  1. Dodgers would be a great fit.
  2. Could dangle some guys like Maybin, Upton, Puig etc.

You still had Leafs fans paying big $ to watch a losing hockey team all these years. Just saying.

Yup, with professional sports teams Montreal fans will only go and support their teams if they're winning. If its a losing team, nobody will go.

    Maybe tickets are really overpriced?

I don't either, though I think it probably means more in hockey then it does in baseball. As for a team being terrible, I was using the Oilers as an example since they have been terrible for years even with all the elite young talent they drafted. Leafs are still a couple of years away from being a legit Stanley Cup contender, though their success this season I think is more of a positive long term than negative.

If you live in Alberta and from the sounds of it you probably follow more hockey then me, so thanks for that perspective. Mostly out here from the media or just with casual hockey talk it always sounded like Edmonton was poorly ran and intentionally tanked for all those years (I probably exaggerated on the 4-5 year thing). Hall hasn't really become a cornerstone player (even with New Jersey), same with Eberle and Nugent-Hopkins. They're nice secondary pieces IMO, though not elite superstars that they were touted as. They're still young, so won't write them off completely. Hope the Oilers don't mess with the McDavid years, as they did with Hall.

Trade JV + for Cousins problem solved!

Agreed. Masai Ujiri seems like he'll get it done. Did the same with DeRozan last offseason and he realized how important that winning culture they have built over the last 3 seasons is. Lowry + DeRozan both play and feed off each other well together, which is always never that easy when dealing with two star players on the same team. The Raps likely have to move Carroll I think next offseason. Ross & Powell are good enough. JV is still pretty cheap and unless they bring in someone like Cousins, he needs to stick around.

They needed to get a top 3 pick in order to draft a franchise player like a Crosby, McDavid, Kane, Stamkos etc. to build around, so I'm glad they tanked last season. They weren't getting anywhere just being a mediocre team in the middle of the pack. It looks like they have an elite young player in Matthews, along with some other solid young pieces like Marner and Nylander and I could go on. The team was brutal anyways so it wasn't worth it to management adding extra pieces that would have helped in the short term. At least there has been a winning culture with the team this season and it definitely benefits Matthews, Marner, Nylander & others. The losing culture on the Oilers for the last 4-5 years never helped Hall, Eberle, Nugent-Hopkins etc. Hopefully they don't screw around with McDavid & company now.

Creating a winning attitude on a young team is important agreed. If you end up like Oilers of the last 4-5 years in always tanking & hoping to land a top draft pick, you'll never win and that will become the culture inside that dressing room. The Leafs are a fun team to watch, so would be nice to see them sneak in.

Raps give him a max contract? You would think it's a no brainer.

Giants won't be that easy, though I still favour the Packs in that matchup at Lambo. Better than going into Seattle next week for sure.

Do the Leafs have a chance at making the playoffs?
  18. Send me a PM. Could be interested to something similar that you floated around for Smith earlier in the season.
  19. Todd had to donate to his 104th ranked prospect.
  20. He would be a great fit in Toronto. Doubt the Yankees trade him though to a division rival.
  21. I don't see the Jays being in a rush to lock anyone up right at this moment. Perhaps after 2017 you'll start hearing conversations about Stroman, Sanchez, Travis and Osuna depending on the years they have.
  22. That start Sanchez made against Boston at the end of the season was the best I ever saw him. Kid just flat out dominated that outing. People shouldn't underestimate Liriano. He could put together a big season with Martin behind the plate and in a contract year there is extra motivation for him especially since it could be the last big contract he gets.
  23. My Christmas Eve tradition every year: watching Die Hard at midnight with a nice glass of scotch!
  24. Shopping on Christmas Eve usually isn't that bad. The LCBO today probably will be crazy still though. Yesterday was probably the craziest day at the malls and at grocery stores. I did all my Christmas shopping online and avoided the hassle of going to malls and stores. Amazon is perfect. And most of the other retailers like the Bay, Sport Chek, Best Buy etc. offer free shipping as well. Did all LCBO shopping earlier this week late afternoon and wasn't busy.
