Raptors strengths in 2019 the depth they had? Their second unit was one of the best in the game. Yes they had a superstar in Kawhi, but a lot of their role players played important roles. As well, defensively the team was much superior to the previous DeRozan/Lowry teams.
  22. You seem like in a pissy mood today. A lot could happen from now until these guys are activated. Injuries, setbacks in rehabs etc. You can't just say "oh we're getting Varsho, Santander, Mad Max, and Yimi back, so problem solved!" Roster still needs improvements even with those guys back.
  23. You can't just expect Scherzer, Santander, Varsho and Yimi to be the missing pieces which take this team to the next level. As well, from now and until then anything can happen - injuries to players/pitchers on the current roster, or possibly one of those guys above have a set back in their rehab or don't come back strong. Regardless, the Jays will have to make trades before the deadline to make improvements to the main roster. Nice getting back some players and arms though.
